The trick I've found with the clutch is to not flip it like a switch but move it through until it's fully engaged. Kind of like a stick shift car. I don't have to crank up the RPMs as long as I follow through.
My belts do need replaced though.
Curious to see your feelings on it vs the toro.
I was just telling John I would repair the 180 for him when I come down to Utah next spring. I love my JD 220C I only wish the reel to bedknife adjustments had the notch system like toro. There may not be a lot of videos on the 180 out there but the 180, 220, & 260 A, B & C are pretty much the same with a few minor changes.
Now that you have the JD greens mower we're gonna need to see a showdown between the greensmaster and the JD
