  • In the premier episode of "Fading West Behind-the-Scenes" featuring the San Diego-based rock band Switchfoot, Tim and Jon Foreman highlight how the band got started and the inspiration for the "Fading West" album and documentary. They describe the huge creative endeavor that consisted of writing a new album while on their 2012 World Tour filming a movie about their surf adventures. Lucky for them, their first stops are Australia and New Zealand where they hook up with 3-time World Champion, and fellow musician, Tom Curren to explore and surf New Zealand. Part 1 of 4 part series.

    About "Fading West" the movie:
Inspired by such films as Rattle and Hum and Endless Summer, Fading West follows Grammy-winning alternative-rock band Switchfoot as they travel the globe in search of new musical inspiration and perfect waves. Directed by Matt Katsolis and filmed during Switchfoot's 2012 World Tour, Fading West charts the creation of the San Diego-based fivesome's upcoming ninth album in its earliest and most unpredictable stages. As the band visits legendary surf breaks in Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and Bali, brothers Jon and Tim Foreman breathe fresh life into their songwriting and sound by harnessing the spirit of their stunning surroundings and mining new emotional depths. Part rock documentary, part surf film, and part travelogue, Fading West offers rare glimpses of the longtime surfers on their boards and in the waves, captures the frenetic energy of their live shows, and in the end portrays a journey both epic and intimate.

Interesting, the song playing during the titles was an alternate version of "Who We Are". Jon's "1, 2, 3, 4, 5," are sung a half-beat early on this version, in time with the drums rather than after.

At 4:48, about rewinding the clock,... it's a matter of culture.
California can't get back to that because of the cut throat many-multi-cultural social environment. Usually, the more homogeneous the population is, the more peaceful the society. And yet there's so much call for multi-culturalism/co-existence/accelerated changes and such. For more peace, simplify.
Take the essence of what I'm saying, and there are always exceptions.
