I like the speech she gives to the mini maid. The girl calls Revy out for being such a monster, practically a walking corpse and Revy instantly tries to claim it as a title.
Another part of that speech that I liked is how Fabiola calls Rock out for being a monster not too unlike her. How she "doesn't see him" as the same man that Revy talks about. But of course this is more touching on Rock's corruption as the series progressed. Everyone who originally knew Rock has a difficult time seeing him as going dark, but Fabiola sees how Rock is manipulating everyone.
I think what is happening here is that Rei Hiroe is losing control of his creation. He wants to put Revy in her place, but she won't fit. Hiroe failed because Revy never had an off ramp from he life of "dirty air". Revy, can't, no one can, just click their heels and become some goody two shoes "citizen".
I do really enjoy this series. Really, if I can talk from a general perspective, your videos helped me to appreciate Black Lagoon on a whole new level, thanks. However, I want to say that the term badass can be interpreted in many ways. I think the definition you are fighting against is one that focuses on the physical sense of a person being badass, but I believe many people and characters are badass because of specific hard decisions they make, accomplishments they have made, over coming adversity, or growth. My point is, they may not be "badass," but they can certainly can be very impressive and respectable for specific reasons.
Yes, in American vernacular "badass" simply means "don't fuck with them" , and by that meaning, Revy, Roberta, and Balalaika are all definitely badASS. BTW, "villain" once upon a time meant some Good Man Jack who lived in a village.
I'm not as retarded as Rock. I would have seen the signs, anyone would. I'm pretty sure all of us would have tried to save Revy even if she would try to kill us.
At the end of the most recent arc. Rock is talking to Benny, and Benny asks if he thinks hes like a superman, and rock says hes more like a lex luthor. So rock really views himself as the moral dark mastermind rather than the fighter still.
The only problem is that this series will never end... it's pretty frustrating watching this great manga/anime characters and having to wait like 30 years for the story to stop.
He is talking what she feels deep down inside. It's not like Bruce Wayne isn't deep down still the boy in the alley watching his parents get shot and carries it to the point you could call it being broken and doing what he does to battle the feeling of helplesness. You see, it's just analysing a character deeper down than what you see on the surface level. I don't think he means what he said about Revy that it automatically negates her more outside persona. Still,I don't share totally same view as this video essey (like her doing some good things just so Rock would save her like she would be manipulating him) but the show isn't clearly trying to portray Revy without any deeper inside world. She is badass, she is morally bankcrupt and she is clearly lost.
Batman doesn’t kill people and devalue human life because he hates himself and how unfair life is. He defends the innocent so no one has to suffer as he has, and even spares his villains because he believed they have suffered too, and should be given another chance.
Batman didn't take easier way out, he decided to defend people to prevent them from suffering in the way he had to, that was the right decision, Revy took the easier way out and constantly try to justify the horrible actions she does by how unfair the world is, which is quite frankly, very immature, both are dramatically different characters.

The scene in blood trail is revys wake up call when the maid schools her about how she’s chose to be a wild dog and how similar they are but how different they became, she really hits a wall trying to justify herself unlike when she tries it on rock a few times (except for when he snaps in that one argument and tells her to get over herself)

These videos are fantastic! I love how well you articulate your thoughts on all these characters and their relationships. Black Lagoon is by far the deepest anime I've seen in regards to character complexity and development. It's so damn interesting to watch. When I first saw the show I rated it one of my top 5 favorite amine, but as the years went by and I got a little older it climbed into number 1. I found myself re-watching it more and more thanks to all the subtext and intricate characters. Every time I watched I found myself peeling off a new layer about the stories of all the individuals involved. Now that I've found your videos, it shines even more light from just hearing another angle and opinion from someone who loves the show just as much as I do. Keep up the good work my dude. Have a like and a new sub! :)
Your so right about trauma and her past. Just listening "don't look behind" (the ending) and you can anderstand how deep it is. And i don't want to be edgy but i feel that bro :(
I think she loves rock but has emotional trauma. But he won't leave and go back home so she's stuck protecting him. She likes doing what she's doing, but needs to compromise with him because he won't be with her.
Maybe it's different in Australia, but in American street vernacular, "badass" simply means - don't mess with them. In that sense, Revy ( two hands ) is badass.
Why is it that even when I was first watching this show all I ever wanted to do was hug Revy and tell her that everything will be fine... even if it would probably end up with me getting shot by her, a lot.
Regardless of how she became who she is, she is, for all intends and purposes, pretty evil. Taking children as hostages and sadistically torturing people fits my definition of evil.
He has a ton of Rock content else where. Maybe try this one: ua-cam.com/video/lbykMJzTtcg/v-deo.html&. This series is specifically about arguing against the notion that Black Lagoon has Badass female characters, which Rock does not fall into. I think he is making an Eda one after this series though things can change so many he is going to make another Rock video after this. :)
Kyle Entertainment ok I was just wondering if you had any more to say about rock in a video just about him and thank you for letting me know I just wish 😭rock and revy would kiss or bang or both already I see why Dutch named him rock because he’s as dense as a rock that he doesn’t see revy likes him and everybody knows it Dutch and Benny knows it balalaika knows it eda knows it even the freaking bartender knows it like wtf😂
Kyle Entertainment and revy is even walking around pretty much naked around rock as well seriously rock makes me so mad in the series from how dense he is 😂
After watching the first video and now this one I've got a pretty decent idea of what you are judging the title badass as, but it's still vague to me as to what a badass is to you.
Not trying to go into fan fiction realms but i wonder what the outcome would be if she had a child. Would she want them to live the childhood she couldn’t have or would she treat them the same way she was treated by her father?
Since you commented this, I've been thinking about it a lot, and I think that could be the perfect ending. Revy leaves the life finally for her child with Rock and they go back to Japan, and have a big goodbye with Benny and Dutch.
Kyle Entertainment the only problem with that however is rock has made it pretty clear he doesn’t want to go back to his normal life. I think revy would take the opportunity, I’m not sure about rock though.
do you think revy believes she is superior to everyone else because she thinks "shes been through it all"and she separates herself from other women that chase attention ,like she said in the sub. Or do you believe that she thinks the community of ruanapur is the true world without all the fake people as everyone is not afraid to display who they truly are. Also , say if revy was to run away with rock to wherever (lets say japan) do you even think she could blend in and become civilised after living her whole life like a savage whos constantly hunting. I feel like everyone who is in ruanapur belongs there and its not really a choice. Garcia and company left ruanapur ,whilst rock got stuck there , this kinda makes me think that even though rock isnt a killer he still belongs there because he either 1:was destined to save someone or 2: society just didnt have a place for him and he knew it.
Changing ones life is a matter of choice. If Revy did had a new life like in Japan, adapting to a calm and peaceful lifestyle is something Revy will have a hard time doing because of the savagery and massacre life she’s accustomed to. Would you rather live a comfortable, but sinful life in a place like Runapur or being uncomfortable in a urban or rural, but peaceful place?
His Society in Osaka rejected him. Declared him "Legally DEAD". Asahi Co and his Boss Sold off him off to the Yakuza and claimed that him being Presumed Dead would bring Honor to Asahi, so when the Washime Clan tried to brainwash him into becoming an Informant, he refused to play Ball, so they hired Lagoon, to KILL HIM. Revy was hired to Assassinate him, but thanks to Lagoon's Chief James "Dutch" Washington Calling it off knowing Washime would NEVER call him on his bluff on whether or not Lagoon finished the job, to Rebecca's complete surprise, Dutch not only tells her the Hit has been canceled, but also that "You're Bunking with Rokuro, He'll be Sleeping in your Bunker Room with You. You two Lovebirds will be sharing the same Bed" She immediately responds with "What The Fuck? Are you Crazy Dutch? Why The Fuck are you bunking this Jap Businessman with me? What if we end up Fucking?" Dutch replies: "Well if you Lay Rock, that has Nothing to do with me. If it happens. It HAPPENS.". Rokuro Okajima himself doesn't even Realize how LUCKY he is. He has Tons of Allies from Ronapour, and could Strode into Tokyo with Ronapour's most TWO Dangerous Females: Russian Mafia MILF Empress Sofiya "Balalaika" Varghev and AWOL CIA Assassin Rebecca "Revy" Lee aka "Two Hands" with them BOTH arm and arm with Rock and Asahi could send a Yakuza goon after him, but they would BOTH take care of him. Revy and Balalaika aren't just his Allies, they're his Bodyguards and FWBs, whilelist Balalaika is Rokuro's Mistress and Revy's his Fuckbuddy.
She's wild, broken, complex and still badass. You make really good points but your titles are clickbaits XD I am genuinely curious what your definition of badass actually is!
So, I remember seeing Black Lagoon as your no.1 anime, and I decided to check it out. I have watched both seasons, but I still don't see how you find it to be so good. The transitions in scenes, SOME of the dialogue and the fight scenes are really bad. Don't forget the fucking pervy shots in some episodes ugh. But, I really liked the mature type of theme in this show, and almost all of the characters are very interesting (especially Revy, Rock and Dutch). The show is fucking hilarious sometimes with revy and chinglish's one liners. But some of the arcs in this show... man, they're so bad, seemingly pointless. Even some of the potentially best arcs seem rushed. So, yeah, kind of disappointed, but it's still good. I'll read the manga though, maybe it's better Edit: also that fucking submarine speech revy gave was spot on. Hope there are more scenes with the same quality.
2:23 You actually defaulted to _Rowling_ to go after Revvy... Fuck am I even kidding? _of course_ you did! The other half of your cliché little roast is just looking down on her for not trying harder to play into the bullshit that _left_ her to that backstory!
I completely disagree. Just because someone has some crippling character flaws and weaknesses, that doesn’t make them not bad ass. They are just flawed, like most ppl. She survived stuff others did not and got skills and abilities outside the norm as a result. She also got illness and regret. But it’s a more bad ass choice than some of the other options she had at that point. But, further, she does still retain those few good aspects you pointed out…which is also bad ass considering just how far she’s fallen. Balalaika calls her out specifically for her seeming intention to change. Balalaika wouldn’t have bothered to tear her down and hurt her like that if it did not exist. Is she weak? Yes. But I think anyone who would do such immoral things is inherently weak. Including Rock. But that does not mean that she’s not bad ass in other ways. She’s not cool because of her weakness. She’s not cool because of her bad ass abilities. She’s a weak bad ass. That’s perfectly fine. She’s not me dimensional, & I think that most ppl who watch the series would agree with you that she is also weak in many ways. To claim that someone has to be some paragon of virtue & moral fortitude would be to write off most bad ass characters as not bad ass because they are weak. Including Batman, Deadpool, The Punisher, Goku, etc. Flawed bad asses are literally the bread and butter of bad asses. TLDR: You are right in every point, except her not being a bad ass. She still is, even with her crippling trauma & character flaws. IMO. Good video though, as it will highlight her flaws to ppl who don’t get it. Great job!
7:48 I don't understand why you cant appreciate both aspects of her character. In fact most "badass" characters, if not all, have some emotional depth to them that would make them not badass by your logic.
I am in fact going to make a video about my Top 10 characters in Media, they both are on the list but I'm not sure if either of them are in the Top 5, Asuka from Evangelion is ahead of both of them...
3 videos complaining over when people say bad ass in terms of the action scenes while assuming that when people say she's bad ass they're ignoring all the character depth also acting like what people define as bad ass isn't subjective as all heck. lmao
he’s just highlighting their backstory. it’s very informational for those who he thinks doesn’t know anything about the character but I’ll agree he is making a grand assumption
Meh, let's face it, people only think the woman of BL are "badass" because of the way they are designed... if Revi would look and act like, say, Charlize Theron in Monster (which would be far more likely for a character like her), people would see and judge her very differently...

I'm lucky I changed as much as I did. But if I were ever to run into her I either run or try my hand at a conversation
Beautiful video!!
Personally, it was after knowing her faults, and her past that makes her cool and badass to me.
Maybe it's different in Australia, but in American street vernacular, "badass" simply means - don't mess with them. In that sense, Revy ( two hands ) is badass.
Another great video.
2:26 that is Gandalf though
Great video!
The best dub I ever had, super fascinating!
Top notch content
well done
I love this video
Well done sir
i reallyy lovee thaaat japans revy and rock moments
black lagoon is my fav anime, please keep making more commentary on this!!!
After you do the video on Roberta can you do a video about rock
He has a ton of Rock content else where. Maybe try this one: ua-cam.com/video/lbykMJzTtcg/v-deo.html&. This series is specifically about arguing against the notion that Black Lagoon has Badass female characters, which Rock does not fall into. I think he is making an Eda one after this series though things can change so many he is going to make another Rock video after this. :)
I mean the entire relationship video is about Rock. I don't really have anything else to say about him...
Kyle Entertainment and revy is even walking around pretty much naked around rock as well seriously rock makes me so mad in the series from how dense he is 😂
Nah. She's a badass but she's....that to.
My only question is where can I watch this whole series in English??
Please😅
There's also Netflix (the UK version) where I watched it
What was that intro song?
Darude Sandstorm
watching these videos made me watch this anime that I use to ignore. It's now my favorite anime.
Besides looting corpses is all you really do in RPG video games
After watching the first video and now this one I've got a pretty decent idea of what you are judging the title badass as, but it's still vague to me as to what a badass is to you.
Kickass video man!!
Not trying to go into fan fiction realms but i wonder what the outcome would be if she had a child. Would she want them to live the childhood she couldn’t have or would she treat them the same way she was treated by her father?
In what scenario? If children come out of nowhere in the current state of manga she probably just tell them to fuck off.
Can Giray İçel say she and rock are drunk and do the deed, she’d probably just abort it but who knows.
On yeah I already thought up a son for them with a backstory of being a Mile Tyson like boxer
I see revy ending up dead at the end of the series
great video, king
Song?
So... what means badass? I think u forgot the point
do you think revy believes she is superior to everyone else because she thinks "shes been through it all"and she separates herself from other women that chase attention ,like she said in the sub.
@@Tornado1994 yh lol i started reading the manga a bit ago. i dont think Revy's just his fuck buddy lol, Would be nice tho if it wasn't soo awkward.
I'll read the manga though, maybe it's better
Edit: also that fucking submarine speech revy gave was spot on. Hope there are more scenes with the same quality.
It's really nice video I like it
2:23 You actually defaulted to _Rowling_ to go after Revvy...
Fuck am I even kidding? _of course_ you did! The other half of your cliché little roast is just looking down on her for not trying harder to play into the bullshit that _left_ her to that backstory!
Revy's my favorite anime character of all time too😉
I completely disagree.
You don't know what you're talking about.
My friend asked me to sub u, Hi
One day you will be forced to make a video of the best character in all media. Will you be able to choose Casca over Revy?
I am in fact going to make a video about my Top 10 characters in Media, they both are on the list but I'm not sure if either of them are in the Top 5, Asuka from Evangelion is ahead of both of them...
@@KyleEntertainment Sounds like choosing between your children. For my top 5 I can't choose an order.
Now why i cant have a mommy revy or balalaika? GOD WHY
idc, theyre hot so theyre badass
Hope she sees this bro
3 videos complaining over when people say bad ass in terms of the action scenes while assuming that when people say she's bad ass they're ignoring all the character depth
also acting like what people define as bad ass isn't subjective as all heck.
lmao
he’s just highlighting their backstory. it’s very informational for those who he thinks doesn’t know anything about the character but I’ll agree he is making a grand assumption
@@okay2037 Nah i get the explaining part, it's still just dumb as fuck.
Meh, let's face it, people only think the woman of BL are "badass" because of the way they are designed... if Revi would look and act like, say, Charlize Theron in Monster (which would be far more likely for a character like her), people would see and judge her very differently...
It's interesting that you say Charlize Theron, as she has a lot of similar trauma to Revy.
Song?
Them Them - James Blake?
