There is Heart shape water melon in Higo region as well, this square one is going quite a long time though. Round one is cheap and sweet. Kyusyu Island Kumamoto prefucture is famous for Suika. In summer Suika is everywhere in supermarkets. 😊❤🇯🇵 John, chec it up for the Heart shape Suika as well ❤❤This shape. 😂

Way back in 2000, I was preparing to take the test for the license of manufacturing, transportation and storage of black powder and explosives and join the National Organization. Studied for months but never followed through with it due to 911 and other unfortunate circumstances round that time.

I also remember tasting those square watermelons and they do NOT taste very good. So they are only bought for decoration & bragging rights. Someone should make some plastic ones for decorating the tokonomas.
The Square Watermelons are very epic, but unfortunately buying something to sit as a display piece that only last for a very short period is not a great use of money, unless of course money is no object. It would be in their best interest for the future of these to find a way to sweeten them up so they could be consumed.

It’s not ripe, it takes like - a bitter cucumber. Because it’s cut unripe, it lasts for 6 months as a display! So cool. A waste to eat it.
