ZAAF: Made in Africa - Full Behind the Scenes Documentary
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Our crew climbed an active volcano, camped for days without electricity, and yet we somehow managed to photograph an advertising campaign in one of the hottest places on Earth- the Danakil Desert of Northern Ethiopia. This project for ZAAF Collection will go down as one of my top 5 favorite photoshoots of all time- a special project for both the overall vision as well as the journey creating it.
The documentary above is a raw look into the journey as filmed by the our local crew- both the grueling aspects as well as the camaraderie among our team that kept positive spirits during the entire journey. The full photo series can be seen on my blog here:

As a photographer this was kinda... religious to me. Fashion photography with a soul - I don't recall ever having seen that. Loved seeing this project from behind the camera but also snippets from the cardrives and the dancing. So amazing. Thank you for sharing this.
AGREEED

Your photography is amazing. I wonder why you have so few subscribers. This particular photoshoot is my favorite.
He has a few subscribers because he IS a photographer, not a UA-camr (or gear reviewer). I guess 🙄
Definitely check out his other works. Truly wonderful
@@main_game exactly... unlike this peter mckinnon guy that just a gear junkie...
Wow! Just recently came across your work and I absolutely love it. BUT THIS was so damn good! Very inspiring all the way around. The decision to not shoot the decaying car and "cliche" ," poverty" scene was dope! Thats making a difference. Bravo
Amazing video! I had to watch it twice. The male model could easily be a super model in the states; very photogenic. The women were awesome too, with some powerful poses. Well done!
I've been waiting for a long long time to see your video!
Thank you for sharing
20:53 Just wow. An
d the driver is in the side mirror. This campaign from start to finish is absolutely insane. 🙌🏼👏🏼🤘🏼
As a photographer this video really got me inspired loved it , I have been in ethiopia as a kid I know this country as a lot to offer other than poverty that other media decided to show. I like the respect of the photographer to not shoot what it seen negative. Nice work.
You are amazing photographer and human being. Very creative and highly inspiration. Bravo
Love your work Joey, this shoot was amazing. I also love the work you do in Africa, keep up the great work.
half of me thinks this is genius, the other thinks you are crazy for taking such dangerous risks! but the images and the results really are just wonderful. Thanks for doing this.
Great behind the scene film making with good visuals and sound !
I have watched this three times and I would still watch it again and again. Outstanding everything, congratulations to the whole crew, the models, the drivers, post-production, and Jonas, thanks for sharing this beautiful amazing work.
Wow! Great video ... very interesting BTS! And some lovely result!
I have a playlist titled ‘must see’ that doesn’t get populated often. This film made it in without a second thought. Brilliant.
I just wish these social platforms actually rewarded high-quality content. This deserves a million views.
Oh my Gawd, Joey! Beautiful country, gorgeous models, elegant clothes, phenomenal skills, and camera equipment that most of us can't even afford to look at in a showroom. You are my hero!
Please keep making these videos.
Not to mention the six extremely jealous people who tearfully gave this video a thumbs down.
Great story. Great shoot. Beware of those women. Their eyes, their eyes, they look deep, deep into your soul.
hiring a person with such portfolio is a good enough marketing choice for the fashion brand, even if there were no other reasons to feel exceptionally proud; respect for the brand's choice, and for the concept of the shoot
Duuuuuuude. Every time a still came up I just smiled. The locations, the wardrobe, the product, the models, the light. Incredible.
Epic adventure, Epic results! You're a creative maestro Joey L 🙌🏻
Wow... I really enjoyed watching the whole thing. Thanks for sharing!
Finally...something on the Tube that has real, authentic value. Where have you been hiding Joey? It’s been so long since you posted a video. Thank you for this gem. 😊👌🏾
Very impressive, Joey L. Love the BTS, loved the photos! keep`em coming;)
Joey your channel is an underrated one by the content you post you should have much more audience. Thanks for sharing, keep shooting 👍
Brian Tolentino you can be successful in photography without being in UA-cam but the effort for making such a video is big and is good to see the recognization for that, isn’t it? Not as an expectation but as a piece of good work being recognized 👍
Absolutely stunning and epic. Beautiful country, beautiful people, beautiful styling, beautiful products, beautiful images. Thank you for sharing this.
I don't normally comment on UA-cam, but man... this is the exact level of motivation I needed right now! This whole concept and how you executed it is beyond beautiful, the photos are really pieces of art. Great, great job!!
This was so beautiful to watch. I had tears in my eyes! I know how much work this was! such an inspiration! so beautiful and bright! well done to the entire team.
You actually won my heart by the detailing. you are amazing brov... your new biggest fan from Nigeria
I'm in LOVE with the results, but also Joey, the people, the crew, the models, the locations, the collection. EVERYTHING about this video is absolutely breathtaking!
THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
Joey, I as a Black Man in America, I know that your a Famous and talented Photographer. I went into watching this thinking that ok another white guy on his explore Africa notch in the belt type shoot. To my surprise viewing this I see that your a GIFTED photographer. What I mean by Gifted, is that I felt that you were NOT a typical white guy on this shoot simply to make money from a gig or to get a I been there done that type notch on your belt, but you were a person loving and respecting people and their culture, interested in capturing a fantastic experience with them. That takes a Special type person to capture the essence of others while also experiencing and understanding their life. Overall I truly felt that you genuinely care about the people and not only the job that needed to get done. It's rare to see that attribute from upscale photographers, especially when dealing with people of color. Thank you and I'm totally a supporter of your Journey. You have inspired me to dig deeper when looking to create and to totally seek to shoot in a total exploratory creative and artistic photography fashion. Most of all also to respect all people and their existence in this world. Thanks Again Joey L for this incredible lesson - CJ tha Photographer instagram.com/cj_video_and_photography/?hl=en
What an awesome way to document parts of Ethiopia in an advertising campaign. I loved the shoot, the models and how natural it all looked. Great way to showcase the merchandise in its native environment. The models were beautiful and it just looked amazing. Thanks for sharing

Joey, if I start talking about the wonderful images you make, there is no stopping me. That’s not why I’m here commenting. The respect which you treat the models and crew with, and the camaraderie you develop on the locations with people from different cultures, I would like you to know, is a joy to watch. Stay awesome! Nothing but the best of wishes to you!!
You are a Legend Joey! keep up the good inspiring work!

I was enthralled the entire video, feeling like I was with you on this challenging journey. Awesome images captured, and the video itself was amazing. The models were beautiful and the finished work showed off the products so well. And yes, it gives the world a different view of Ethiopia, one that the rest of world is not likely aware of.

When a short film about fashion can make your heart be filled with the joy of exploring, collaborating and discovering beyond expectations you've done an awesome job! Total respect on how you capture a piece of cultural heritage, with the grandiose landscape and the people's intimacy. Mind blown, great work from the brand, the models, and the photography and production team. Damn, even the guard looked like he's been modeling his whole life!

I love the video. The models were naturally beautiful, the mood in the pictures is a mix of mystery and romanticism, for us who grew up in Europe. They bring out what we want Africa to be, part of the original garden of Eden ...
everything that went into this. all the hard work, the ethics and morals and the fact that it brought everyone together strangers or not was amazing !
JOEY!!!! Let me tell you, I was beaming throughout the entire video. And then I watched it again. The teamwork, camaraderie, imagery and story; everything was just sooo spectacular.
