      I’m so glad that you said what you said about the Gotoh 1996t, as I also think it’s a better tremolo than a Floyd Rose. I have the Gotoh on 7 of my guitars.

    The gigbag situation definitely warrants attention in the demo. That's a move that should give Jackson a black eye. Even when other brands don't include a hardshell, they make sure to ship with a durable, padded gigbag or a softshell.

    I have worked on about 7 Jacksons under the $800 level. They have all had fret issues. The hardware is consistently good (the FR1000s that came on my Jacksons have been better than other brands) the necks, electronics, fit and finish is all good. But I always have to check fret level and nibs. The worst was the low end RR. I had a set of SD Black Winters and other upgraded electronics to get install. Fret level was terrible; and the ends of the frets had not been smoothed. I did the install and a full setup. I also had to install cavity shielding. Once that was done, it is a fabulous guitar.

    I have a Jackson Pro Soloist SL2Q that I picked up because I didn't have a Floyd Rose. I was really impressed with the guitar as soon as I got it. Fantastic feeling oiled neck-thru, great fret finishing, Duncan Distos sound full and thick without too much of the harsher modern tone that I don't really like. (I prefer the tone of the PAF clone Duncans in my Heritage over anything else) It's exactly what I wanted for an 80s divebombing metal rig.

I think the pickup is just to close to the bridge. But the examples in this video look like they've changed it. Im seeing a bit more space there i think. I've played Jacksons across different price points that were all over the place in quality, so I completely understand someone being soured on their guitars. The only 8 I own is a Jackson with a killswitch, and if it were 2-300 bucks cheaper I'd have thought it was a good buy, but this thing has iffy electronics and the killswitch is a button that doesn't really react how I'd like it to, and I've played others for perspective. The playability is very good, I just don't think a $900 guitar (circa 2018) should need work to be better with those features. I don't know about their more recent lineup, and I've played Jacksons that slay, they're just still an avoid for me when I've never had a problem with any Ibanez I've ever bought, and I've heard anecdotes of Jacksons that costed what my Strandberg did that also had issues.
    The takeaway is I wouldn't write them off, but I'm not likely to buy one anytime soon.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but the Jackson Virtuoso and the Charvel you showed during the first unboxing, are they not technically real "super strats"? How similar are Charvels and those Jacksons to fender Strats. I feel like fender gets the best bodies and then Jackson and Charvel get the leftovers and the rest are used by Squire. Not slamming Squire because I have a Squire PJ bass. Just saying.

    • @pauln6803
      @pauln6803 Рік тому

      ?
      USA Fender and Jackson will be using the same wood suppliers along with storage since they are now based in the same factory.
      Some of the Charvel range and the Jackson Virtuoso appear to be using the exact same Dinky/Soloist outline.
      I'm not sure which idiot decided to confuse things further by coming up with the silly "Virtuoso" name for what is already a Jackson Dinky. (Soloist has neck through construction and Dinky is bolt on).
      Apparently Charvel has a slightly different neck profile to Jackson these days, although they share similar measurements on paper.
      Starting way back in the mid 1980's, around the time Grover Jackson sold a big chunk of his stake in the company, they decided that the Charvel brand would move to Japanese production the "Model" series would be identified by numbers, whereas Jackson was still essentially a USA custom shop and the guitars would have the names.
      It appears they stuck with a similar approach with the resurrection of the Charvel brand.
      I have no idea which specific Asian factories are contracted for the various non American made Fender inc. brands so I wouldn't comment on Squire Vs Jackson.

    I may be in the minority these days, but I just do not get the modern day obsession with stainless steel frets. I have 25 year old Ibanez guitars, a 10 year old Caparison, 20 year old LTDs etc with nickel frets that have held up extremely well, and there's no tonal difference, so what is the big deal? I mean I guess if you use only one guitar, and you play it 10 hours a day, maybe nickel will need refretting after awhile.
    Just so far from a make or break spec, for me.

    The gold sparkle looks fantastic, but it's close to 2 grand, so a hard pass for me. I just bought some guitars that were under 400 bucks, and they're flawless, so why on Earth would I spend 2 grand? Don't come at me with the fake "inflation" that's strangely leading to record profits, there's more good quality budget brands out there than ever right now.
