Good parenting and good sense never goes out of style.
The cop was racially profiling him, he thought something sketchy was going on but had no reason to pull him over so he used the air freshener as an excuse
The cop was definitely racially profiling. He saw a young black man in a nice car and found an excuse to pull him over and start the harassment. If it was really about the air freshener, he would've mentioned it in the warning. In the case of being white and getting pulled over, it's basically still racial profiling. It's class profiling of people living and operating in the poorer areas; who else is in the poorer areas?? Most of the cities minorities. Everything has evolved into a war on the lower classes but race plays a big part in that.

DevilBeneathMyFeet, ok I’ll roll with you on this... regardless of who you are, to be safe, comply and cooperate... but what are your feelings about the officer, why he was stopped and the way the cop acted...
@DevilBeneathMyFeet DevilBeneathMyFeet Erm sorry, I really don't believe a white person would have to be so extra vigilant at every move to avoid being shot in a simple traffic stop. Also, I highly doubt the way this poor fellow is being questioned and wrongly accused has nothing to do with the colour of his skin (and male gender). Having said that, I may be wrong as I am not from the US. You saying "kinda supposed to that" may well be true for everyone. I am aware that, in contrast to EU countries e.g., the police in the US tend to randomly shoot people by accident regularly and that apparently it is totally normal for you to have to be super subservient and careful when an officer thinks he is "investigating" serious offenses such as air fresheners. Having to announce every move ("I am reaching for the glove box") for fear of losing your life has nothing to do with "showing respect". Respect should be mutual, police officers should be equally respecting the citizens they are allegedly serving. (PS. Not to say all cops are bad but there are bad ones, this one here being a case in point. Also the power-fear-gun dynamics in the US that causes everyone to be extra alert and ready shoot at any time are very bizarre from an outsider perspective)
Short version: I strongly believe this was racial profiling but even if it wasn't it would still be really fucked up because it means that to you it is normal to expect a bullet at every encounter with the police due to what they might consider a "lack of respect" or misunderstandings.

@V J yep, sounded like that cop was jonesing. He needed a fix. "Hey man you got a joint? you sure you ain't got a joint? I mean I ain't looking for a joint, but hey I wouldn't mind having a joint right about now. you sure you ain't got a joint." RIDICULOUS!
@Reluctant Human ????
In all seriousness, I spoke to a highway patrolman once and I asked what the most common car he pulled over was. He told me most of the time Chryslers are pulled over for speeding and are the most common car to have contraband in them. I didn't know what to make of that.
Chryslers are popular with African Americans
I love how the ego is so high it is still called a warning even though he literally did nothing wrong
My thoughts exactly
Although seemingly petty, the freshener as an obstruction is old-hat. I've been cited, and searched, for that... and I'm a clean-cut white guy.
@@owenwhitman6616 ikr, my thoughts are It's because he's well dressed, drives a Chrysler 300 (to me a European this would be considered a high end car) and has an air freshener, while being black, this was definitely about race probably thought he was a dealer
@@owenwhitman6616 I'm a blonde white girl and so have I. It's not ALWAYS about race, that is an actual law, a kinda stupid one but a law, and it's an old one. The lawyer saying he's never heard of anyone getting pulled over for that is so full of it or was born yesterday.
But all the weed crap was pushing it
@@preggpop3722 The issue isn't about the law - the officer's behavior and choice to repeatedly ask about marijuana is the issue here, which is clearly motivated by race. Not everything is about race, but this was. The air freshener thing is a law, but you're missing the point severely.
“We are not looking for a joint “ but yet he asked over 10 times 😂
Ivan A Right!? “If you have a joint...but we’re not looking for a joint.” What’s that supposed to mean?
Breana Bell I’m confused on that too, like it honestly made no sense.
I live where weeds decriminalized and they’ll still tear your car apart and give you a ticket. They’re looking for anything to stick you with
Please_Consume_Irresponsibly I agree . I live in California and they still make a big deal
Goin Somewhere ll haha I agree
This is shameful. And this kid is one of the most polished young men I’ve ever seen. Calm cool and collected even through all of that cops bad intentions!
Polished, respectful and admirable! You seriously do not find this level of respect on traffic stops.
I hate cops
sadly he was wrong about that air freshener blocks the view and is a legal reason to nail you. thats black privillege break law and complain about the cops.
Doctor McGoveran no it’s not illegal. No it does not block the view. It’s literally made to hang from the mirror butthole.
@@bruhnah5183 tell that to the legislature, of south dakota they make a lot of money at the sturges rally for stopping people with air freshners. what a polished illiterate, can't read the law to make sure, and so sure they cops are trying to get him he doesn't even consider sueing them for making up a law.rgen he drives off so he can get stopped again? they would not stop him unless they were sure it was illegal.
wow what wise parent this man has got . if you don't want your traffic stop to end in your death do exactly what this man did
Your parents did a wonderful job of raising you. This is how parents raise a wonderful young man. God bless you.
If more parents raised their kids like this, we would have less police shootings. But listen to me when I say this cop was 100% in the wrong and this man handled it perfectly.
diva70smusic Mmm,and the police officer was just doing his duty,huh..But he’s just a good ole boy for following massa’s orders, yeah?
Jenae Lake I RATHER FOLLOW ORDERS THAN BE SIX FEET DEEP JS😩🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

@@cameronwest9745 I think all can agree that this officer was wrong regardless of his own personal agenda or that of his department. The takeaways in this scenario were how calm and STILL respectful this young man was; how he refused to be baited; and he listened to his parent's advice. Good parenting and good sense never goes out of style.
This man has a damn good heart. He was respectful and this cop didn’t deserve an oz of it.
Lol @ oz. I see what you did there.
@@KtotheG long live the green!
@@Jrue61 Also fighting amongst each other instead of standing together and putting an end to it. There is true power within all our numbers united.
Modustollens1 so what
@Modustollens1 The reason why empires rise only to be made to fall again and again.... History repeats because the behavior and habits continue within society. It's like a bad idea that everyone forgets we've tried and every time it arises we dive nose first right back into it.
yep, nice car, black, racial profiling, now time for civil rights violation suit, on the cop
The majority of motorists hang air fresheners from the mirror inside their vehicles and especially taxi drivers. After watching this video I hope that he's no longer a cop.
Police: Know why i pulled you over
Me: no
Police: your not wearing a seatbelt
Me: bro im walking
Police: have any drugs on you....
Lmfaooooo
Yep!!
Underrated
Basically
This man did the right thing, never give consent to any search.
The cop telling him to relax while also telling him he thinks he's hiding something, you know he was looking for a reason.
his finger was itching
How can he relax when he doesn't know if he is gonna get shot?
The cop was fishing. Never help with their fishing expedition.
...he's trying to agitate this kid...we know what happens next.
Well Benjamin Taylor, I'll give you another time this happened! In Chicago Illinois I was pulled over a few years ago for having an air freshener tree hanging in my rear view mirror. This was on my way home after work! Well I beat the case In court but didn't have the money to get my car out of the impound, so I lost my job after taking endless ubers back and forth trying to figure out a solution. Long story short I was fired for being tardy multiple times, then basically had nothing no car, no job, no more money and now 😢 I'm basically sleeping on a friend's coach homeless. Thanks Officer's I'm sure Chicago is so much safer now!
"Can i get it from the glove box?" "Can I unfasten my seat belt?" This is so crazy and heart breaking. The poor man knows he's in risk of getting shot with one "wrong" move. Can't believe he stayed so calm and polite about the whole thing. :(
for real
If you react wrong, they blame it on you.
