What began as Mrs. Geetha Shivakumar’s home cooking initiative 23 years ago to bridge with farmers and bring a seasonal produce to Bengaluru’s consumers in a myriad range of savoury and sweet delicacies is now a culinary institution called the Avarebele Mela. Farmers congregate from Magadi, Karnataka bringing the pick of their crops and the cooks from Shree Vasavi Condiments cook up a host of preparations, each one featuring the avarebele. I was recently invited to open this festival with a host of other dignitaries including Mrs. Sudha Murthy, Sihi Kahi Chandru Sir and others. Hope you enjoy this vlog account of my experience there. The mela runs through 9th January 2023 at National College Grounds, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru.
