John MacArthur - Daniel 9 (interpreting Bible prophecy literally)

  • Let's go to Daniel 9 and let's look at the 70 weeks of Daniel. Of course a very important prophecy, Daniel 9:24. Now put on your thinking caps. Verse 24 says this, and here incidentally friends two marvelous things. We could just spend weeks on this prophecy alone, but two things I want you to note. This prophecy is a classic prophecy and one that everybody ought to understand because it defends the literal interpretation of prophecy. It's a great support for a literal view. You know there always people who want to explain all the prophecies away sort of mephorically or figuratively, but this is very literal. Secondly it's important because it's the chronology of the history of Israel. Verse 24, "Seventy weeks," now that's clear, "are determined upon thy people," who would that be? Israel and that's Daniel's people, "upon thy holy city." What would that be? Jerusalem. "to finish the transgression, to make an end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness," what would that be? That would be the kingdom, wouldn't it? Sure. Now watch, "to seal up the vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy," who would that be? Crowning the Messiah. Now watch, he says seventy weeks of history are determined upon Israel until everything ends and the kingdom comes with Messiah reigning. That's what the verse says. It's got to be a final thing because everything is a final. Finish the transgression, make and end of sins, seal up the vision and prophecy, bring in everlasting righteousness, anoint the most holy. Boy that's final stuff isn't it? The end, the finish, the seal, seal it up, close it off, that's the way it is. All right now.
Seventy weeks are determined in the history of Israel until the kingdom begins. That's an important prophecy, folks. That's very important. You say well spread it out a little bit so I can get it. All right, I will. Listen. The seventy weeks are weeks of years. The term weeks literally means just a regular week, but is used from time to time in the Hebrew to refer to periods of seven, and here it obviously it refers to periods of seven years. Now watch. Seventy times seven years, rather than seven days would be one week, it's a week of years. So, seventy times seven is 490 years are determined upon Israel's history. You say you mean it says there it's going to be 490 years of Israel's history? If we could find out when it began we'd know when the kingdom was going to come. Exactly. That kind of gets exciting.
Now biblical years are years of 360 days, not 365 but 360. We know this by comparing three different passages in the book of Genesis. And as we compare them and the annotations that are given we find out that the Old Testament calendar counting was based on a 360-day year. And you're saying to yourself well tell us when it began so we know when it ends. All right. Verse 25 tells you. "No therefore," I don't want you to be ignorant, "and understand it begins from the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem." That's when it began. You say do we know when that was? Absolutely, that date is set in history. The date? March 14, 445 B.C. Artaxerxes gave the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem. That date is a known date. And I'll tell you something fascinating. You start on March 14, 445 B.C. now let's look at verse 25 and it says, "From the going forth of that commandment unto the Messiah, the prince, this is the Messiah as he's presented as prince and king, "shall be seven weeks and three score and two weeks, which adds up to how many? 69. Now watch. So you've still got an extra seven years hanging on, right? All right. From the decree of Artaxerxes to Messiah, the Prince, will be what amounts to 483 years. You subtract 7 from 490 because there's one week left out, 69 weeks.
You want to hear something thrilling? Sir Robert Anderson took the number of days involved started on March 14th445 B.C. and added exactly the amount of days and came to the date April 6, 32 A.D. And according to Sir Robert Anderson, who had done almost all of the historical work in this, that is the very day Jesus rode into Jerusalem and announced Himself as king. You say what's the significance of that. The significance of it number one is God is right on the dime. Number two it supports the fact that prophecy is to be taken literally. You see what I'm saying. That is a literal prophecy. When people come to the Bible and want to mush up all the prophecy into figures they are violating a principle that Daniel will adhere to, a literal interpretation. Now that's obvious. Right on the day He rode into the city Messiah, the Prince. On that very day, you want to hear something exciting? On that very day that Jesus rode into that city I believe that He knew He was fulfilling that. You say, boy God had to do some kind of arranging to bring that one off. That's no problem for God. Details, details

There is one problem with MacArthur's "literal" interpretation. The angel Gabriel said the prophecy would last for 490 years. The angel never mentioned a gap of almost 2,000 years. The gap is a manmade addition, not found in scripture.
One of Dispensationalism's most glaring problems is the claim to take a "literal" interpretation of scripture and then do the exact opposite. Listed below are a few of the most obvious examples.
Adding a gap to Daniel chapter 9, not mentioned by the angel Gabriel.
Stating that Matthew chapter 24 was written to the Jews when the text clearly states Christ was talking to his Apostles, who he knew would be the leaders of His Church.
Ignoring Paul's warning in 2nd Thess. chapter 2, verses 1-4.
Ignoring Paul's clear statements about the difference between Israel of the Flesh and Israel of the Promise in Romans 9, 10, and 11.
Changing the "so" of Romans 11:26 into an adverb of time instead of an adverb of manner.
Producing a pretrib rapture by claiming that 1st Thess. chapter 4 is not related to Matthew chapter 24.
Producing two separate kingdoms, the Church in heaven, and Israel on earth.
Claiming that God offered the kingdom to the Jews, but they rejected it. What would have happened if they had accepted the kingdom?
Claiming the last trumpet in scripture is not the last trumpet.
Turning the word dispensation into a time period instead of the act of administering. A pharmacy dispenses medicine. The Apostle Paul was dispensing the Gospel.

That year 445 BC, was the second decree by Artaxerxes. When the Angel Gabriel told Daniel in verse 25, "from the going forth of the commandment to restore and rebuilt Jerusalem ", Gabriel was referring to the first command and decree by Artaxerxes Longimanus in 457 BC. The seventy weeks or 490 years was a period allotted for the Jewish people to make a change. Their history as God's special people was dotted with apostasy and rebellion. God planted them like a tree expecting them to bear fruits, but God find none. Isa.5:4-7, Luke 13:7-9. And God is about to removed from them the scepter of the kingdom of grace . " Therefore I say unto you , the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." Matt. 22:43. At the last week of that seventy weeks , Jesus finally left the Temple, saying " your house is left unto you desolate". Days later the Jewish people have him crucified.

@@omac3553 : I think our best source is the Bible. The Artaxerxes In Ezra 4 : 21-23 who ordered to stopped the rebuilding in 536 BC even unto the second year of King Darius , is not the same Artaxerxes in Ezra chapter 7 and 8 . In Ezra 7: 12-8:1 is Artaxerxes 1 Longimanus who ordered the rebuilding in 457 BC . I have an old King James Version that has dating in each chapters and the dating that I have is 457 BC. And why 457 BC ? Because that’s only one that will fit the prophecy in Daniel 9: 24-27. There were 3 decrees about the rebuilding of Jerusalem; first by King Cyrus, second by King Darius and third by King Artaxerxes 1 Longimanus in 457 BC. Aside from the decree by Artaxerxes 1 , the King also provides the necessary means and security of the rebuilding of the Jerusalem. And from 457 BC. To the messiah the prince was exactly 483 years when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in river Jordan declaring “ Behold the lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world.” John 1:29. And then Jesus begins his ministry of which 3 1/2 years later he was crucified for our sins . In Daniel’s prophetic time line this was the 70th week in which in the middle of the week the messiah was cut off from among the living, Daniel 9:26, 27. When you read these verses in Daniel 9 especially verse 26 is a storyline that needs careful analysis. The prince mentioned in verse 26 is Titus the Roman General, who destroyed the City Jerusalem in 70 AD. Full filling the prophecy of Jesus that this City Jerusalem will be destroyed, Matthew 24:2.

    Intercalation or embolism in
timekeeping is the insertion of a leap day, week, or month into some calendar
years to make the calendar follow the seasons or moon phases. The insertion of
the leap month mentioned above is based on the requirement that Passover-the
festival celebrating the Exodus from Egypt, which took place in the
spring-always occurs in the [northern hemisphere's] spring season. Since the
adoption of a fixed calendar, intercalations in the Hebrew calendar have been
assigned to fixed points in a 19-year cycle. Prior to this, the intercalation
was determined empirically: These extra months are added seven times every
nineteen years. In a regular (kesidran) year, Marcheshvan has 29 days and
Kislev has 30 days. However, because of the Rosh Hashanah postponement rules
(see below) Kislev may lose a day to have 29 days, and the year is called a
short (chaser) year, or Marcheshvan may acquire an additional day to have 30
days, and the year is called a full (maleh) year. The calendar rules have been designed
to ensure that Rosh Hashanah does not fall on a Sunday, Wednesday or Friday.
This is to ensure that Yom Kippur does not directly precede or follow Shabbat,
which would create practical difficulties, and that Hoshana Rabbah is not on a
Shabbat, in which case certain ceremonies would be lost for a year. During leap
years Adar I (or Adar Aleph - "first Adar") is added before the
regular Adar. Adar I is actually considered to be the extra month, and has 30
days. Adar II (or Adar Bet - "second Adar") is the "real"
Adar, and has the usual 29 days. For this reason, holidays such as Purim are
observed in Adar II, not Adar I. The tradition in ancient Israel was that 1
Nisan would not start until the barley is ripe, being the test for the onset of
spring. If the barley was not ripe, an intercalary month would be added before
Nisan. If the twelfth full moon after the previous Passover is too early
compared to the equinox, a leap month is inserted near the end of the previous
year before the new year is set to begin.

Rick Huntling the 6 things listed in v24 happened in a literal 490 years. The destruction of the city happened “after the 69the week”. AD 70 was after the 69th week. The destruction was DETERMINED in the 490 years- Jesus pronounced judgment on them; they said “we have no King but Cesar”, and they had him crucified. If you take the cross out of the 490 years, you slaughter the prophecy. And the cross was not in a gap- it was the highlight and whole focus of this prophecy for Israel!
And then Gentiles were grafted into a Jewish Body of Believers.

It is also significant, I believe, that Daniel according to his prayer cites a passage in Jeremiah indicating that captivity would be 70 (according to the number of Sabbath years the Jews desecrated). So in a sense Daniel was seeking a literal response from God, not something figurative or symbolic.

I think one reason so many people get this wrong is because they don't know how to count 69 weeks and don't think about the definition of the word after. It,s (after) 69 finished weeks until the Messiah which is the anointing of Jesus by John the Baptist not his crucifixion . Jesus ministry was 3 1/2 years which is the mist of the (70th) week when he is cut off and the sacrifice and oblation is ceased. Jesus disciples continued to confirm the new covenant to the Jews for another 3 1/2 years until the stoning of Stephen, completing the 70th week. This has already happened just as it was made known to Daniel. It's your choice to believe it fulfilled prophecy or not. How many 70th weeks are there?

And if you claim the acceptance of the offerings ceased when Jesus died on the cross, you would have to assume that until that very moment the offerings brought by the jews were accepted, which is very hard to prove, listening to what the Evangelists are telling us. The one ceasing the oblation is not the Messiah, but the leader that is yet to come.

I'm a believer but John got this wrong. 445BC was during the reign of Artaxerxes I. Ezra 4:23 tells us that Artaxerxes actually stopped the rebuilding of the city. It wasn't until the 2nd year of his successor Darius II (423-404) that the rebuilding began again. Either Cyrus gave the decree before 535 or else we should consider the final decree to be from Darius II. I am still trying to figure out the chronology.

Artaxerxes gave his first decree in 458BC-446BC=12yrs.
Artaxerxes gave his second decree in 445BC-444BC=1yr.
    Total number of decrees years=13
What happened to the other 36 years/5 1/7 weeks?
If Artaxerxes fulfilled all 7weeks/49 years, then you would need to subtract 444BC-434years=10BC
a date that neither marks the baptism of Messiah nor his triumphant entry.
Is there a solution to the math? Yes

What you said is not true it doesn't go to his baptism.. it goes to his birthday .Nissan one the first day of the first month. Is Exodus 12 tells you.
establish to the Jews in Exodus 12. The starting date is 457 B.C. Ezra 7:9. The same time that the Tabernacle was completed in the Old testament. And Jesus come to Tabernacle amongst us! The ending date is March 29th for the 69 weeks that doesn't go to baptism!! In the year 27!

Based on Matthew 10:5-7, and Romans 1:16, and Galatians 1:14-18, the Gospel was taken "first" to Daniel's people for a period of about 7 years, before Paul took the Gospel to the Gentiles. This was the 70th week of Daniel during the first century.
Are we supposed to believe the angel Gabriel came to Daniel to reveal the timeline of the Messiah who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and then the angel failed to even mention the New Covenant? Or, is the covenant with the many in Daniel 9:27 the covenant with the many in Matthew 26:28?

@@jimbob1644 Based on Hebrews 9:15, the Messiah’s death in Daniel 9:26 cannot be separated from the New Covenant fulfilled by His blood at Calvary.
Is the New Covenant found in Daniel chapter 9?
Are we supposed to believe the angel Gabriel appeared to Daniel to reveal the timeline of the Messiah who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and then the angel failed to even mention the New Covenant. Or, is the covenant with the many in Daniel 9:27 the same covenant with the many in Matthew 26:28? The 1599 Geneva Bible is the Bible the Pilgrims brought to America, before John Darby showed up on our shores about the time of the Civil War. What was the earlier understanding of Daniel 9:27 found below in the notes of the 1599 Geneva Bible?
      -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dan 9:27 And he shal confirme the couenant with many for one weeke: and in the middes of the weeke he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the ouerspreading of the abominations, he shall make it desolate, euen vntill the consummation determined shalbe powred vpon the desolate.
      Daniel 9:27
And he (a) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to (b) cease, (c) and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make [it] desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
      (a) By the preaching of the Gospel he affirmed his promise, first to the Jews, and after to the Gentiles. (See Rom. 1:16, Matt. 10:5-7, Acts 10:36-38)
      (b) Christ accomplished this by his death and resurrection. (See Heb. 9:15)
      (c) Meaning that Jerusalem and the sanctuary would be utterly destroyed because of their rebellion against God, and their idolatry: or as some read, that the plague will be so great, that they will all be astonished at them.
      (See Matt. 23:38, Matt. 24:1-2, Luke 19:41-44)
      ------------------------------------------------
During recent years many New Covenant scholars have examined Daniel chapter 9 from a New Covenant perspective. Did Christ fulfill the summary found in Daniel 9:24? Is it about the New Covenant fulfilled by the blood of Christ at Calvary?
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
      Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. (These two verses are quoted from Jeremiah 31:31-34.)
Heb 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Act 10:36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
      Act 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
The death of the Messiah is found in Daniel 9:26, and there are only two possible singular antecedents for the word “he” in the next verse. Those antecedents are either Christ or Titus, who was the prince of the people that destroyed the temple during 70 AD.
Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
Is the “he” in Daniel 9:27 the “Messiah”, or “the prince” of the people that destroyed the city and the sanctuary in verse 26? If we used “the people of the prince” it would not be a singular “he”.
Does the author of the Book of Hebrews connect the New Covenant with the Messiah’s death found in Daniel 9:26, in the verse below?
Heb 9:15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. (NKJV)
Verse 26 also says the Messiah would be cut off “after” the 69 weeks. If I agree to paint your house “after” 69 weeks, it will not be painted until the 70th week, or after. Is there a “gap” of almost 2,000 years between the 69th week and the 70th week, or was it fulfilled during the first century when the Gospel was preached “first” to the Jews?
We know there is a time period when the Gospel was taken “first” to the Jews, as the Apostle Paul said in the verse below.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Can we find a time period of about seven years when the Gospel was taken “first” to Daniel’s people during the first century? If we can, we have good evidence that the 70th week of Daniel has already been fulfilled.
Did Christ command His disciples to take the Gospel only to Israel in the passage below?
Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans.
Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Mat 10:7 And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
Is the time period when the Gospel was preached “first” (Rom. 1:16) to the Jews in the passage above, confirmed in the passage below?
Act 10:36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
      Act 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
Act 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
In the passage above Luke confirms the fact that the Gospel of Christ was preached throughout the land of Israel after the baptism which John preached. Here again, we have a text which reveals a time period when the Gospel was taken “first” to the Jews, as Paul said in Romans 1:16.
Bible scholars have looked at the number of Passover celebrations in the Gospels and have estimated Christ’s earthly ministry to have lasted about three and one half years. Was the Gospel taken “first” (Rom. 1:16) to the Jews for a period of about three and one half years during the period of time revealed in the Gospels?
In Galatians 1:14-18 Paul reveals he did not go up to see Peter until about 3 years after his conversion. During that time the Gospel continued to be taken almost exclusively to Daniel's people, before Paul took the Gospel to the Gentiles.
Read the recent book "The 70th Week of Daniel 9 DECODED" by David Wilcoxson for confirmation of the above.

The 70 weeks are a period of 490 days because in the first few verses, Daniel understood the 70 years of captivity are a result of failure to celebrate 70 Jubilees from the time of Saul unto their few years in captivity. Actually, they celebrated Jubilee only twice, once, during the birth of solomon and the next Jubilee they celebrated was during the inauguration of their Temple. Every 50 years, they should had celebrated 8 Jubilees and therefore, in there 451 years of history, they missed 70 Jubilees and only twice celebrated it. So, having kings and Temple doesn’t guarantee a right path to Yahweh but only make them sinned against Yahweh. So, the 70 weeks was not about rebuilding their Temple but rather points to the True Temple of Yahweh, his son, Jesus and his ministry. As a lamb of Yahweh, he must be of the first year, meaning, must be only year old as the length of his ministry, from his cleansing of the Temple unto the next year cleansing of the Temple again. It says the the roads shall be rebuilt again. Jesus being cutoff does not refer to his crucifixion but rather, him being chosen as the sacrificial lamb by his countrymen. This was Friday, after his 2nd cleansing of the Temple, five days before his death on April 28, 28 AD, Wednesday. One lunar year is 51 weeks but in 28 AD, an additional monty, Adar 2, was added before the Nisan 1 New Year, so as to wait for the harvest be ready. This makes the year 55 weeks and pushed the Passover to the end of April in 28 AD. The 70 weeks of Daniel did not started with a command of a Gentile king but rather by Yahweh Himself when Jesus was baptized by John on February 13, 27 AD, Thursday. Use 2003 calendar for this year. Add 7 weeks to it and this was the first entry of Jesus in Jerusalem, Thursday. The next day was his first cleansing of the Temple, Friday, for the after sunset Sabbath. Add the 7 weeks baptism to first cleansing to 55 weeks 2nd cleansing makes it 62 weeks where he was cutoff. Add 6 more days makes a total of 440 days. The 3 days and 3 nights from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday afternoon on May 1, 28 AD are not included. We still have 50 days more and this would be future. Add 66 times 11 times 1000 days takes you to January 20, 2016, the 7th year of Obama. Add 66 times 11 takes you to January 15, 2018, the 1st year of Trump. Add 11 times 28 or 11 lunar cycles and it will take you to the start of the covenant with many by the False Messiah. Trump’s days will only be 666 days. From Obama’s re-election on November 6, 2012, his rule was extended for 42 months. He will have to rule for another 40 weeks plus 6 weeks during the days of Tribulation. The last 50 days of the 70 weeks of Daniel will resume on the Days of Noah, the memorial of the flood, on the 17th day of moon wile the sun is at scorpio, on the 4365th year after the flood. It will be Saturday and jesus told the Jews to pray the their flight be not Sabbath day, for it will be on November 24, 2018 and it will be winter on those 40 days of Tribulation.

It is literal, but John does a bad job explaining it. A Channel called Uncontrolled Opposition has a great video series on it. I would just watch the first 4 videos. Excellent charts and explanations.
The fall of 457bc is the start. The fall of 4bc is when Jesus is born. Fall of 27ad, Jesus begins his ministry which also begins the 70th week.
In the midst of the week, April of 31ad, Jesus is crucified which ends the need for sacrifice and oblation (though the jews kept sacrificing anyway, which were now an abomination since it shows they reject Jesus. Jerusalem would be destroyed in 70ad do to their rejection of Jesus).
The end of the 70th week is 34ad when the first martyr Stephen was stoned to death (who uttered similar words which Jesus uttered before he died).
Jesus in april of 31Ad, was also crucified in the middle of the 7 day week (Wednesday before sundown).
Also if you believe in a 6000 year old earth, if each 1000 years = a day, 0-1000 is 1st day, 1000-2000 2nd day, 2000-3000 3rd day, well the 4 day is the middle of a 7000 year week, and Jesus was born in and died within the 4 day of that week also. It's like God wanted the entire creation and history to point to Jesus.

John copied this sermon from a British guy from the 1800s that didn't know what he was doing!!! and John is still believing It.. the ending date of the 69 weeks is Nissan one on the Jewish calendar( New Year's Day in the year 27.) It says after that Christ is cut off not for his own sake ...it doesn't say how long after! Many prophecy preachers try to make that fit to the exact day of the crucifixion ..it doesn't work ..because I know the timeline of every one of these prophecies to the day! Seventy weeks are determined upon *thy people and upon thy holy city*
    ...to finish the transgression, and
    (Jn 1:29; 1 Jn 3:5; Is 53:12)
...to make an end of sins, and
    (1 Cor 15:3; Col 1:19-20; Heb 9:26-28)
...to make reconciliation for iniquity, and
    (Rom 5:10; 2 Cor 5:18; Col 1:20-22; Eph 2:14-16)
...to bring in everlasting righteousness, and
    (Matt 3:15; Rom 3:21-22; Rom 8:4; 2 Cor 5:21)
...to seal up the vision and prophecy, and
    (Jn 19:30; Luke 24:25-27; Rev 19:10)
    ...to anoint the most Holy.
    (Is 61:1; Mark 1:15; Luke 4:18; Heb 9:8)
    {Daniel 9:24} < The context
And he [the Messiah] shall confirm the covenant with many for ONE WEEK: and IN THE MIDST OF THE WEEK (the seventieth) he [Christ] SHALL CAUSE THE SACRIFICE AND THE OBLATION TO CEASE, and for the overspreading of abominations (the continued temple sacrifices, after Christ one perfect sacrifice.) he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. ("Behold your house has been left unto you desolate.")
    {Daniel 9:27}
7 weeks + 62 weeks + *one week* = 70 weeks, to anoint the most Holy, and to seal up the vision and the prophecy.
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, *It was necessary* that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: (for there were three and a half years remaining grace for "thy people" of the final week.) but seeing ye put it from you, and *judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life* lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
    {Acts 13:46-48}
To fulfil the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until *the land had enjoyed her sabbaths* for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfil threescore and ten years.
    {2 Chronicles 36:21}
For 490 years, equal to 70 sabbath rest for the land every seventh year, that Israel and Judah transgressed the law of God.
This is why they received seventy years exiled in bondage in the land of Babylon.
There was no gap in their seventy years in exil, and there is no gap in the 490 years of transgressing the law of God, and there most certainly was no gap unto the coming of the Messiah who did not come in a vacuum, but rather confirmed his covenant with many for there and a half years, and in the land of Israel's inheritance.
The stoning of Steven is when probation closed on the covenant that God made with the their fathers, exactly three and a half years after Jesus Christ, our passover was sacrificed for us, and the gospel of the kingdom of heaven went out unto the Gentiles also.

The math is off on MacArthur‘s explanation. The decree to rebuild the temple by Artexeres happened in 457 BC. Not 445 BC. If you use 457 BC then you arrive at 27 AD for Jesus’ baptism which is right on time. The 70th week follows right after and ends in 34 AD with the stoning of Stephan. Jesus is crucified halfway through the 70th week.

@@MaryMartinez-lm5tv The 70th week is ALL about Jesus and no one else. Daniel 9:26 is very clear that this prophecy is talking about Jesus. “And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;”. The anti-Christ is not Messiah and the anti-Christ is not crucified 3 1/2 years into his ministry as Jesus was.
There is no such thing as “The Great Tribulation” found in the Bible. There is only an unspecified time of tribulation.
The 1260 years of papal persecution runs from 538 ad to 1798 ad. This lines up with the French Revolution where the pope was captured by Napoleon and died in prison.
The entire 70 weeks is given for Daniel’s people the Jews to turn around from their transgressions. It is a continuous 490 years and is not meant to be broken up and moved to the future.
The 70th week is all about Jesus’ ministry from His baptism in 27 ad, His crucifixion in 31 ad, (He was crucified in the middle but not for Himself), to Stephan’s stoning in. 34 ad. Stephan’s stoning was where the Jews finally turned away from God and the gospel then went to the Gentiles. The 70th week is ALL about Jesus Christ!

The 1599 Geneva Bible is the Bible the Pilgrims brought to America. What was their understanding of Daniel 9:27? Did they believe the “covenant with the many” in Daniel 9:27 is the “covenant with the many” in Matthew 26:28, which is the New Covenant? Did the angel Gabriel appear to Daniel to reveal the timeline of the Messiah who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and then the angel failed to even mention the New Covenant?
The following comes from the notes of the 1599 Geneva Bible.
    ………………………………………………………………
    (b) Christ accomplished this by his death and resurrection.
    (c) Meaning that Jerusalem and the sanctuary would be utterly destroyed because of their rebellion against God, and their idolatry: or as some read, that the plague will be so great, that they will all be astonished at them.
    ………………………………………………………………………………
During recent years many New Covenant scholars have examined Daniel chapter 9 from a New Covenant perspective. Did Christ fulfill the summary found in Daniel 9:24? Is it about the New Covenant fulfilled by the blood of Christ at Calvary?
Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
    Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
Heb 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. (These two verses are quoted from Jeremiah 31:31-34.)
Heb 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
    Act 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
How did Peter address the crowd on the Day of Pentecost when about 3,000 Israelites accepted the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and fulfilled by the blood of Christ at Calvary?
Act 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
We know there was a time period between Calvary and Paul’s conversion, because he held the coats of those who stoned Stephen. Since Pentecost was almost 2 months after Christ died at Calvary, we know a time period of several months may have occurred before Paul came to faith in Christ.
What did Paul say below about the time period between his conversion and the day he went to see Peter?
Gal 1:14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
Gal 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,
Gal 1:16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
Gal 1:17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
Gal 1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
In the passage above the Apostle Paul reveals there was a time period of about 3 years between the time of his conversion and the time he went to see Peter. Therefore, we know Paul did not start preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles until at least three years after his conversion.
Can we find a time period of about seven years when the Gospel was taken “first” (Rom. 1:16) to the Jews, before Paul began preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles?
3 ½ years during the earthly ministry of Christ
    (Matt. 10:5-7, Acts 10:36-38)
Several months between Christ’s death and Paul’s conversion
3 years between Paul’s conversion and the time he went to see Peter.
    (Galatians 1:14-18)
If the time periods above are added up we get a total time period of about seven years when the Gospel was taken “first” to Daniel’s people, before Paul took the Gospel to the Gentiles. Therefore, a New Covenant understanding of Daniel chapter 9 reveals the 70th week of Daniel occurred during the first century.
Did the sacrifices cease in the middle of the week, (after about 3 ½ years), when Christ died at Calvary? Why did God rip the temple veil in half at the moment Christ died? Even though the Jews continued to sacrifice animals after Calvary, were those sacrifices accepted by God? The answer to these questions can be found in the Book of Hebrews. Was Christ the final sacrifice for sin in Hebrews 10:16-18, in fulfillment of the New Covenant?
Very few modern Christians have ever heard the New Covenant interpretation of Daniel 9:27, which is found in the 1599 Geneva Bible.

In the seventh chapter of Ezra the decree is found. [Ezra 7:12-26.] In its completest form it was issued by Artaxerxes, king of Persia, B. C. 457. But in Ezra 6:14 the house of the Lord at Jerusalem is said to have been built “according to the commandment [margin, decree] of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.” These three kings, in originating, re-affirming, and completing the decree, brought it to the perfection required by the prophecy to mark the beginning of the 2300 years.

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, [G1242] which was established upon better promises.
    {Hebrews 8:6}
For this is the covenant [G1242] that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; *I will put my laws* into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Hi Alex. The explanation he gave (at the 3 minute mark) was that the OT calendar was 360 days. So Daniel's prophecy would be 483 x 360 = 173880 days. To convert to the Gregorian calendar it is 173880 / 365.25 = 476 years. From 445 BC this would take to AD 32 (with no year 0). The alternative is to start with a 457 BC date (when Artaxerxes gave Ezra the decree to return to Jerusalem) that takes to AD 30. Hope it helps.

And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true: wherefore shut thou up the vision; for it shall be for many days. (2,300 prophetic days = years)
And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; afterward I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was astonished at the vision,
      👉but none *understood* it.
      {Daniel 8:26-27}
In the first year (years later in the 68th year of the exile) of his [Darius] reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of YHWH came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
      {Daniel 9:2}
      ...
Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and *understanding*
At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision (of the 2,300 years in Daniel 8).
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, [49 years] and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
      {Daniel 9:21-23,25}
Jews do not deny the first part of this prophecy, (and that the day for a year principle applies to it) it's only after threescore and two weeks, do they deny the coming of their Messiah.
Jesus Christ did not come in a vacuum.
He confirmed his new covenant promised in (Jer 31:31-34) for three and a half years, after his anointing by the Holy Spirt at the beginning of his ministry. Like king David before, Jesus would be anointed 'again' at his death, when he became our passover Lamb in the middle of the seventieth week, with three and a half years remaining (grace) of the final seventieth week under the covenant God made with their fathers "Thy people".
This is why the gospel was preach exclusively within the boards of the promise land, before Christ chose Paul to bring his gospel unto the Gentile nation to bring them into the common wealth of Israel (Jeshurun his people).
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
      {Acts 13:46}
And *after* threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off,
      👉but not for himself:...
(For he (God the Father) hath made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
      {2 Corinthians 5:21})
...and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
      {Daniel 9:26}
      ^
This is not part of the seventy weeks.
It's the consequences of the abominations made in the temple, after Christ had put an end to the sacrifices and the oblations of the daily. It was a prince (lower-case) of Rome (the fourth beast of Daniel 7) who stood in the holy place in 70 A.D.
☆The seventy weeks are determined from the terminus que [457 B.C.] of the 2,300 evenings and mornings, and the cleansing of the sanctuary (judgment 'yom kippur') 👉in heaven.
      {Daniel 9:27}
"Behold your house has been left unto you desolate."

One-half of The Seventieth Week is called "time, times and half a time" (Dan.7.25; 12.7; Rev.12.14), but also "1260 days" (Rev.11.3; 12.6). 1260 calendar days is 40 calendar months * 31.5 calendar days, or 3.5 calendar years. If 3.5 years are half of a prophetic week, it stands to reason the 7 calendar years are one prophetic week.

If prophesy was that easy to interpret, why are a majority of Christian leaders and theologians not in agreement? If we don't do our own research we can be seriously bewitched and misled. Daniel's 70-week prophesy requires intense prayer to understand. Daniel 9:24-27 is widely misunderstood. The prophet Daniel was not an academic exclusively concerned with his ideas and popularity. He was humble in his heart for the truth concerning his people. God answered accurately and so many have made it what they want it to be. If everyone agreed their findings from the Father's inspiration we would all agree the truth and the truth in righteousness is all we need to be worthy of our calling.

62 literal weeks Messiah cutoff. His ministry was one year long. It had to be. By law the Passover sacrifice had to be a yearling.

They kill the Passover Lamb on the 14th(which is Thursday, since the 10th was Sunday, the 1st day of the week), Christ was crucified on Thursday the 14th as testified by the religious leaders who wouldn't enter the judgement hall because they would be defiled and not able to partake of the "Passover" John 18:28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

Please don't consider this reply as confrontation, just a comparison!

+Jimbo jenkins several things, first the 10th day of the month is not necessarily the first day of the week. the month begins at the first sliver of the new moon. so the Passover sabbath is not the weekly sabbath , there are two Sabbaths passover week. next I believe you are imagining a project that says Messiah ministers 3 1/2 years. you will have to show me that one.
scripture is very clear. Dan 9 states clearly that Messiah was cutoff after 62 weeks. Jesus stated himself that he came to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. ( his words not mine) also if Jesus wasn't a yearling then he wasn't an eligible passover sacrifice. that's the law plain and simple.
a3 1/2 year ministry is an abstract from the gospel of John determined by the number of times passover is mentioned.

Passover began on the tenth of the month(Sunday, when Jesus rode into town) when the lamb was chosen and brought into the home and sacrificed on the 14th(Thursday) Jesus was hung on the cross and died the same time the lambs were slaughtered for the Passover. John 18:
28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled ; but that they might eat the passover. The whole Dispensational Futurist interpretation of Daniel's 70th week (Dan.9:24-27) is based upon:
    1) the presupposition that the 70th week is still seeking fulfillment; and that there is a large "gap" of time between the 69th and 70th weeks of Daniel's prophecy (thus overthrowing the dispensational futurist assertion that they interpret the Bible "literally"…because the "gap theory" is held in contradistinction to a literal rendering of Daniel's 70 weeks).
    2) the fallacious assertion that the Jews used a 360 day yearly calendar…I assure you, they did not. They did, as well as all ancient near-eastern peoples, utilize a Lunar *monthly* calendar. But all the ancient near-eastern peoples used differing methods to reconcile their Lunar calendar (which would equal about 360 days in a year) with the Solar *yearly calendar* (about 365.25 days). None…I repeat, "NONE" of the ancient near-eastern peoples used a 360 day yearly calendar in total disregard of the proper 365 day solar year!
These people were experts at looking to the stars, sun, and moon, for figuring out the times of the seasons…they knew the inconsistency of using a Lunar calendar to establish a yearly cycle (the Lunar cycle was only meant to determine *months*; not *years*).
Hope this helps some of you.

The Jews restored control of the Old City of Jerusalem on 7 June 1967 and so you got to start counting again as per the prophecy of Daniel's 70 weeks.
After the 62 weeks Messiah would be cut off... but what about after the 7 weeks ?
So count 7 weeks from 7 June 1967 which come to 23 Sept 2015 the Day of Atonement.
      (7x7x360 days = 17 640 days).
Nobody of sound mind has implied that the Jews used a 360 day yearly calendar but it is a matter of biblical fact that it is used prophetically in the Bible.

"Nobody of sound mind has implied that the Jews used a 360 day yearly calendar…"
Ah, yes they have. In fact, the Dispensational Futurist theory of Daniel's 70th week being cut off from the 69 weeks, and then thrown out into the future some 2,000 years later, is dependent upon the assertion of a 360 day year, rather than a 365.25 day year.
Dispensational Futurists begin Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy with the wrong decree from Artaxerxes.
There are in fact four possible starting points for the prophecy of Dan. 9:24-27:
      1) Cyrus' decree in 537 B.C. (Ezra 1:1-4; 6:3-5; cf. 1 Chron. 36:22-23);
      2) Darius' decree in about 519/518 B.C. (Ezra 6:1-12);
      3) Artaxerxes' decree in 457 B.C. (Ezra 7:1-26);
      4) Artaxerxes' second decree in 444 B.C.
Dispensational Futurists begin the 70 week prophecy of Daniel 9:24-27 with the 4th decree listed above: Artaxerxes' second decree in 444 B.C.
But there are some major problems with this assertion; I will not list them all, but only the problem of the time aspect of it [and how the dating doesn't add up].
If we begin the 69 weeks (which is all that Dispensational Futurists assert has been fulfilled from Daniel's 70 weeks prophecy) with Artaxerxes' 2nd decree in 444 B.C., and we add 483 years (69 weeks) to it, we come to 39 A.D., which is way too late for the crucifixion, or the life of Christ.
So, how do Dispensational Futurists attempt to solve this problem?
They assert a 360 day "prophetic year" calendar, rather than a 365.25 day solar year calendar.
Thus, they turn the first 69 weeks/483 years into 476 "prophetic years"…amazing!
Of course, there are several problems with this as well, chief among them being:
"While the 360-day lunar year was known in ancient Egypt, Assyria, and Babylon, using a system of 12 months with 30 days each, *it is of vital importance to recognize that various devices were employed in these nations to bring about an approximation to the 365.25 days of the solar year*.
And, "No ancient nation is known to have employed a 360-day year in complete disregard for the solar cycle of 365.25 days." [Daniel and Revelation Committee Series, v.3, pg. 21].
But the Dispensational Futurist eschatological system, which is completely dependent upon a future fulfillment of Daniel's 70th week, is dependent upon the assertion of a 360-day "prophetic yearly" calculation.
However, if one takes the 3rd decree listed above (the 1st Decree of Artaxerxes in 457 B.C.), then the problems go away…and we don't have to cut off the 70th week from the 69 weeks…Jesus fulfills the first 3.5 years of the 70th week in His earthly ministry…the apostles continue it for the next 3.5 years after His ascension…then the gospel goes out to the whole world :)
      Soli Deo Gloria!

Yes, "it is a matter of biblical fact that 1260 days are 42 months are 3.5 years."
What does that have to do with Daniel 9:24-27, which are recorded as 70 weeks, or, 490 days, which are a literal 490 years, utilizing the day=year principle as taught in Scripture?
But the 1,260 days (42 months, 'time, times, and half a time') have NOTHING to do with Daniel 9:24-27.
Dispensationalists assert, inconsistently, that while the 490 days of Dan. 9:24-27 are to be taken as a literal 490 years (which they are correct to do, except that they begin the prophecy at the wrong date and with the wrong decree from Artaxerxes I Longimanus), they abandon this principle when speaking of the 1,260 day reign of the 'little horn' (Dan. 7), the 'two witnesses' (Rev. 11), the 'woman in the wilderness' (Rev. 12), and the 'sea beast' (Rev. 13).
Why abandon the day=year principle with the 1,260 day time prophecies, but utilize it in Dan. 9:24-27?
Protestants of the past were actually consistent in that they viewed the 1,260 days also as literal years.
Why don't Dispensational Futurists do this?
Because they are following a false eschatological system, that's why.
The time prophecies of Daniel and Revelation are already given as symbolic time periods.
But the interpretation should be literal; they should not be taken as so-called "prophetic years," but literal 365.25 day years.
If you have any questions, let me know.

If Seventy weeks is literally Seventy weeks, then its literally not ''Seventy weeks of years'.
Be that as it may, I accept that the vision was meant to convey Seventy weeks of years (the 'weeks' is metaphorically 'weeks of years') John Macarthur actually presupposes the same thing.
OK if it is literally Seventy weeks of years, then that time frame has literally gone, literally long ago, literally in the First Century.
But Macarthur stretches these 490 years out to thousands of years. So much for his 'literal' approach.
None of us can go through even a single day taking everything 'literally'. No. Language doesn't work that way.
Rather we take it in its normal, contextual sense. eg. 'I've been working my fingers to the bone'. We all understand that phrase but it is not a literal description of what is being talked about.

Megan More hey Megan I’m no expert but there are two competing thoughts.
      1. many people believe Daniel 9 v27 onwards is talking about the anti christ making a covenant with Israel half way through a 7 year period of tribulation (which is still to come). They believe that 69 of Daniels weeks passed until this point in the Bible and then there has been a gap until the present day, and that soon the last week of Daniels 70 weeks will start what people call the 7 years of tribulation when the anti christ will come on the scene.
      2. Other people think that the 69 weeks went upto when Jesus started his ministry, which lasted 3 1/2 years. They believe that the HE isn’t the anti christ but in fact Jesus and his death was when he was “cut off”. Another 3 1/2 years passed which brought an end to the 70 weeks.
So basically the first set of people believe in a 7 tribulation is still to happen. The second set of people it was fulfilled when Jesus died.
The other passage that plays into this is Mat 24 which makes reference to the “abomination of desolation” here in Daniel 9. The first set of people say Mat 24 is talking about the future tribulation period and the abomination is the anti christ. They believe Mat 24 is talking about Jesus second coming. The second set of people think the first half of Mat 24 is talking about the destruction of the temple in 70AD and only the second half of Mat 24 is talking about the second coming of Christ.
For what it’s worth I’m in the second camp
      Grace and peace x

25 Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler-the Anointed One
-comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times.
26 “After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing,
and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple.
The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end.
27 The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time,
he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration,
until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.”
King James version - correct compared to original Hebrew dead sea scrolls!
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks,
and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
    26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;
and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,
and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
    Who is "he"?
Messiah the prince can only be Jesus
Who are the ones carrying out the judgement?
People of the prince were the romans in Israel who carried out the siege of 70 ad fulfilling Ezekiel 5
"prince" used in the bible as one that power is given. Clear both Messiah and the romans were indeed given
power. Messiah from the Father and Rome to crucify! Rome to put down rebellion 70 ad.
    desolate
desolate refers to the former temple made of human hands now no longer representing God's Spirit
but reallocated to the human body where our hearts reside.
The pouring out occurs after the sanctuary has been made already desolate identifying the order
of occurrence that matches a history understanding and conflicts with a future version.
    John 2:19
    What are the "abominations" plural?
The abominations are the false un-repentant religiously defiled worship that occurred
when Jesus found The House of Prayer used for other sinful purposes around 30 ad
    Explain consummation.
comsumation identifies the fullness of His out-pouring of wrath for the abominations and refusal of receiving Messiah
    Isaiah 28:22
    The time context is?
70 ad. for Daniel Chapter 9
The time context foreshadows re- occurrence
The Great Tribulation period, at the end of the age of grace 2000 years from 30 ad plus the time the
    tribulation takes to complete.
As before so in the future.
The cause of the tribulation is judgement for rebellion of Messiah round 2!
Spirit centered around the location of the Holy Mountain Israel but also Global due to
sinful aid by self professed Christians interested in prophecy who falsely interrupting Daniel
    as an antichrist reveling passage.
Element / assumptions read into the text of just 3 verses of Daniel commonly preached that don't exist in the bible.
    1) separating verse 26 to include a second figure other than Jesus.
This is a deceptive attempt to add a replacement for Christ injecting antichrist into a text
where it clearly provide no grammatic means to assume so.
    2) identifying the second figure as antichrist
Only one figure is mentioned in this verse so no antichrist exist here.
    3) replacing the destructive role commanded by Jesus and giving it over to antichrist robs Jesus
of role as Justice against the sin of rebellion.
    4) falsely identifying the purpose of the destruction as unwarranted action from an enemy, "antichrist"
The destruction mentioned is judgement due to rebellion.
    5) separately identifying ruler, "antichrist" and army when the bible simple say people of the prince.
Based on common misunderstand Daniel 9 a presumption has influenced translations of the bible
and is evident by the changes to this chapter. An attempt to place antichrist in this prophecy and
applied it to future rather than historic. This robs Christ of credit and glory of fulfillment.
    6) added some translations provide and object placed in Jerusalem where this ruler with be.
A statue of antichrist. Knowing satan's nature of deception false elements will likely by seen as
evidence that this mis-interruption is actual being fulfilled. It's compounded deception. See the you are
    not deceived said Jesus.
    7) assuming "the" covenant is a peace treaty or just treaty.
The text clearly say the covenant making it only one possible Jeramiah 31:31
If changed to treaty it might referrer to peace which points to Israel and is all false.
    8) providing application of this falsely assumed treat applies only to Israel.
Know the covenant is God's redemption it applies to all mankind!
    9) misidentifying the "abominations" plural as singular future event. verb usage "overspreading"
Changing to singular makes it an event in time not actions over time.
    10) misidentifying the falsely assumed abomination's purpose as an attempt to defile a temple in the future.
The future abomination's are a re-occurrence of the desire to reassert temple worship. round 2
    11) misidentifying / renaming sanctuary as a temple which leads to further false assumption later in revelation
    12) providing a narrative where antichrist fills the role of destruction that Jesus performs as judgement communing
referred as in replacement of Christ, which is the reason for the term antichrist in the first place.
    13) assuming the 7 years or final week of the weeks total is reserved solely for the tribulation period.
Tribulation will occur, however long it may be this remaining week does not detail it's length.
    14) failure to interrupt the final week as the week where Messiah is cut off and confirms the covenant half way.
Messiah preached 3 1/2 years before the cross making it mid week. nothing is required of the remaining half week.
    15) Some translations falsely phrase "until the very end." for a time indicator of this prophetic event in verse 26
as just before the second coming. Again derived based on previous presumption's made elsewhere in this chapter.
antichrist and false prophet figures seek to change times and traditions.
    16) Some translation force the order of desolate and abomination making one the cause of the other. The desolate occurred
first and the abomination is an act that causes judgement that the desolate becomes the target of. So not timing but relational
    in context.

antichrist will play a role in end times. Likely involved with enabling temple construction or rebellion to occur.
However his role is found in revelation. The accused in Daniel 9 are Pharisee and unbelieving Israel of history.
Results of the errors I write about are robbing Jesus the glory for fulfilling this prophecy historically and the execution judgement He completed.
Offering replacement theology of Christ role in this prophecy and enabling people to promote rebuilding a temple and sacrifice resulting in rebellion
again and actually causing the judgement again "Tribulation!" God will allow exploit and chaos to be leveraged against
Israel as a means of refining via fire. antichrist has his role as a vehicle of destruction.
Tempting anyone to commit sin is worse then sinning by oneself. However tempting or promoting others to sin
by means of active rebellion against Messiah is worthy of the greatest punishment, Tribulation globally.
Globally because red heifers' sent from America be gentiles now involves the nation conspiring against Messiah.
His response will match the scale mankind inclines.
I understand the Tribulation period to be in direct response to open active rebellion to rebuild a temple made
of human hands just like the one God destroyed in 70 ad for that reason alone. If the same action occurs in the future
knowing God's nature remains the same, then I know His response will be destruction and tribulation unlike the
world has ever seen before. Just like Ezekiel chapter 5 describes Israel's judgement for rebellion of Messiah the firt time.
Round 2 is going global! And it looks like the church is involved with helping to promote it! I plead repent! Pray!

Anderson's calculation locates Palm Sunday as April 6, 32AD. The crucifixion took place during the reign of Pontius Pilate; 26AD - 36AD. It also took place in a year when Passover occurred on a Friday; viz., 30AD and 33AD. If the triumphant entry took place in 32AD, it could not have been followed by the resurrection 1 week later. Anderson's date for Palm Sunday will need considerable effort to reconcile it with the date of the resurrection.

If the text say one thing and I say the opposite that is not enlightenment.
Baptism is an immersion, so it is simple to be immersed or empowered by Yah's spirit (breathe or wind) and there are examples of that in the OLD & no one had faith or called on the name of Jesus.
One thing that must be understood is sometimes in biblical literature the same object can be spoken of another way, but it is not speaking of 2 different things.
The Holy Spirit and fire can be one of the same.

God is a spirit. What type of book would a spirit write? A spiritual book and not literal.
What? When Yah gave the 10 commandments, did He literally want us to physically observe them or spiritually?
Yah gave a spiritual instructions that can be observed literally and physically. How do you spiritual keep the Sabbath, but you literally work when you do not suppose too.
How do you spiritually not steal, but literally do? If your learning or enlightenment literally contradicts the literal meaning how is that correct? Shalom Gary and have a good day.

The last portion of Daniels 9 sounds like the destruction of the temple while the beginning of the 69th weeks sounds like the messiah Jesus but the time different between Christ and the temple destruction is 40 yrs which again does not align with the seventy weeks. If the messiah is to come in the 69th week where he dies half thru the last week, the narrative does not fit within 3,5 yrs of Christ’s death. If the death of Christ was completely by the 69th week, it’s overshoots the destruction of the temple by 10 yrs , which still does not fit the narrative.
The other problem is, if this was concerning Christ fulfilling a prophecy, why is it not even mentioned in the New Testament that his death was in fulfillment of Daniels 9, just like all the other reference of fulfillment given in z Matthews. This would be the biggest confirmation but it does not refer to Daniels 9 anywhere in the NT… something seems wrong here

And after those sixty-two weeks, the anointed one will disappear and
vanish. .... I see no indisputable proof that can be verified by a third party that any of the Prophecies are referring to Jesus of Nazareth, a lot of this is ambiguous and people are reading into things that aren't there. If God wanted to prophesy that Jesus was indeed the Messiah, he should have said something like "the name of the Messiah will be Jesus of Nazareth, he will be crucified on something called a cross during a time in which people called the Romans will be occupying Israel."
Prophecies can always be debated and they always will be and there is no consensus about anything

+Vajina: The t-i-m-e of the coming of Messiah is not ambiguous - u-n-t-i-l 7+62 weeks ie.69 weeks. The One who came at that time, born in Bethlehem, was Jesus [Messiah]. A-f-t-e-r those 69 weeks (in the midst of the 70th week) Jesus was 'cut off' in crucifixion, but God raised Him from the dead. His death and resurrection is the sign of the covenant which put and end to [completed, filled up] sacrifice and offering. The first part of verses 25, 26 and 27 speaks of Messiah. The latter part of each of those verses speak of the city and the temple, which were destroyed by the Roman army coming in like a flood. Yes, prophecies are taken and twisted all ways, but the key is in consistency across Scripture and in keeping Christ as the focus of scripture - He said "In them (the OT writings) you think you have eternal life, but they testify of Me"

The covenant is not broken, that is not what it says either. It says that He shall confirm the covenant for seven years, that is he would take seven years to bring the people into the covenant. Jesus spent three and a half years doing that and then He died, so in the middle of the week he ended the need for sacrifices. There is another three and a half remaining which is the tribulation and during that time Jesus once again deals directly with Israel to bring them into the covenant.

    Hello dear friends,
I see that John MacArthur is using the 445 BC restoration of the walls of Jerusalem's date.
But actually there another date in which the walls around Jerusalem were restored. That date is 1538 AD. Suleiman the Magnificent restores the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem and the Jerusalem city walls (which are the current walls of the Old City of Jerusalem). As far as I know these walls are still standing to this day.
There is also another event that happened in 1541 AD. Ottoman Sultan Suleiman I sealed off the Golden Gate to prevent the Jewish Messiah's entrance.
If this Daniel 9 scripture were referring to Jesus, why would they seal off the entrance. Unless there is another to come.
The foundation of the Temple was laid in 520 BC. That seems more like a
starting date for when the command would have been given to rebuild Jerusalem.
Here is my take on Daniel 9:24-27. I believe the command was given in 1538. Once a command or decree is sent out from our Lord it will be stopped until it is finished. A decree can not be stopped for 2000 years then restarted to finish the last 7 years.
Daniel 9:24-27 is unfulfilled. Jesus in Matt. 24:15 and Mark 13:4 tells us to go back and read and understand what prophet Daniel spoke of. I would think it was not referring to Jesus because he was born outside of that 490 year period that was decreed. Plus it says that the anointed one would be killed or cutoff after the sixty-two sets of seven or 434 years but still inside that 490 year decree.
Then there's that seven set of seven or 49 years. Which I think that could be the anointed ones birth and death. 49 years is also a jubilee.
    One other idea is:
    490 total years decreed
434 years will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem and the
    anointed one comes
49 years anointed ones birth and death
7 years are left for the Tribulation
Add them all up and you have a total of 490 years.
In 1538 the walls were restored around Jerusalem along with the Dome of the Rock by Suleiman the Magnificent. If that were a starting date then the end could be 2028.
The anointed one could be cutoff in the year 2021. Leaving 7 years of tribulation.
In Daniel 9:26-27 says that the Anointed One will be killed and after his death a RULER will arise and destroy the city and the temple. Later he make a 7 year treaty. After half that time he breaks that treaty. This ruler is the Anti-Christ.
So there will be an Anointed One here to lead mankind into all truths.
Please let me know what you think.
Peace and love be with you all.

Yet you do not explain why God separated the weeks. " there shall be 7 weeks and 62 weeks"
Daniel 9 is all about a jubilee cycle. It's continuous ie: the 69 weeks rightly understood lead us into the 70th week, the final week of the gospel being preached before God brings to an end the "sacrifice and offering". ie the door to salvation is shut - forever.
This harmonizes with Matt13 the dragnet.
Daniel 7 is the time of Jacobs troubles, the great tribulation.
The chapters of Daniel 8 through to 12 are more detail pertaining to Daniel7 giving more info on the 4 beasts to identify during this "time times and half a time", the 1st half of the 70th week.
Eph5:2 confirms that Christ Jesus is the "sacrifice and offering". The wrath of God follows after the resurrection, midweek, after the tribulation.
The wrath of God is the 2nd half of Daniel's 70th week bringing us into the time of the Millennium age.
Daniel 9:27 is the last day. The resurrection, the fulness of the gentiles, the church caught up to meet the Lord in the air. We are counted worthy to escape all these things that are coming upon the earth - nuclear annihilation. Jesus cuts the days short to gather His bride and mark the 144k Jews. The 2nd death will have no power on those who partake in the 1st resurrection. Now judgment and the kingdom are given to the saints as per Daniel7

Macarthur insists that the interpretation must be literal as he has demonstrated in the 69 weeks, But, hang on .. where is his acceptance of the 70 weeks as being literal? No, he detaches the last week and puts in a gap that is just literally not warranted. Literal when it suits him.

    • @ryangallmeier5987
      @ryangallmeier5987 8 років тому +2

Yep…not only this, but he fails to see that the "two witnesses" (Rev. 11), the "woman in the wilderness" (Rev. 12), the "sea beast" (Rev. 13), and the reign of the "little horn" (Dan. 7), which are all said to be for the time period of 1,260 days, is also meant to utilize the day=year principle [just like Daniel 9:24-27 does]…therefore, these things are to be interpreted as *1,260 literal years!*
And, like all Dispensational Futurists, MacArthur fails to see that Dan. 9:24-27 has nothing to do with the 1,260 days/years.
No gap of time in Daniel's 70 week time prophecy.
No association of the 1,260 days/years with the last week of Daniel's prophecy.
Dispensational Futurism is an erroneous eschatological system, plain and simple.

Being infatuated with Israel he ends up disparaging the church.. go to his quip at 13m15s. the audience laughed but it is shocking. It is noticeable how little reference he makes to the NT when he is teaching premillenialism. For example at around 59to60m he is talking about rightful glory eventually being given to God THROUGH ISRAEL, whereas Paul says in Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory IN THE CHURCH and in Christ Jesus to all generations [n of the age of the ages] forever and ever.
