thank you , you are producing the best mechanical videos on the net.
That's very kind of you to say so. I try my best to make them thorough.
You sir, are awesome!
Thank you very much

Thank you for commenting Abderrazzak.
Another excellent video. Be very interested to see if the noise has now been stopped now that you’ve cleaned it.
Thank you Vespa. Have to hope the car starts first lol but will be interesting like you say.
Your videos are fantastic
Thank you so much for saying so Sebastian. Hope they help you.
@@CoatsandGaiters They really do, I have a Mini R50 which is my first car and have started trying to do work on it myself to really keep it going. Your videos are very helpful for people who don't have a car wizard to go to for help or advice and are full of those key bits of info that helps someone like me avoid mistakes: "work the bolt back and forward so it doesn't bind"
thanks👍
Thank you
Hi,
Nice job, easy to do !
My tips : It's easier to use a small pump to drain the hydraulic fluid. ;-)
BR
Thank you, I think your probably right.
Hi, I'm from South America, Chile, I was looking at your page on a dismantling of the steering pump of a mini cooper ... and I need if you could help me ... I want to ask you a question ... since I have a mini cooper r50 year 2005 american
Great video. My steering pump is not working, steering wheel feels very heavy. Will this cleaning fix the problem. Thnku.
Thank you. I think the cleaning is pretty important as some pumps failed and may have even caught fire due to the build up of the dust inside.
just did mine, had fluid inside the magnets. hard part was the bolts behind pipes, need long spanner, you can feel where they are.
Hope it all came good for you.
Thanks for this - was wondering if after you cleaned it if the noise went away...?
Thank you for the comment. The noise was still there but when I sold the car the noise went away and I've not heard it since lol
@@CoatsandGaiters Ha ha! I see!
@@Diebaas407 Sorry I couldnt resist as I don't have the Mini's now. No sadly it didn't as I think I needed to get to the brushes themselves and I only partially disasembled it for fear on not getting it back together.
Hi mate just looking at your video do you know if the alternator stops working will let's have a effect on the steering pump just I was driving the other night and my alternator went and at the same time my steering stop working
I'd have thought so as the power steering pump takes a lot of power, once the alternator stops all resources are onto the battery only and whatever charge it has remaining.
@@CoatsandGaiters I will order a new alternator and see if that worked
Hola profe gracias por la cátedra como pudo hacer para importar un bomba de dirección del mini
Thank you. I've only done the jobs on video as I video all my work.
what pump do these cars use, I need to replace mine but there so many on the market
The motor should have a number on. I think they are pretty standard ones though on the R50 like mine. Both my 2001 and 2005 motors look pretty similar.
What happens if the power steering fluid gets to hot will it shut down because there is no heat tape around my pipes
I think the motor is the weak point for overheating.
I changed my pump because mine burned ... I bought a used one But now it makes a shriek when moving the direction, what will be the cause?
I did read about some of the pumps catching fire which concerned me hence I opened it to clean it. Mine shrieks on full lock in either direction. I was under the impression it is caused by the build up of carbon inside the motor and getting onto the electronic circuit board though when I used compressed air on mine I didn't open it to see the circuit board and hoped the compressed air would work. I wonder if changing the fluid would improve things. Personally that's probably the cheapest thing to try first. I'd remove that black cap on the motor and drain as much as possible. Some would still be in the rack but if you got most out you could see if that improves things. Start with the basic first. You could take your old pump totally apart so you can see how it goes together and then maybe try a better clean than I did if the fluid didn't help.
hello friend, disassemble my hydraulic pump to clean it but when disassembling 4 pellets came out but I don't know where they go but I would like to help thanks friend
were they like black rectangle shapes? Try this link www.mini2.com/threads/power-steering-pump-diy.163712/page-2
@@CoatsandGaiters Hello friend, thanks for your answer, I removed the black cap where the oil goes, there is a 12 mm screw, I removed the screw and a small spring came out and three small and one large pellets came out, is that how it goes? or go somewhere else?
The pump will draw a huge power load so your battery will need to be in good shape. The alternator will struggle to supply charge to a worn out battery and the power steering pump............... "Thanks You, I would like to know how the electrical part of the hydraulic pump works, what voltages should it reach and when, because I have a failure in that type of pump, the steering wheel is hard one day and it was perfect the next day it did not start due to low battery, I am afraid that something electronic has been deprogrammed or the pump has failed, thanks you"
Did this fix the fault of heaving steering?
It quietened it down a bit but I didn't get the dust out from the brush area which is where is really accumulates. I was worried about causing too much damage.
When the pum is enty
And You refill again, the pum automatic pass the oil in the líne? ??
The pump pumps the oil constantly through the system I believe.
My power steering falls out when the motor gets hot and I turn the engine off after about 30 minutes I have the power steering back
The American models had cooling fans, these motors are prone to issues
and can I do this repair without pulling the motor?
Yes, you just drain the fluid first and disconnect the power and signal cables and undo the bolts then disconnect the fluid lines.
is there a part no of bushes ??
Which bushes were you after?

The noise is gone?
I don't think I cleaned it enough. I didn't clean where the actual brushes were.
@@CoatsandGaiters It may be a bearing out of lube? Or already gone?
