Throw some points in Art Speciality - get Magical Clay in Krosse, then make "strange objects" until you get Goodie Boxes. Save game, keep opening them until you get something nice and broken like Marvel Sword or Sorceress Gloves
this is what i did, made 10 boxes and saved before popping them open, got some of the best weapons you can lol

Writing has been massively buffed in the remake. Get one person to max out writing and you can get enough skill books to have everyone in your party achieve rank 7 in about 10 different skills. It is almost as important as perseverance.
Yep, Writing completely breaks open IC for you. Once you max it you get nearly every Specialty/Super Specialty, all Support Items, Unlimited Ores, the ability to make Goodie Boxes, etc. All for 0 additional SP. And then it's just a stone's throw away for Contraband and unlimited FOL, and this is before Marze/Harley if you get lucky with Pet Food drops from the Sprite's Bracelet.
Haven't even gone to Krosse Cave yet and already got the Bunny Call, Sword of Marvels, a ton of Fol, and the Thief's Gloves. So happy the remake still allows for breaking it in half for your leisure. Thanks for the guide!

Playing this game for the very first time with the OG with Rena, and will listen to the Arrangement for my Claude playthrough. It's wonderful. Right up there with Uematsu/Mitsuda/Meguro. It just is.

Effort is more than just reducing exp needed for next level. It’s required for Training; more EXP per battle, and Enlightenment; more SP and BP. The higher these levels the bigger to boost, which you need to level effort for.
Also to save on SP, use one character to max writing specialty then create books for others. It will save you about 20k SP per character
so how would you prioritize your sp?
@@arsenichell that depends on what the player wants to do. But how I go through my plays of SO2 are:
Max Determination, then focus on unlocking talents for bonus SP. After that level Writing for one character who then create books for other characters. After that I make each character fixate toward an IC Specialty so that you got your IC bases covered. Just try to get a role for each character and go down that path.
@@shaifs5072 okay im in the town fishing to get fol for the thieves glove. celine is my writer and alchemist. got claude and rena to be my chefs for masterchef. also got the bunny familiar.
Can Welch not use train? I can turn it on for everyone but her and shes pretty high in it
@@statesminds do you have all the skills for it? It requires Effort, Determination, and Resilience. On the improve menu there is a button for ‘Switch Upgrade’ on PS it’s square, this will level all the skills of a specialty at once.
I'd argue that the Sprite Bracelet has been nerfed somewhat - You get barely any low-tier items every now and then. I actually got more use out of the reworked "Survival"-skill in comparison. But until we get a new item-list of what the Sprite Bracelet generates I guess it remains the same old "want to grab, because why not".
Still, feels like the item might be highly overrated, especially with all the new QoL changes that makes FOL a non-factor.
If I'd have to give hints/tips to newer players I'd recommend grabbing the "Deadly Edge" after the Lacour-tournament. It's a "must-have" if you 'actually' want to break the game early.
tl;dr, if you customize the "Deadly Edge" with Claude with a Mithril, you should get a "Blade Of Minos", customize this one with a Mithril again and you get the Aeterna for Claude which is en par with 2 of the weapons from the bonus-dungeon.
The other hint would be to actually teach everyone "Train" ASAP in order to unlock "Enlightenment" for everyone, which gives you more BP and SP per level up and battle. It'll save you a lot of time later on, which in turn let's you sooner invest into power-stat when you actually need them.
Due to the Achievement-system and other QoL-changes the game gives you plenty of goodies and items to make the early part of the game very easy and comfortable to play, so I reckon you are better off making some early investments for the later stages of the game.
Oh, and you can absolutely level up all your active combat-skills. They barely cost anything to upgrade most of the time and you get pleeenty of BP to play around with. It's actually recommened even for casters because a lot of spells simply get new properties which make them quite useful throughout the game, so don't hesitate.
Good advice. Although I can confirm I have been getting counterfeit medals at a pace that's on par with the psp version. Hope that helps.
I want the game to be a challenge not a cakewalk personally. I remember the game being super easy outside of a couple bosses

@@sharebear421 so far the games been kinda oddly changes in terms of stats, the one monster boss you fight near the end of disc one was a hell of a lot beefier than I remember even using Aeterna. It's still game breaking but I'm curious how hard of a fight it would be playing through without getting Aeterna/Battle suits and some other somewhat mid-kinda lateish power weapons. I'd be interested to know how you fare against him, though not sure how to translate it since your probably a lot better at the gameplay than I am.

I fucking love this game so much. I love how you can just get busted powerful just by knowing how to play the game. And this was before things like "gameplay balance" were concrete, when you would swap stories with your friends on the playground about the crazy shit you can do. It's crazy how old stuff is coming back and beating the shit out of modern stuff. Like even that new Beatles song is straight fire

Scouting is a good skill too, especially if you want to attract more monsters and build up experience faster.
There's another super skill where you can sacrifice your fol to get extra BP and SP.

Star Ocean 2 where you steal the best rare items from randos and NPCs to save the world.
You know, it took me about 8 hrs to figure out this system even 2%. I’m loving it. Excellent tips here! I’ll have to use them on the NG+ playthrough
A good skill combo is Training, Enlightenment, Bodyguard, Scouting, and Survival. Training and Enlightenment will help level faster. Scouting will spawn mobs at an absurd rate. Bodyguard will allow your companions to just run over and kill them without a fight if they're high enough level. And Survival will give free items as you wander and spawn mobs. Just chain battle all the enemies that won't instant die. Doing this, I'm level 52 and I just got to the Lacour Castle on the second continent.
All great advice! In addition to what David said, you want to make sure your character starts with the talent nimble fingers, if they don't have it, restart. You can't learn that talent until after the earthquake in Clik, so you can't get that amazing sprite bracelet he mentions, or it's insanley hard to (less then 1% to pickpocket I believe). Another great item to steal is the goodie box in Marze. Gives you three random items including one really powerful sword. That's another save scum situation.
Also, right after the intro story with Claude and Rena, you can get a lot of money even earlier in that little dessert patch west of Lasgus Mountains area (hope it's still there). There are strong enemies there but they drop high level metals you can sell for a ton, and gain twenty levels in the process. By the time you get to Lingua you have enough money to start (and hopefully high enough group skills for reverse side) to start forging experience medals, then copying them using replication and magic film, while playing the violin song under muscal talent for increased accuracy, and copy 20 at a time. You can get to level 100 right away. Im not to this point yet so don't hold me to it, was in the previous versions.
I got nimble fingers for Rena just by cooking over in krosse castle. Took less than a minute

@@kcmac9298there are other ways to obtain goodie boxes now. I actually got 2 before I even reached Marz. One is a mission to get 10% item encyclopedia. The other I identified not entirely sure where I got it. You can also buy them through the new fishing skill.

A quick money makers for the thief gloves for me was fishing the marlin in the sea, every 3 can be sold for 10k and there is a fishing spot right outside town where they are sold!

Thanks! Managed to do this within one hour. Make sure to have your character start with nimble finger stat at the beginning of the game. If not restart game until main character has it to make pickpocketing chances higher. 😊
I disagree.. I would start to NOT have it. Yes it boosts success however, if you level crafting to 1 just keep crafting and they will learn it. BOOM free 100 SP and BP every new talent discovered.

If you have enough cooking skill and bunny call you can create a magnificent hare feast. The downside is you no longer have your ride.

I don't know if you talked about this yet but at the same has you are talking about. You get a ''goodie box'' those box can also be created via Art - Magical clay. Save your game and open those box because you get random item and weapon. I got a Force sword just now. This is a trick that was in the previous star ocean 2 on ps back in the days

I made the 40k to buy the gloves pretty fast by fishing. There's a colorful fishing spot with an exploration trigger that can get you rare fishes I could sell for 11k each and most being worth between a few hundreds and a thousand ish
I knew something was "off" about Effort the last time I played through the PsP version . I researched online AFTER getting it to 10 with 3 of my main characters very early 😮 and realizing after the initial boost it seemed like it was back to normal.
I don't know just how big of a difference Training makes, but I feel like you level very quickly in this game anyway/the game quickly ramps up the XP you gain. Though Enlightenment seems to make a big difference through most of the game, and there's something so satisfying about spending your SP 😊.
Just started this game last night, and I've been really impressed. A little slow to start, but I love the customization.
If you need money, without spending too much skill points, I would advise to just fish and sell the big fishes from the ocean right outside Harley town. Use small fish for baits, use the item that double your number of fishes caught, get the big ones, sell them for 4k or so. Takes 10min top, maybe even less. Will also get you fishes to trade for items, and complete achievements for easy money.

You saved my ass from a few pitfalls. First, I was pouring tons of points into effort. Second, I felt an obligation to spend BP on special arts/skills even tho I felt it unwise since they keep learning better stuff as they level up. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and also setting me straight on “effort.” Top notch video!
It is advisable to put at least one level into Effort to unlock Training (more exp) and Enlightenment (more SP/BP earned)
Small amounts that *really* add up during the many hours that you'll be putting into the game.

How to make a lot of money in the first 4 hours:
Get master chef super specialty -> combine seafood + fruit -> eat Sole in Wince Sauce -> make cheap food until you get nectar -> sell nectar -> profit $$$$$$

Pickpocket for the camera, familiar to buy film, and grab some of the items from the pirates and other thugs (or the occasional crooked innkeeper) is a nice start too.
A little bit of effort is lovely, because you can use training. Don't spent more then 100 on each person though, it ain't worth it. And only buy one per level.

yeah, good warning David about the effort skill. It is best used for the last levels before the final boss, just like in star ocean 1.
It basically speed up leveling up THAT level you are on. And when grinding takes a lot of time, then it is useful, so in other words- towards the very end.

My money farming for the first part was via goodie box and cooking. Cooking eggs and veggies will usually let you gain a profit especially with group appraising. Sell price of accessories are way lower in the remake and you will not gain profit via crafting.
