In my humble opinion... Hands down, Shen's Last Gift brought the best soundtracks to XCOM 2! This piece in particular really stuck with me, long after I finished watching Odd's Let's Play of the DLC mission. There's frenetic danger; an urge to run. But there's also hope; a motivation to keep going. That's what I felt from listening to this.
I still can't believe a fourth faction and Chosen in War of the Chosen got scrapped due to time constraints. Seeing Julian leading a resistance faction would have been awesome.
@@xtxownage yeah it was supposed to be a grenadier type Chosen and the faction heroes would have been androids kind of like the ones in Chimera Squad. I'm surprised no one has modded it in
I remember mention of this, and there was some evidence to support it but I think three was enough, not to mention, cerntinely with the later missions you get more and more Op as you face scripted events (final mission for example) as you have a squad with more abilities than in the original version.
I hope that if they make an XCOM 3 game where humanity travels in space to take the fight to ADVENT on their home-world and liberate planets from the Elders grip. You then encounter various alien races you never heard or encountered before and you're able to recruit them to be a part of your fire-team. Plus with more epic music and DLC's...
That moment when your evac plan is screwed up by Shen evac'ing meaning that her hacked MEC goes back to hostile, forcing you to have to leave the SPARK back with your two rangers to hold the tide, then evacuating one ranger and the SPARK, until finally your last ranger dashes for the elevator to escape as the MECs are closing in in a tide of metal and bullets.
The turret run was easily the hardest part of the level. The near-constant supply of turrets, followed by the kamikaze MECs later on can really screw you over if you forgot to reload or Shen's abilities are on cooldown.
And now, after playing through Mass Effect 2 again as an Infiltrator, I wish there was a mission like this in that game. Man, Infiltrator Shepard, Tali, and Legion versus a bunch of poorly armored Ymir mechs? That would be crazy! That would be awesome! ...wait...there's no Sectopod equivalent in Mass Effect 2. Now I wish this mission was in that game even MORE. I wanna fight a giant robot!
Just played it a few days ago - it was really early in my campaign and every fight was just a brutal firefight and not knowing what was coming next, and then the realization that the final people going up the elevators meant i wouldn't have the firepower to deal with the MECs for the last 2-3 people. This music just made that last turret run absolutely the most epic battle in the game for me, and i managed to kill Viper King in his cave so it really did have an energy well beyond what the rest of the game could convey for me.
Yeah, I played this mission very early while Iron man was enabled. I thought there are only 2 levels in this mission, so I used almost all my special abilities and explosives on turrets. And then the sectopod appeared on the top of the facility roof... :-D With my primitive weaponry, I had almost no chance to penetrate sectopods armor. I don't know how, but all my squad made it. :-D Cool mission. ... Few (game) months later... The Berserker queen made me fail couple of missions and killed all my good soldiers. So bye, game over. :-D Next try, I will not start Viper King mission unless I have at least magnetic weapons for all my soldiers.
The Berserker Queen didn't give me too much trouble - spamming debuff grenades works very well. The Archon King i lucked out on so much i still can't really believe it. It caught me with my entire squad moving between cover on a train hack mission so it SHOULD have absolutely wrecked my best squad. Instead, my secondary Grenadier manages a ONE SHOT EXECUTION with Repeater on overwatch when it lunged at us. I retired him immediately after. He was going to survive the war no matter what. AH, THIS GAME. So many memories - SO MUCH HAPPEN.
Its most interesting concepts in xcom. Artificial intelligence made for protect a girl. That ai grow up and learn using own devices for protect other members in squad.

This music fits the scene, running through a automated mechafort with your new spark prototype. I did it early and almost didn't get thru, my gunslinger held the line while the others ran to the elevators
Absolutely epic, very fitting for the level. Usually I've gone around one of the side paths to get to the lifts, and it's always been a challenge. My most recent playthrough I instead parked my squad at the front of the safe room, and took out the 4 turrets at the far end. Then I blew an Overdrive on the SPARK, and rushed for the vent controls in 1 move. Once the gas was clear I just booked it through the center of the room. I completely ignored the turrets spawning at the sides and back of the safe room, though I had to take out some on one of the side walkways. That strategy seemed to work pretty well.
What I didn't understand about this mission was why XCOM didn't try to install a program of their own to re purpose the (junk but still) robots for their use. If there's thousands or more of those things in storage, even with as weak as they are it'd be an incredible waste to just leave them there!
@@peterdavis9760 Diversion. Imagine being an Advent trooper and you just hear a lot of clanking and robot noises. Figuring it's just some of your Mecs, you watch as a whole GODDAMN MEC ARMY comes around the corner, with XCOM logos stensiled onto them. They then open fire on any Advent in the area, in essence creating a reverse terror mission with an endless horde of XCOM commandeered Mecs. Meanwhile, just up the road at the facility, the actual strike team is just waltzing into a facilty and planting X-4.
@@phoenixmarktwo but you have to repair them and 1 elerium cell power . You need to kill one sectopode per robot . Still i feel bad for them and Julian. He just want to kill aliens. So i always use his voice pack. And anyways your sparks are broken powerfull. No fatigue , heavy weapons, Infinite overwatch, 3 turns. Armor pierce. I prefer a full party of sparks than old robots that don even pierce a sectopod armor.
The reason why he's two feet away from the turret is because there's something call glitch-19 (Basically just covid 19 but robots could catch it.) And the spark doesn't want glitch-19 from that decaying turret now does he?
Julians corruption aside, as well as being a "no-feelings ai". To me, the music is filled to the brim with pent up frustration and anger. The song being a minor counterpart to Xcom's motif (one example would be the end credits from ew). The lone echoing calling out, kicking in 0:17, clouded in the drum-beats of anger. The abandoned son of xcom. Changing to Julians perspective makes it way more tragic.
Now if only I could mod Julian's Sectopod to be a real boss fight instead of being dead easy (I use RPGO, so all of my characters are godlike heroes). Here are some things I'd do: - Drastically increase Julian's HP, Armor, and Damage. - Give Julian immunity to stun and immunity to being hacked. - Give Julian access to Ruler Reactions. It's the latter two that I don't know how to do.
Its so hard , even whit the handicap they give him . I mean its a sectopode. But him doest do the 18 damage a normal sectopode do. I remember he almost killed my spark. You can explode the tanks but they do like 8 hp , shen have like 20% to control him. So its an all or nothing accion. Or 50 to 60 stun one turn. If you have a team full of 4 guys whit just the secon skill they have so little aim and do like 3 to 5 damage. He has like 55 hp at early . And almost 90 to 120 hp at full. Iff you have a reaper by waiting then ofcourse any enemy its dead. You can use reaper and shoot 7 times ( repeater 20% insta kill) puff . and if you have 2 uff easy. But that of course its imposible in the first weeks wen this quest appears.
nothing better than stick a superior scope and pick up the perk who eliminate the aim penalty on the Spark.
