  • For our first video of 2021, we go down a road I found on google maps in Brookline, NH called Hutchinson Hill Road. It's one of New Hampshire's many Class VI roads, which are basically formally built and unmaintained roads. They're typically in various states of disrepair depending on how much traffic they get and are very popular in the winters for snowmobiles.

    @4:25 That's NOT a bypass. Once you are off the road you are trespassing on power line property and the power companies DO prosecute. ALL POWERLINES ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY. Some states allow travel on power line access trails, NH DOES NOT. Last I checked its usually a $1000 fine.

      Good to know. I've pinned this so others can learn from my mistake. Definitely seemed like just an alternative route but totally see what you mean after re-watching and seeing the overall layout.

      All due respect to my Taco friends (and I do like this low key no hype channel so no dis to it either), but Hutch Hill aint "offroading." It's just a dirt road. So much so OnX rates parts of it as safe for passenger cars 😊. No doubt your stock Taco is capable but this leisurely dirt road drive does not evidence that.

    • @David-or4ji
      @David-or4ji 4 місяці тому

      I wouldnt try this with a jeep wrangler stock or a any car. Some water 18-20 inches deep. If you haven’t been you have to see it in perso; not what onX rates it. Everything looks easy on UA-cam

    • @oldgrunt5569
      @oldgrunt5569 4 місяці тому

      @@David-or4ji i've driven this many times. the onx was an example. water is transient. been offroading for 30 years. don't need to be told that youtube aint IRL. my (rather obvious) point is that this road is not a proving ground for a vehicle's capability and thinking it is is dangerous. get false confidence here and then take that false confidence and stock taco to somewhere like the rock garden in unity with 4 foot off cambers, and you're gonna have some serious problems.

    I just did this road both ways today on my bike. Conditions were about as dry as you could hope for, no standing water anywhere. For anyone considering going up this hill (south to north) in a 4WD, you will want locking diffs: lots of loose and slippery rocks.

    Also the list you published of C6 roads was compiled from ENH over a decade ago. It is wicked outdated and will get people potentially arrested for trespassing and for several of the roads will get hostile confrontations from abutting landowners. The accurate way to identify status of roads is to talk to the town road agent using the town road map or tax map.

    you're going to fast over some of the rocks / obstacles .. shift into low range sometimes, crawl a little slower as not to risk damage and make the video smoother and we could see a little better. win-win what's the big hurry ?

    • @NorthWoodsOverland
      @NorthWoodsOverland  Рік тому +1

      You're not wrong, especially in situations that are more challenging or a higher risk of damage. I didn't feel either on this road and drove at a speed I felt comfortable. May be too fast for some, may be too slow for others. The meh video is actually a result of my post processing and using too low of a bit rate. But this was an early video before I got new cameras and learned more about my editing software I use. I really appreciate the feedback though.
