  • In September 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a requirement that the Boxed Warningand other sections of benzodiazepine drug products’ labeling be updated to provide a more comprehensive description of risks related to nonmedical use, addiction, physical dependence, and withdrawal reactions. Benzodiazepine nonmedical use is widespread, andindividuals frequently co-use benzodiazepines with alcohol, prescription opioids, and illicit drugs. Associated harms of benzodiazepine nonmedical use are substantial but occur primarily when people use benzodiazepines in combination with other drugs. This two-day public workshop will convene regulators, academic researchers, clinicians, patient advocates, and other stakeholders to share information underlying this action and gather input related to the safe use of benzodiazepines. Participants will discuss epidemiological and abuse liability data, patient and clinician perspectives and experiences, and gaps in data and understanding about the safe use of benzodiazepines.

      I got back on benzos
Why suffer, we got on them for a reason in the first place?
What happens when you stop taking them of course your anxiety comes back 4 fold, that's why you don't stop...

I went suicidal almost overnight CT from 10 yr. xanax prescribed as sleep aid. I never knew of the risk from PA who advised me to stop and substitute SSRI. This is criminal and when I complained the doctor cancelled me. I am still not back to normal after 4+ years. At 75, I hope I get there before I die. Chronic episodic eye-forehead tension. At least I want to live again.

I was put on benzos for panic disorder and left on them for years and years. I am currently at the end of a five year taper /withdrawal plan to get off slowly and hopefully not cause myself too much misery from the withdrawal. It wasn’t pleasant, but I know others who have suffered much worse, but usually people try to get off of them much too quickly. That’s what causes so much misery. While I feel benzos can be useful for severe anxiety or panic disorder, the patient much learn other coping techniques such as CBT and get off the benzos as soon as they possibly can.

I think Xanax made me depressed. I have brain issues decades later and the neurologist said my history it may contribute to these current issues but cannot tell the degree.
Everyone who writes a prescription for Xanax needs to warn and lengthen the discontinue process.
I tell everyone it made be depressed and whatever you are told to discontinue do twice the recommendation.

I’ve never seen any reports or literatures of rupture of tendons and ligaments due to muscle wasting induced by benzodiazepines, but I tore many muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Yep. I tore my knee twice. Once at the end of my taper and then when I was two years off. I got tardive dystonia after coming off Klonopin. I got tardive akathisia too, both which make your muscles and tendons tear. I’m 41 mths off and crippled in nerve pain as well.

Three times per month. If it were Klonopin, it would be about three. If you get over 6 times you are flirting with disaster. 8-9x/mth cost me a major injury when I let it run out.

@@fonzarellyplay370I am the same way. It’s been a life saver for me. I’m currently taking .5 mg morning and .5 mg at night. My psychiatrist said it was only for temporary use 7 years ago but I was taking 2 mg and when I quit the withdrawals were awful. 5 years later my primary care physician put me back on the low dose of .5 mg. I haven’t needed to increase it. I’m 60 and don’t plan to try to quit anytime soon.
