I went suicidal almost overnight CT from 10 yr. xanax prescribed as sleep aid. I never knew of the risk from PA who advised me to stop and substitute SSRI. This is criminal and when I complained the doctor cancelled me. I am still not back to normal after 4+ years. At 75, I hope I get there before I die. Chronic episodic eye-forehead tension. At least I want to live again.

I know this is from a couple of years ago, but I had some thoughts as to why the elderly don't seem to struggle with withdrawal. Many elderly patients are simultaneously taking Gabapentin, which, although is supposedly active in Gaba A receptor inhibition, likely affects the not yet fully understood (perhaps an understatement) Gaba system, including the Gaba B receptor implicated in Benzodiazepine action and subsequent withdrawal. Additionally, as we see rising numbers of "The Dementia Spectrum", as I'll take the liberty of calling it, this may be partially the result of Benzodiazepine withdrawal, interdose withdrawal AND tolerance, for which, they may be told to increase the Gabapentin. As Gabapentin also is used to deal with Neuropathies, which are also signs of tolerance/withdrawl, these may be mitigating the identification of problematic withdrawal. As mentioned, the elderly who stop Benzos, "may experience less falls", as there are many reasons that the aged fall. The average elderly person is also, generally speaking, extremely poly-medicated at this point in our culture's history. Considering the complexity of the human body, not just its complicated nature, it would be damn near impossible to ascertain, in a poly-drugged consumer, what is a new problem caused by other reasons, what is a new problem caused by a medication or some combination of medications, and it seems, nobody is really considering it. We continue to have new names for "new symptoms or clusters of symptoms", yet the etiology, if solely pharmacological, would be right under the noses of those who continue to create new medicines, and the FDA, who continues to approve them, and subsequently black box or recall 1:3 consumer medications. I'm stuck on a Benzo, and attempting to taper off, and this one medicine's pamphlet is one hell of a read, and the clearly non-empirically sound takes I hear from differing doctors is staggering. I saw that a Kennedy was warning of the dangers of this class in 1975 to Congress or Senate (likely subcommittee). Truly staggering that the reductionism used to "study" these things, is not expanded to back to the Gestalt, PRIOR to taking action. I do appreciate the information offered, and the compassion I sensed from most of the speakers; thank you. I am angry to be in this situation, and to realize that THIS epidemic is barely on a radar yet, but will make the Opioid Crisis look minuscule in comparison. State of Florida's recommendations are all 30-day detox facilities. Smh (unrelated to my withdrawal at the moment).

That's very important information. I took one full bar before work at 7 PM the night before. I woke up to to 2 gabapentin's. And some kratom Man, I'm telling you they sent me.home😅 Don't remember nothing. How embarrassed I'm back at work? But nobody talks to me. Thank you. It's kind of snicker when they walk you okay. Alright, are you okay? Are you okay all day is what I hear from last week? And I have no idea what I did in that office that day. But nobody's talking about it now. All I know is never take a bar at night and something in the morning. Except beckoned to be on it for taxh support at work. The next day start out at home with 1/4 and manage yourself while you're at home with no keys to go anywhere. In your shorts in bed, do not leave your house for your testing andtolerance levels before you start. Assuming you can actually go to work and get something done. Find your exact dose. Have the discipline to stay within that at work. Do not go outside of it or you will be sent home.its important knoe if you kix benzoz wil anytging elwse toy takung very embaring situalion tlyou W I ll havr confront it will acyually be like you wake up in Ja I l wilth abso l yttly not I b I winghois see yougot there

I think Xanax made me depressed. I have brain issues decades later and the neurologist said my history it may contribute to these current issues but cannot tell the degree. Everyone who writes a prescription for Xanax needs to warn and lengthen the discontinue process. I tell everyone it made be depressed and whatever you are told to discontinue do twice the recommendation.

I was put on benzos for panic disorder and left on them for years and years. I am currently at the end of a five year taper /withdrawal plan to get off slowly and hopefully not cause myself too much misery from the withdrawal. It wasn’t pleasant, but I know others who have suffered much worse, but usually people try to get off of them much too quickly. That’s what causes so much misery. While I feel benzos can be useful for severe anxiety or panic disorder, the patient much learn other coping techniques such as CBT and get off the benzos as soon as they possibly can.

Continuing to limit prescription opioid medicine has led to declining and fatal effects from uncontrolled/untreated pain. Have none of you read the stories of the lived experiences from patients denied opioids for severe acute pain in the emergency room, or from chronic pain, and from post-op pain? People are suffering needlessly. It's barbaric, inhumane, and it's absolutely a human rights abuse. Shame on your ongoing anti-patient-in-pain agenda. Patients are suffering. No-one I or my friends know became addicts or started on heroin after we were prescribed legal pain medicine.

Sud pts are master manipulators but cant hide track marks. Burned finger tips another sign usually of crack & meth use. The obvi signs od opioid complications are easy. Stop treating legit pain pts like parolees, or as if sud pts bcuz legit sud pts get empathy but pain pts get hostility. Two years later and look how many have died due to such policies. Prescribing is at a record low, overdoses at a record high, suicides due to pain at a record high, vets dying in droves after being force-tapered. It's damn near criminal for people who don't deal with chronic debilitating pain to even make such choices/policies.
