Awesome! But I’m really a slow learner I’ll probably have to watch your video 15 maybe 20times while I pause n play then rewind a thousand times lol. Hopefully I get it right.
thanks for the links. not many options for a 6x9 comp set, glad i searched for the adaptors. the entire head unit and factory wiring along with amp and all 7 speakers are going in the trash. that i can use almost any 6.5" mid is gonna open up the floodgates for my build options. update 12/5/23: i found a 3 way comp set that will fit perfectly, with a little trimming, that is.. be aware that some comps use a 2.5" midrange in their 3-way set. in this case, im going w/ Morel maximo ultra which is 6.5 midbass, 2.5" midrange, and 1" silk tweet. i found that it's possible to trim the "subaru/toyota tweeter adaptor" (around $11) to fit the 2.5" midrange. once this was done and that little mid was put in the metal bracket where the tweeter comes installed at factory, i was able to surface mount the tweet in the sail panel. this replaced a 2-way system using the CT sounds Meso set that I installed last month.. and omg it's a world of difference. soundstage was raised by a foot. now it sounds as if there is a live band playing on my dashboard! so my system i installed required a complete trashing of that JBL factory garbage, i used 3 way comps in front doors, 6.5 midrange in rear doors, 5 channel amp in back wall, 10" sub in truck box @ back wall, and a 10" android unit for the radio portion. the Joying brand comes w/ all harnesses to wire direct for '15 tacoma, and the factory back up cam also works! took prolly 15 hrs to do all doors and back wall w/ sound deadener and complete wiring, then another few hours to get the comps in the doors, with speaker rings, setting the gains and all that jazz. i see a lot of vids promoting a plug and play type set up, but friends.. if you have the time and resources do the entire system, you will not regret it!
Thanks for your vids. I'm exited. I'm getting those alpine components you recommended along with the metra adapters. Exited to have some high quality sound again. When I was a kid I had 6.5" Alpine type R speakers and they sounded sooooo good along with my subwoofers, unfortunately they went to the junkyard before I could get them out of my car and it's still one of my biggest regrets. Not only did they sound amazing, but the Type-Rs from 20 years ago looked super cool too, they were polished silver with the R in the center and a big fat rubber surround. The new ones have that cone which I guess improves the sound quality which is good, but it just doesn't look as cool and sleek as those old silver dish ones. The Alpine S-S65C are quite a bit cheaper than the type R spec, but I know they will still blow away the stock speakers in terms of sound quality. I wonder how different the S-S65C's really sound compared to the much more expensive type Rs?
Hi i have a 07 extra cab tacoma with 6x9" mids & tweeters in the front doors i have a set of Rockford Fosgate T 1 series coaxial 6×9" speakers. I want to add tweeters and and amplifier to the system. Is this possible?
I installed some new JBL speakers on my 2010 Tacoma, the two front ones work but the rear two keep cutting off. I checked to see if any wires were touching but nothing. Whenever I play music the music plays but then I just cuts off. Any suggestions.
thank you for the video! super helpful. I have a question for you. The resistor inside my crossover broke off, so there is not any signal being sent to the mid-range speaker. Can I replace the crossover with ANY crossover? Or does it need to be the same brand that I have now?
Thanks for the video. Those stock speakers are amazingly weak. My 1989 Hyundai had a better sound system. This is the best upgrade I've ever done on a car.
Nope, typical OEM wiring (in most circumstances) can support up to about 80-100watts RMS before there is a need to pull new, heavier gauge wiring into the door.

i have a 2012 tacoma and this website called “crutch feild” says this exact mount the metra 82-8146 fits but for my jbl speakers it doesn’t need it. i would say check out that website it helps with everything you need and doesn’t sell you one thing but will tell you what to get for it all to work
Does anybody know why the speakers on the bottom of the door would go out but not the tweeters? Both of my bottom door speakers went out at the same time but the tweeters are still playing.
@@ProvoBeastAudio yea I know they can because that’s what happened. But from what I’m reading it would be weird for both bottom door speakers to blow simultaneously right? So my question is does anybody know what would cause both bottom door speakers to stop playing at the same exact time? Is it the head unit or like a blown fuse?
Toyota runs the audio signal from the radio to the harness that the tweeter is plugged into, splits the signal there where one lead goes to the tweeter, and the other lead goes to the midrange speaker in the door. Both speakers are receiving full signal (no crossovers yet), but each speaker is individually crossover internally.
@@ProvoBeastAudio OK you actually did explain that in the video so the four leads that are going into the Twitter harness two of those are for the in on the crossover and the others are for the woofer ? Then plug harness to new woofer and attach new tweeter to crossover ?
Technique, yes. However, the JBL audio system likes to see a 2 ohm speaker, where these speakers are 4 ohm (less sensitive, thus appearing quieter). I'd recommend replacing your JBL speakers with a 2 ohm speaker.
@@_JEBUS If your speaker requires a crossover, you must use it. If not, you risk blowing the speaker because you are sending frequencies to that speaker it cannot handle.
What did you do with the capacitor installed to the factory tweeter ? There are 2 speaker leads going into 4 attaching to a harness and then two going to cap and 2 going to tweeter. Should I retain the harness and just use one + and one - lead for the xover in and the others for the tweeter power.

Wish you showed when you cut the harnesses. Also do you have the part number for just the crossover?
nice video made my decision easier to snip the wires as i already purchased the metra adapter same as you did

Does the crossover absolutely have to be utilized if you have wiring harness adapters for both the tweeters and midrange speakers?

Noticed that you added three different size mounting brackets for the tweeters. Which one did you use for the 25mm (1") tweeters in this kit?
Thanks
Do you have a video on how to replace the factory subwoofer ?
I see you had no issues when closing the cover, how tall do you think is the max a speaker can be to fit in there?
Thanks for the video. Those stock speakers are amazingly weak.
My 1989 Hyundai had a better sound system. This is the best upgrade I've ever done on a car.
Isnt it be easier to replace it with a new 6x9 rather than a 6.5 speaker. Not only, dont 6x9 bump better than 6.5?
Yeah they make a specific 6x9 adapter for the aftermarket magnet
I want to replace the tweeter trim. I got it off, painted it and I cant get it back on
Hey what size screws did you use for the 6 1/2s
if i’m replacing the speakers do i also need to replace the tweeters ?

yes Metra makes adapters for 6x9 too
Can i just install some 6.5 rounds and leave the crossover thats there
You mean leave the tweeter and just install a coaxial in the door? Sure, but you may be selling your self short with audio quality.
