OHMYGOD HEY!
This weekend was a VERY stagey one because I took part in a 24-Hour Musical, a community theatre challenge where a group of amateur performers learn and perform a show just 24 hours after learning what it is.
This year we performed Andrew Lloyd Webber's infamous musical Cats with full costuming, choreography and more than a little concern.

As a tech, I was trying to sleep in a dressing room above the stage when you all started the tap routine around 4am. I thought it was heavy rain! Not much sleep tbh. 😂
Sleeping??? SLEEPING?!?! This is not how you do a 24 hour musical
I love how it's the "young performers edition" I guess it makes sense for the time frame that they had.
If this video doesn't result in a huge viewer increase to the 'Mickey Jo explains Cats' video, it will be a travesty.
The Cats video is hysterical and I rewatch it all the time, it deserves loads more views.

A 24 hour musical is such a fun idea. As an adult with not much free time this would be great. I've done a play in a week and a musical in 2 weeks before.
I would absolutely love to do a 24hr musical, as a working adult it's so hard to fit in long rehearsal processes. Someone near me make this happen!

I agree completely, as stressful as this would be I feel it would be so fun

1) A dubbed and abridged production of CATS on Ice (Jemima)
2) Reading my childhood diaries about CATS on Ice on stage in Portland, OR
3) Reading my childhood diaries about CATS on Ice on stage in Denver, CO

7:00 OMG THAT'S OWEN WHITE! He assistant directed my last musical that I did from January then performed in August, and he's directing my next musical which starts in October!!
I can't think of Cats the same way since a co-worker described it as X Factor but the winner dies lol 🤣

What a brilliant idea but also at the same time terrifying lol I don't think I could have done anything like this in my 14 years of theatre. Having 3 months to learn a show was just about enough time for me. Loved Cats since I saw it during the original run in 1981.
We loved having you in the 24 once again… it’s a tradition now! See you next year!!!

Mickey Jo -- what fun! Your chronicalling your 24-hour CAT adventure reminded me of a similar experience where I had 24-hours to learn the 2nd lead in an original musical production of THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. It was terrifying, enervating and every emotion in-between all at once. I'm glad I did it and I'm glad you got to be in CATS. Meow.

I’m curious how this is cast. Could you share?
hi! i’m the daughter of the director and choreographer and the one running the mics on the sound desk. to answer your question, we spend lots of time going through videos that have been sent from the participants to try and make the cast. it’s a lot of trail and error to see if we can get the right people for the right parts and in the end it is always perfect! i hope this helped :D

In Adelaide (Australia) our Amateur companies have done a few of these as charity fundraisers. We have had: South Pacific, Guys & Dolls, Little Shop, Chicago and Grease.
Im fascinated that you get precast....for ours the cast audition. Only orch and crew know there spots. also we dont sleep over, we go home between midnight and 8am

Actually this could be a gimmick for my LGBTQ choir. Arrive at 8am on Saturday morning and 8pm sing concert from memory. Hmm. It actually sounds like fun.
