- As much as I've been influenced by old time banjo and fiddle players, I've probably been more affected by R&B from the 1960s. This perfect tune falls so nicely on the clawhammer banjo in double C tuning (gCGCD). Written by Joe Zawinul for the Cannonball Adderley quintet. If you've never heard the cut from "Live at The Club" it's one of the best all time live performances captured to tape. Oh how'd I've love to play for that audience :)

Thanks 8^) It's a Gibson Monstertone. I call it a monstertone because I think it has some non-Gibson parts - it's a Frankenstein piece! Apparently the headstock veneer is from a 20s tenor banjo. I think the neck is not Gibson. But I believe the pot is actually a Gibson Mastertone.

Thanks Petr! In the 3rd part I walk up C, E, F, G on the 4th string (just diddying on the open strings) and then slam a hard IV (F) chord and return to I (C) - the part that goes "Have Mercy on Me!" on the version with lyrics. The last part chord progression is ii (Dm), iii (Em7), vi (Am)
