Today I recorded the new 2020 Corvette C8 at the Nurburgring. Chevrolet took four camoflaged Corvette's C8 to the Nurburgring and drove them around. I tried to record the laptimes but sadly enough the Corvettes were not driving constantly and it seems that they had to adjust (Or cool down?) every time after a round on the Nurburgring so know that these are not official laptimes and they currently didnt even try to go for a lap record. Just some fun time figures. Enjoy the video.

Almost all test cars do, I'm from Colorado where companies do a lot of road testing and I've seen Audi test cars that had Michigan plates
Its a good state to test the suspension due to all of the potholes in the roads

Drake Klenz often times concept cars and pre productions are showcased at the American international auto show in Detroit (not for the public) so Detroit is where cars are usually directly imported to. They get registered as a manufacturer car in michigan and receive a michigan plate. It’s not unlikely to see cars being tested with camo all across America. From high altitude climates to extremely hot deserts, most of these cars will be registered in Michigan though just based on the fact that they were imported here originally. Now, what is perceived to be the corvette c8, in Germany, still sporting an American license plate (of the state which GM is home to) just seems to not be coincidental.

Actually it's that weight dry! So it's actually 200-250lbs heavier if you factor in the weight a car this size gains with fluids.
Why is it so heavy I think that's heavy for that car shouldn't it be down around 2,800 lb s?
That base model of 3366 lb comes in at around the same weight as a Porsche 911 (992) and all that for about $70,000.
Just a step up model of the C8 will make it an amazing performance car.

For 60k usd this is bang for bucks. Aluframe, dualclutch,brembo huge brakes, rearmount gearbox. A perfect kitcar start.

With that new speed it would go right back in to the future and front of the line of new models
Wrapping the body around that mid-engine gives it more of a supercar look by default but watching how stiff it is in those corners and hearing that exhaust makes me think that Corvette has finally TRULY reached their goal of transcending the muscle car box by developing a genuinely competitive track car with an American muscle soul.
A few impressions from the video: It corners relatively flat, it whips through the esses, it has a twitchy front end (A good thing if it's not overly responsive), its mid-engine layout shows in the way it handles corners at high speed, it is extremely wide an low from the front, and, although I have no proof other than the way it moves, I think it may be lighter than the current C7, and last, I can't wait to see the finished product!

From what you see now it will be 100# different also for the first 6 months it will be the base model so nothing you are watching will be the real performer so don’t ever base your judgment on some horrible video from UA-cam lol the C7 was way to heavy for a the high end models it’s something corvette did wrong plus they fucked up there auto when everyone else is refining dual clutch auto to beat everyone corvette went backwards something they will crush in the C8 with the dual clutch auto just like the GT500 mustang plus from what I’ve read the C8 will be about 400 pounds lighter then previous model bringing it back to the C5Z weight to be competitive in the super car market .. I say late 2020 or early 2021 the new Z06 is going to beat almost everything on the market for under 125 grand .. I’ve read even the viper is going mid engine for 2022 it’s going to be a crazy future for American super cars

As a person who works on my own cars, mid engine cars are a pain in the ass to work on.

what a ferocious sound, these shifts sound brutal, and this thing really moves. it scorches the ring.

You can get the older models for a really cheap price, and the beauty about these cars is that with regular maintenance and clean driving they're practically immortal. A lot of Corvettes reach 500,000 miles and still run pretty good.
@@TheAprizzle92 thanks for pointing that out. for now you can start looking at the 2010 models as they have depreciated nicely. Wait 10 years and you can probably pick up a 2020 vette for a decent price.

To be fair, the C6 had the nicest ass out of all them, and the C7 had the nicest front. The C8 should have been a combination of the two, not with the Camaro lights.
I'm betting the starting price will be around 60k for the base 1LT and no more than 75k for the 3LT.
The cost of a base C8 probably won't be more than $5k above what a base C7 costs and that's being generous. They are wanting to target the customers of more expensive brands, but at the same time they don't want to alienate their current ones and they would want to keep the "affordable sports car for the average man" reputation that they have. I'm sure that there will be a top of the line, 6 figure cost model like the ZR1, but the lower models will still likely be well under 100k.

yes ! at times there even is a speed limit if you can believe that , and of course we do have noise limitations (well it's germany after all) so they certainly have muffled and muted it somewhat. much like they did with the C7 ZR1 when they ran it in testing on the ring, you could see a crazy exhaust tip contraption on it.

Base model is not, maybe z06 or zr1. It's gonna be powered by a revised Lt1 which there naming Lt2. Horsepower figures are ranging between 480hp to 500.

Funny how its looking more and more like the Acura NSX over time.
Not really, the Corvette still retains many of it's distinct features, with the square rear end, and the wide and low front end. The only difference from say the zr1 to the c8 is that due to the engine placement, the hood is shorter, and the rear is longer. The NSX however, is very round in all of it's features and designs, resembling an economy version of McLaren.

Saw it just the other day traveling East on 32 mile Rd between Richmond MI and 94. Yeah, I double take'd
Saw it again last night traveling East along Anchor Bay between New Baltimore and Algonac. Tried to chase it down but I had to go a different direction. My wife spotted it. Funny, she said, ha did you see that weird camouflage car that went by? So by the time I saw it, recognized the rear end, we were too far behind on a two Lane road
Gonna be honest, imaging the general shape of it without the spyshot wrap, doesn't really look much like a vette, it's massively bulky, dunno, I think some will find the previous one might look better

@@jaymills85 In 1998 I purchased a brand new C5 Corvette, Put a ton of money into it to make it even faster. I loved that car. But lost a ton of money after the big stock market crash and had to sell it for peanuts. Unfortunately I will never be able to afford one ever again.

De-stroke? The outer dimensions of a 4.8 ls and a 7.0 ls are the exact same size! De-stroking would change nothing!
The ZR1 engine has already been determined to be a V6 Twin Turbo like the new Ford GT.

@@john-martin You're 100% correct on the DCT. That was a no brainier. V6 maybe, V8 maybe. It's a test mule. I'd be willing to bet they've been testing both V8 and V6. If I was a betting man I'd guess a small ci V8 TT. But time will tell.
Zora wanted to design a Mid-Engine Corvette for years, but they wouldn't let him. Now ... Finally ... so it IS a Corvette. The designer of all Corvettes was not stuck on the front engine layout.

The biggest knock on the Vette has always been that it's too tail-happy, and unpredictably so. It will be interesting to see if the mid-engine layout will provide more neutral handling. In theory it should, but this IS GM we're talking about....
You also have to remember they created a ZL1 1le which can compete with supercars around a track
@@TheSpartan21029 Even a stock Vette is fast around the track---the problem is that you have to have the skills of a race car driver to keep it from stepping out of line. A good sports car should be able to be driven quickly by an average driver
@@justsumguy2u C7s aren't very tail happy. I believe the one I drove had some sort of torque vectoring. It can rotate but it takes alot of throttle. This C8 looks like a ballet dancer.
@Eddie Black The only thing that matters is the enjoyment level behind the wheel, not actually how fast something is. Mazda's MX-5 isn't fast, but anyone that owns one will tell you it's a blast to drive
@Eddie Black Yes, but sports cars are far more than about going fast, it's about the handling and driving experience. The MG Midget is one of the most iconic sports cars of all time, and it's dreadfully slow. A slower car that you can use 100% of feels far more satisfying to drive than a fast car that's always on the edge

1st generation of the C8, over 400hp and mid engine, now they start working the kinks out, can you imagine this car in 5-10 years with probably 8-900hp stock, better gearbox and suspension.

Corvette should have done this last generation. The Z06 and ZR1 are borderline undrivable to normal drivers without a boatload of driver aids. This car will probably deal with 800hp and make it look easy by comparison.

There is not going to be a twin turbo model unless it is a modified customer version. The Z51 performance package is claimed to have a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds. That combined with the light weight balanced set up will produce some incredible Nurburgring times.

Maybe if they did a performance oriented model, it would be a competitor; but not any model they have now.

Not compared to the Ford gt? Dude the base Vette hits 0-60 in less then 3 secs which guess what... Faster then the gt and besting other cars that cost 500 grand and more. 500 GRAND. The 1/4 is estimated in the low 11s range from a car that costs 60 grand and had less then 500hp. The gt hits it in 10.8-10.9 with 647 and a 500 grand price tag.
Now try and tell me again the Vette doesn't compare. 60 grand car that is close to a car that cost 500 in the 1/4 and BEATS IT 0-60 The gt is a fucking joke. Hell it has the same dial from a ford fusion and the seats can't even be adjusted for Christ sakes for 500 grand. Ford is laughing at the buyers.

I'm glad Chevy finally decided to evolve this superb machine. It's only natural for the corvette to recieve the mid engine configuration, since it's already a super sports car. Can't wait to see the finished car.
Hopefully we'll see an all wheel drive version with 1000 or more Horsepower

They basically pushed the front-mid engine platform as far as it could go, so they switched to midengine
