    Final Fantasy 16 is one of my favorite games ever. Sure, it gets praise for its incredible fights and incredible action sequences, but for me it's the characters and personal relationships that really make it great.

    Best scene personally was the Joshua/Clive flashbacks near the end - where it shows the 'accolade' where he's first gifted the Phoenix powers (and throws him a protective wink) and then it flashes back even further to him welcoming him as a baby sibling, it was so beautiful.

    Clive is probably my favourite FF main character. Usually the MC is more of a blank slate. Clive is in every way the driving force behind the story. So well acted by Ben too, really put huge amounts of emotion into the performance.

    • @john_7000
      @john_7000 7 днів тому

      I don't mind blank slate what are u talking about, and I love Clive as much as the next guy, he is my favorite character, but for an rpg I prefer a blank slate so I can role play but with Clive I don't have room to role play as Clive got his own shit, and that my biggest complaint with the game, they don't give me a time to role play and be the main character they designed Clive as not an rpg protagonist but just a normal video game protagonist, and I think ff16 missed the mark there it was so obsessed of being a movie that it forgot it is a video game a role playing video game at that, like with cloud for example even though he also have his own shit but I can role play as him as there some blank slate to him which I love, cloud is the perfect rpg protagonist cuz there is a room for me to be in his shoes, while Clive is just his own character, like I said I love Clive but he doesn't work as an rpg protagonist.

    Definitely needed to be a longer episode. There was a lot y'all didn't get to. No discussion about the gigabro Dion. No shout outs to Goetz, Charon, or Blackthorn.
    Now to actually talk about the game. The beach scene was my favorite. Wild to think the years that went by since they were sleeping next to each in Murdoch's barn, and nothing ever happened between them till that point. But it was a beautiful scene. Superb acting. Second fav is ofc the Byron seeing Clive again for the first time. Do feel like Joshua's scene with Byron felt a little throwaway, like "Oh hey, Joshua's alive too. That's cool."
    Still gotta play the dlcs. Guess it's better to just reload my first playthrough to play those?

    now i'm 99% certain that Jill was pregnant, named the child Joshua and he who wrote the book "Final Fantasy" about his father journey 🤯.
    that's the only possibility if both Clive and Joshua are dead, if you say Jote and the undying wrote the book under Joshua name, i will say they never refer to Joshua by his name and only use Lord Margrace.
    and base on the ending there are too many clues about Jill being pregnant :
    1. WHY SHOW CLIVE AND JILL NAKED for 10 min and in the next morning she lean in on Clive as she walk slowly ?
    2.after the moment "Clive dies" the camera cuts to the hideaway, a woman gives birth and the camera focus on Jill as she smiling like she also is pregnant.
    3. the two kids in the post credit cutscene looks like Young Joshua and Clive and the dog looks like Torgal ?, it make you think that they are descendant of Clive- Jill and the dog descendant of Torgal.
    * this is not in the game, but the song by Kenshi Yonezu - Tsuki Wo Miteita / Moongazing, if you look at the video it start by showing a couple saying goodbye (i spouse that to be Clive and Jill saying goodbye), and in the end they show women pregnant with twins.
    if you watch Yoshi-P and Yonezu talk about Moongazing, they talk about how they want the song to capture the ending in a hopeful way.
    it make you think coming from Yoshi-P directly that this is the true intended ending for FF16.

    • @Taima
      @Taima 24 дні тому

      Yo that's crazy, somehow I've never once seen someone propose the idea that Jill was pregnant. But at the same time, this sounds more like a UA-cam theory type thing than something that would have actually happened. What are the supposed numerous clues of it?

    • @kjh4496
      @kjh4496 24 дні тому +1

      It’s implied Joshua was revived at the cost of Clive’s life. That’s what his “terms” were.

    • @karelh8858
      @karelh8858 19 днів тому +1

      I've seen this theory mentioned a couple of times but I just think it'd be really weird for Jill to name their kid Joshua. I mean, if Joshua died and Clived survived, yeah I could definitely see them naming a son in honour of his brother, but why on earth would Jill choose Joshua's name for their only child if Clive died alongside him?
      At a stretch, I could see it in a "this is what Clive would've wanted" way, but I'd still consider it weird. Or I guess if she had twins I could see a case for Clive and Joshua. But we're getting into some pretty far-fetched territory here. Basically, at that point all bets are off and we might as well just choose to believe that all three of Dion, Joshua and Clive survived. Because why the heck not?

    After the Last of Us Part 2 came out, two episodes of Gamescast were released: one was a normal Spoilercast, and then the next week was a roundtable with Ashley, Johnson, Troy Baker, and Neil Druckmann.
    I feel that this video is much more in line with the latter, while missing a lot of core ingredients that were in the former, such as in-depth discussions of story arcs, a group discussion of important moments, and how the game felt to play near the end. The focus was on Ben and almost exclusively Ben's perspectives and experiences, while I was hoping to hear a greater level of depth on things like the Titan and Bahamut fights, Barnabas and Ultima as characters, and even how late game ability sets felt. (Were character builds with spoiler-blocked abilities such as Bahamut and Shiva even mentioned?)
    I understand that many of you played the game a year ago and haven't touched it even for the DLC since, but I hope that we do get a proper spoilercast one day, as this wasn't it for me.

    WHAT I LOVE ABOUT FF16 SO CHOOSE YOUR OWN ENDING WITHOUT REPLAYING THE GAME :
    the ending as first look you can say Clive did the ultimate sacrifice and save the world, but if you add the side quests at the end with Jill and the flowers scene, her line to Clive is literally the game end scene without "the coming back" : "no matter how terrible the night dawn will always come, and that you will alyas come for me, Clive", the game end scene is Jill see the red star stop glowing start running crying all night then sunrise and she stop crying and then smile, so you can fill in on why she smiling based on your interpretation.
    AND the post credit cutscene with the book, if you add harpocrates side quest with Dion "A Tail to Tell", you can say that Clive wrote the book under Joshua name to honor his memory like he took Cid name...
    other things i like to mention :
    A - it was Barnabas who sent Benedikta head to Kupka and made it apears that Cid did it, so it was not Annabelle.
    B - in the end when Clive tell Jill "i will come back, i promise"" then add i" love you", then Jill take her time and say "i know before the i love you back", BECAUSE she knows that he is lying about the part "coming back", if you pay attention during the cutscene with Uncle Byron in the middle of the game when he said to Clive "you always being a a terrible liar" and Jill said it's "not untrue", she knows when Clive tell the truth and not.

    It's very interesting reading the comments. I respect everyone's opinion, but it's not the experience I had. I thought 60% of the story was really good, and the rest was pretty bad and/or derivative. I also got bored of the combat after about 4-5hrs.
    I think it's definitely better than FF15, but I much prefer what they did with Rebirth design wise. I want that to be the future of how FF games are structured, as opposed to this.
    I don't think I can ever get behind a FF game all focused on one person. The party has always been one of the key pillars of the series to me, and the "white guy savior plus supporting cast" dynamic really held the story back in my opinion. That and the obnoxious use of times skips. Really just the second one, it was so arbitrary

    I have to admit, this was a pretty terrible spoilercast. It was more of a sit down with the lead VA (which isn't bad) but with the gloves coming off they hardly talked about anything relevant in the game. What did they think when Joshua actually was alive? What was there thoughts of Ultima's ACTUAL goal of getting the remnant in Joshua to them and the brothers realizing they were duped? Why didn't they discuss more of Anabella's betrayal and that she was used by Ultima who was disguised as her son? Etc. To wait a year to hardly dig deep and share their thoughts if the game as a whole (not just who they liked and music) is very disappointing and shouldn't be called a spoilercast

    FF16 story has same problem with lots of jrpg and maybe some anime. They don't do main thing main thing. The story starts like something else and after that that main thing reveals. Since that main thing reveals very late in the story it is usually very undercooked. For the FF16 it started as politics between nations, but it ended up Ultima orchestrating everything. And tbh those parts were really boring. Both Ultima and holder of Odin Eikon (I forgot his name) was quite disappointing. I wish they focused on politics and make it more fleshed out. Even that part was quite undercooked.
    This is a problem with Japanese narration I think. Most of the jrpgs I played have that problem. For an anime since they have 600 episodes they have every opportunity to develop every layer but for game I am assuming they are running out of budget.
    For example if you look at God of War 2018, Kratos and his son has very clear goal. And entire story develops around that goal. As a result even if you guess ending somehow, you don't care it because journey is the first class citizen not the destination. Simple story, complex characters, deep lore. Personally I prefer this kind of story telling.
    Also this is my personal thing, I really dislike ambitious endings that left for audience's interpretation. Ending was left sour taste in my mount.

    • @AREAlhero
      @AREAlhero 24 дні тому +6

      Quite bold to proclaim a blanket statement like "a problem with Japanese narration" and cite long anime, which is less than 1% of all anime. Especially when you cite God of War as an example of good game writing, when it is anything but. Sony makes Marvel movie stories, with a single two-dimensional character, a bunch of one-dimensional supporting casts. God of War is perhaps complex to maybe a 10 year old, but to a grown adult? Absolutely amateurish.
      I personally prefer my video games to present interesting worlds and scenarios, and not be C-tier movies. As an audience, we deserve better than schlock.

    • @kjh4496
      @kjh4496 24 дні тому +3

      Well almost everything about FF16 is actually a love letter to FF12 as Yoshi P absolutely loves Yasumi Matsuno and his Ivalice world which is more grounded and gritty.
      There’s not much “Anime” in FF16 compared to other FF games like FF7R.

    • @hododod246
      @hododod246 24 дні тому

      @@AREAlhero I was talking about mostly video games not anime. Also God of War 2018 is gold standard for story writing in video games. One of the very few game that does the story in video games right without sacrificing the gameplay. Cringy Marvel story is God of War Ragnarok. If God of Ward 2018 Kratos is two dimensional character, Clive doesn't have dimension at all.

    • @AREAlhero
      @AREAlhero 24 дні тому +4

      @@hododod246 "Is the gold standard for story writing in video games" in much the same way that Boss Baby is for movies; it isn't. You really need to branch out into other games with far superior story telling, like any of Kotaro Uchikoshi's penned works. Further more, not only does Clive have dimension - and it is wild to say otherwise on a podcast where the voice actor is describing how much dimension he put into the performance - he has infinitely more dimensions than Kratos ever has and will have. A literal coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb moment.

    • @hododod246
      @hododod246 24 дні тому

      @@AREAlhero Giving example from Kotaro Uchikoshi and comparing with God of War show that you have no clue what you are talking about. I played lots of Kotaro Uchikoshi games. They are narrative driven games with minimal gameplay. And in a game like that story telling is much easier because overall pacing is driven by the story of game. If you look at game play heavy game like God of War 2018 there are lots of moving parts contributing the overall pace of the game. Level design, combat encounters, boss battles, lots of puzzles, progression, exploration. Telling a story is much difficult for these type of games and lots of game fails to do that like FF16, so overall story needs to be created and paced according. Games like AI and Zero escape series are much much different that game like God of War. To begin with in God of War you can actually walk to the direction you want.
      And pacing of FF16 is just bad. Highs are too high and lows are too low. And after the baha fight it is just off the rail because of the reasons I explained.
      I think you should branch out. Writing convoluted story is not ultimate way of story telling. There are many other ways. Stop being weeb edge lord, read and play stuff outside off from Japan.
