I’m thrilled you had Ben on here!! 🤩 Final Fantasy XVI was my personal GOTY last year, and both Ben’s performance and the musical score were the best of any video game I had played last year as well. 😁 He absolutely CRUSHED IT as Clive Rosfield 🔥
"I WANT TO BE A HUSK BY THE END OF THIS INTERVIEW" - subject passing the vibe check with flying colours
Aaaw @Austin Wintory giving us commenters some hearts, that is so like him. For the record, the Journey LSO record has been my perennial go-to music during work for the last few years, and here I am listening to it again... now at the choral ooohs and big timpani booms and strings+brass dissonance during the ravine of "Nadir!" Pretty excited for the next 15 minutes of my life as we commence a glorious climb back up towards "I Was Born For This" and then maybe I should queue up some Abzu and more recent stuff hmmmmm
What a wonderful conversation all around. Really looking forward to seeing Ben in more things in the future.

What Ben was saying about wanting to reach out to a creator or actor after finishing a game: I can identify. I reached out to Jenova Chen after finishing Journey with a random stranger and being moved to tears by the human connection I’d felt from that game. I wasn’t expecting a response but he came back and said I’d made his day with my story! Of course a massive part of what made Journey so special was the incredible music - I used one of the main tracks to wake up to for years!! - so just wanted to say - I didn’t reach out to you at the time, but thank you so much for being part of making one of the most memorable moments of my gaming life. You helped me find connection to another person at a time when I’d felt so completely alone. ❤
Also I love Ben Starr. What an amazing actor. The emotions he went through as Clive felt intensely personal to watch and he’s such a lovely guy.
Ben seems like an awesome guy, happy to have heard your chat today. I really loved the part about self-worth and comparing yourself to others. Your dad's saying about medical school at 54:58 is a really good mentality to keep, I'm gonna remember that one! Thanks for another fantastic episode, Austin, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one!
Big Ben Starr fan. I enjoy the episodes with other composers because I learn a ton about a subject I don’t hear about otherwise, but so much of what you guys talked about this episode was relatable to most people, regardless of industry. Definitely a lot to reflect on. Thanks!
A brilliant conversation with such a genuinely awesome guy.
I’ve watched a number of Ben’s interviews and his passion for what he does and his love of games always shines through.
Been on a major Ben Starr kick trying to consume any interview type content I can with him in the time post the release of FFXVI and found this video. Was stoked that it was so recent.
Total mindfuck to see a conversation of this length/depth/breadth/caliber as a video with naught but ~2400 views at the time of this comment on a channel with just under 42k subs. I hope that you sooner than later find the success on the channel that good stuff like this deserves.
Btw, of course had no idea coming into this you had a hand in the wonderful game that is Journey, so thank you very much for that, as humble or modest as you like to be about minimizing taking credit (as most good creatives do it seems).
Very kind! Ben is a lovely guy and it was a great joy chatting with him!
Great stuff man, love the chill professionalism it needs to spread like a virus.
Benstar played TimeSplitters my man gets cooler by the second
Like this great star, I've also been influenced by Jim Carrey for my acting career, which I've decided to do first before my own projects.
Lord what a gorgeous lad
Ben also!!
i never wouldve guessed ff16 dub was actually different face movements and not just lip matching. thats awesome
The game was actually written in English before Japanese
This is a wonderful interview but I did a spit take when Ben said he was born in 1998, you're telling me I'm older than this guy?!
