    September garden was lovely. And your tomato harvest was, "oh my goodness," bountiful. Anise seeds! The green onions were beautiful, too. Just everything, really. Yay for you. So much to be thankful for. I enjoyed seeing your garden. Thank you.

    Nice! Thanks for sharing your garden with us. I still have some peppers coming along, my roses did another full bloom, and of course my herbs are doing great. Praying for a mild winter. Stay safe my friend. Maybe I will do a little winter garden tour for my channel, you inspired me!

      You're so welcome! You are blessed to be able to still be growing things. People are always interested in seeing others' gardens-especially if it's green during winter!

    you are doing a lot of work amazing well Cathy. Your garden is beautiful, you should be very proud of it. Our garden did not do so hot, but both daughter and I were in hot mess concentration mode. We were too busy doing major projects on the house multi tasking has been hard. But we were able to get some peppers, zucchini, and a long time family we know shared her goodies. Its amazing she did not do much to her garden and it grew so much stuff she was giving it away. This family I did do some canning for plus want to teach her they have 7 children. She did get a dehydrator and that was her fun tool this year.

    Great update.
    Just wanted to let you know that I will continue to watch every video (I'm a little behind) but they are really cracking down at work, so I won't be able to comment as often. Please know that one of the thumbs 👍 is mine.

    I spent the past month digging out composted compacted hay/goat poop from the goat shelter and relocated it to my raised garden bed. Allowing chickens in there hoping they break it up. But I'm anxious to get planting but it will get to cold soon to grow much.

    Cathy your garden did so wonderful this year! Everything is so lush and beautiful! Do you have a favorite fertilizer or go to steps for fertilizing your garden? I have been really needing to find something that works. Over the years I can see we are depleting our garden but I am so leery of adding store fertilizers and the chickens can only offer so much ...

    • @northstarprepsteader

      Thank you and I hear you. For years I didn’t realize I needed to fertilize 🙄. So I’ve just been mostly working on bulking up my soil, because I have ‘black sand’. The first half of the summer I just add some organic liquid fertilizer (brands vary) once or twice, but heavier on nitrogen to help build the plants. Once they’re ready to start fruiting, I’ll change that up. This year I found a granular sprinkle that was higher in potassium which also helped with blossom end rot. I think I applied that twice. Proper watering makes a difference for my raised beds too. I do have fish fertilizer and was going to make comfrey tea but didn’t get to either of those. Might try next year!

    Beautiful garden. Looks great. What do you do with all of your harvest? Do you keep it all? Can it? I'd love to know the next phase after harvesting and before winter. Thanks.

    • @northstarprepsteader
      @northstarprepsteader  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you! Yes, I harvested everything. I've canned most of it, gave a few things to a friend, dehydrated herbs, but now finishing curing the onions and the winter squash.

    Looks like your Brad's did well! I was so disappointed with both the Brad's Atomic and the Cherokee Purple tomatoes I planted this year. Started both from seed and planted transplants after the last average frost date. Mother nature had different plans though, and it go super chilly a couple of times, and then super hot shortly thereafter. Only got 3 off of the Cherokee, and by the time Brad's started producing decently (in the fall!) the plant had enough and was infested by aphids :-( Going to try again next year...2021 will be a better year. Fingers crossed!

      Oh that’s tough. Some years are so hard to get anything to grow well. I think we as gardeners are eternal optimists-we continue to hope that next year will be better or different 😊
