    15 Pros dont have thunderbolt, the charging speeds will be the same, the only things that changes between the USB C 2.0 and the other USB C 3.0 is the transfer speeds, for files etc not charging

    • @MattJH
      @MattJH 10 місяців тому +19

      Yup. To add to that, the iPhone 15 will take 20W-30W at max and a compliant USB-C cable will deliver 60W at minimum, so any cable will do when it comes to charging. Cheers to SimplyPops for reporting his results honestly. It's good supporting data.

      Is 3.2 Gen 2 a 100w capable standard? I know that’s one of the big draws to thunderbolt compared to USB, that you can fast-charge and data transfer 10GBS

    • @MattJH
      @MattJH 7 місяців тому

      @@Brianmatthewward USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 will transfer data at 10Gbps. USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 will double that to 20Gbps. As far as power delivery, that will vary across USB 3.2 Gen 2 cables. Now that we've got USB4 and 240w power delivery over USB-C, Thunderbolt doesn't offer any special value in the context of charging or data transfer speeds.

    USB 2 and 3 are data transfer speeds. USB-pd governs the charging speeds. Also since the iPhone doesn’t have a thunderbolt port, the thunderbolt cable will function in usb3 mode.

      iPhone 15 Pro only support USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2, and not USB 4.0 or thunderbolt 4. For transferring data even you use cable USB 4.0 the speed will limit in USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2. but in the future I think iPhone Pro series will support USB 4.0 or thunderbolt 4 like iPad Pro. that's good investment if you buying that cable.

    Okay can someone break this down for me because I've been confused and haven't been able to find a good answer, is it the iPhone port or just the cable limiting the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus to USB 2.0 transfer speeds If I use a more capable cable on a iPhone 15 or 15 Plus can I get USB 3.0 performance out of it?

    • @MattJH
      @MattJH 10 місяців тому +11

      **CHARGING SPEEDS**
      The USB-C cable that you use to charge your phone has no affect on charging speeds, because the minimum power delivery of a USB-C cable far exceeds what the iPhone 15 can accept. Officially, all four of the new iPhone 15 models take 20W. Unofficially, it may actually be 27W-35W depending on which source you're reading. All compliant USB-C cables will deliver 60W at minimum.
      What matters is the USB-C power adapter you're using at the other end of the USB-C cable. A 35W adapter will cover all possible bases, ensuring that your phone charges as fast as possible. If you have power adapters laying around that deliver even more power, those are fine too. Your iPhone 15 will treat a 240W power adapter exactly the same way as it does a 35W power adapter. It will only draw what it can use.
      **DATA TRANSFER SPEEDS**
      The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus use USB 2.0 for their USB-C port which has a data transfer limit of 480Mbps. There's no such thing as a compliant USB-C cable that will transfer less than that, so any USB-C cable will do.
      The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max use USB 3.2 Gen 2 for their USB-C port which has a data transfer limit of 10Gbps. You will have to purchase a USB-C cable that's capable of transferring 10Gbps separately in order to take advantage of this, as the one packaged with the phone is USB 2.0 which will limit you to 480Mbps. Early results show that not all 10Gbps USB-C cables will transfer at the 10Gbps when connected to an iPhone 15 Pro. Investigations are underway to determine why this is. Unless I missed it, Apple doesn't sell one. The next step up from their USB-C USB 2.0 cables is Thunderbolt.
      Speaking of which...
      **THUNDERBOLT**
      Unless you have another use for a Thunderbolt cable, there's no reason to purchase one for your iPhone 15 for charging or transferring data. It doesn't have Thunderbolt, and the cable offers no benefits, as the power delivery (100W) and data transfer speeds (40Gbps) delivered by Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 far exceed what the iPhone 15 is capable of accepting. Thunderbolt will not charge the battery any faster or transfer speeds any faster on an iPhone 15.

      So what's the absolute best charger and charging cable? I see videos people claiming to get above normal, but no direct indication of what cable and charger using on the iPhone 15 pro max , looking to buy

    • @MattJH
      @MattJH 9 місяців тому

      @@kurtsteven6531 I like Anker and Tripp-Lite, but only because of their build quality and reputation. Unless we're talking about cheap non-compliant no-name brands and/or obviously cheap materials, there is no "best" charger or cable when it comes to USB-C power delivery honestly. As long as the manufacturer adheres to USB-C standards, they'll all fundamentally work the same way. Differences only emerge when we're transferring data.
      *Charging cables* - You don't have to worry about USB 2.0, USB 3.1, Thunderbolt, or any of that when it comes to USB-C charging cables. A USB-C cable is going to deliver at least double the power of what an iPhone 15 Pro Max will draw either way. People really like Anker's braided USB-C cables because they stand up to a lot of abuse, but they will charge your iPhone 15 Pro Max no slower or faster than any other compliant USB-C cable.
      *Charging adapters* - If you want your phone to charge as fast as possible (not everyone does!), get a 30W. Apple, Anker and Tripp-Lite all make good ones in my personal experience, as do many other brands. When in doubt, Google the brand name you're looking at -- if every result points to Amazon, there's a higher likelihood that it isn't going to be great unless we're talking about Amazon Basics, which is generally a solid budget option.

    Thunderbolt cable alone wouldn’t make any difference to any phone or device Apple or any other brand unless you’re going to use a Thunderbolt cable with a phone or a device which also must have a Thunderbolt interface ( port ). So Thunderbolt cable and Thunderbolt device or a phone must match and sink with each other.
