Is there anything this woman CAN'T do? Insane talent. Bright to boot. And so beautiful it hurts.

Musicians like this just don't exist anymore. The Carolina Chocolate Drops are a rare treasure! Sheer geniuses keeping the rare roots to all of modern American music alive! I am truly in awe.

They still exist, they're just far from the mainstream.

ya, great musicians and bands still around that play this sort of music, just gotta know where to seek them out. check wncw.org on sundays from 3-6pm EST for an old time music show called This Old Porch. check out bruce molsky, the foghorn stringband, the freight hoppers, the down hill strugglers, frank fairfield, erryn marshall, kirk sutphin, brad leftwich, walt koken, dom flemons (he's the drum player in this video, now a solo artist)..these are just a few of current, living old time musicians that are worth a listen

Many years ago I saw the Carolina Chocolate Drops in Portsmouth NH and they were amazing! They are all extremely gifted Kings and Queens. To now see Rhiannon dance this jig is moving. Any person that is able to share time with her should consider themselves blessed. A very special woman and an extremely special soul. Rhiannon, thank you for your presence!!!!

This is FANTASTIC! I didn't know these kinds of performances were still possible in this millennium... I was under the mistaken impression this manner of performing was lost save for the grooves of priceless old records. Beyond that, I haven't seen anyone move like that save some dancers on vintage silent film shorts from circa 1900... this band has it DOWN man!
And I totally agree with the hard things looking easy bit... I can't dance at all, but I have friends who are good dancers and I still don't think they could come close to this... touche' !

It's interesting to compare this performance with that of Rachel Eddy, which is pure bluegrass. Nothing like this.

@@nodealbrexitnow7376 Where did the Banjo Originally Come From?
The Banjo was inspired by instruments that originated in West Africa and were brought over by slaves from those regions. These instruments, the ngoni and the xalam, are both hide covered stringed instruments that bear resemblance to the modern banjo.
      Who Invented the Banjo
Credit for inventing the modern banjo goes to Joel Sweeney. Often called Joe, he is credited with designing and promoting the current 5 string banjo in the form we know it today.
      Is the Banjo Irish?
No. The modern 5 string banjo was invented in America, although it has roots from instruments that were brought over and played by the slaves. The four string tenor banjo might be an Irish instrument, but the popular and traditional 5-string banjo is American.Do some research

NOT WHITE MUSIC. IT WAS EVERYONES MUSIC HERE IN AMERICA FROM THE SLAVE TO THE MINER, THE SHARE CROPPER TO THE MOUNTAINEERS....ONE THING THAT BROUGHT EVERYONE TOGETHER WAS THE MUSIC. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LOOK UP VIDEOS FROM THE EARLY 1900S OF BLACKS PLAYING BANJO, FIDDLE, ETC...THIS IS AMERICANA YOU MINDLESS BRIT. STAY OVER THERE AND STOP TRYING TO FURTHER DIVIDE THE PEOPLE.....
