Haruna the heart of Lovebites.
That little lady can flat out play. Her smile is so infectious. Between her and Fami it's hard to tell who's smiling more. They must be the happiest rhythm section I have ever seen. Her endurance is off the charts. She must be exhausted after a show.
Haruna uses an Economy of Motion technique. Her nicknames are “The pocket nuclear reactor” and “Little Big Engine” because she can perform at an up tempo pace for almost the entire length of Lovebites concert, which can last over 2 hrs: the power, speed and stamina of Haruna are unbeatable and she never misses a note!!
She said this during an interview:
“I am trained physically, but when I play on stage I tend to relax. If I try to play forcefully, I'll be exhausted quickly. That's why I'm singing along most of the time. Trying not to concentrate too much.”
And, she is the cutest drummer in the universe!!!
Watching Haruna is always a joy. She's like in her own bubble having the time of her life. I fall in love with her every time I see her. The unsung hero of the band.
Harupi!! She's as beautiful as ever, and what's more, very strong.
She is the adorable glue, the cute dark matter of the band, she ties all others in the beat, at speed.
Haruna Harupidrums is, in my opinion, one of the best drummer on the planet today. The Little Big Engine AKA The Human Metronome is unbelievably precise and never misses a beat, the biggest smile is always shining. She is a legend and a very special person ❤️ her so much. A 4'9 giant 🤘🥁🥁🥁🎸🎤🎹🐺
That's Haruna all over - endearing, elegant and absolutely perfect. What a wonderful lady she is.
Her unique cymbal work and cymbal fills sets her apart
Agree. She isnt just speed and technique she has a keen sense of the multi amount of cymbal sounds available for enhancement. Not unlike Peart from Rush. Her Cymbal for effect work is Stellar.
the most adorable assasin ever to sit behind a drum kit!!!
Yes, her cymbal work are exceptional ..
Haruna is such a joy to watch, she really stands out to me with her drumming style, love it!! 🤘🐺🔥 Thanks for checking it out!
Little big engine in action. Yes, she’s an outstanding and so efficient drummer. Hands down!
Nic reaction. Me too I love Haruna so much she is the power of lovebites
Relentless on the bass drum and this is one of the lower bpm songs. Love this adorable little beat machine!
Very good choice! Some reflexions about Haruna:
- she's been doing this for 20 years now, she's an awesome professional
- kudos for highlighting her cymbal work! That's her real signature for me, that delicate and creative cymbal work on top of her relentless drum work
- she's so relax that she has time to look at the audience: when I saw them last month in Belgium, I was first row in front of Miyako, and I had a very good sight on Haruna, and she was having fun with the audience
- she had a hire drum kit for that tour, that needed tuning: it was done in a few minutes and sounded perfect afterwards (I watched the rehearsals)
- IRL she's so tiny! They all are, even the "tall" Fami, and really unpretentious friendly people
I saw more of Haruna in this one video than I saw of her during the entire show in London recently. Not that there was any doubt she was there, of course.
Also, there were no breaks in the set until the gap before the encore at the end. No long MC sections, no lone guitar solos like lots of other bands do during their set, so Haruna was basically motoring away at full speed for over an hour, in a set that included Soldier Stands Solitarily.
It's cute because we were all saying we wanted a drum-cam video of Haruna, and then it happened! ☺
She doesn't get enough spotlight. Everyone comments that the drummer is killing it, plenty of times, but the focus is rarely on what she is doing because of the double lead stellar guitarists.
She uses her kit, all of it. She looks like she is absolutely loving life. If I was as awesome as she is I'd be loving life and smiling as well.
Not many people get to do what she does, as well as she does and make a good living while doing it.
One of the things I appreciate about Haruna is how efficiently she plays and her drums 🥁 and cymbals set up in a way that allows for that efficiency and speed!!!!! She has even explained this in a video (I'll get the link to you) that she wants NO wasted movement. Says that is what helps her get through a 2 and a half hour set!!!! She also does meditation before a show and also has special breathing techniques while playing that keeps her alert and focused
I wonder if she uses NEMOPHILA's song Zen to meditate to!!!!! LOL!!!!!
ハルナ最高!!
I don't know if you've seen this short video of Haruna playing live but it's absolutely incredible. How this woman can play a concert for 90 minutes or more with this level of drumming is one of life's imponderables. This link should get you there. Enjoy!! LOVEBITES - Haruna - Europe & UK Tour 2024 Drum cam
Yes. One of the most musical drummers out there. And one of the most efficient. So no. She doesn't sweat. Just glistens from time to time.
It must look like this, when an artist is in complete harmony and unison with his work.
She's relaxed setting the flow, while at the same time seem to drift with it.
Only a lot of practice, can make this look so easy-going and effortless. You did well, when you can enter the stage and just can let it out.
I LOVE HARUNA! She is among the best drummers ever and my favorite drummer! Not only is her talent out of this world, she is kawaii and always smiling like you said. Thank for reacting to this, I can watch Haruna play the drums all day long.
Drums 🥁 are incredibly Wow🖤💫
I started watching videos of her because of her approach to the layout of the drums, see that she does not use the resonant in the toms, and yes, she plays like a beast ;)
Her accentuation is soooooooooooooo clever! And fun to watch. This little beast!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤗😈
Yes, her cymbal work is just sublime in all their songs. So musical.
And to your comment 'does she ever sweat ?', the answer is no. Because as my dear old Grandmother used to say, "ladies don't sweat...they glisten". 🙂
And let's face it, Haruna is such a lady.
I think the saying is Horses Sweat, Men Perspire, Women Glow, i had to look this up LOL😁🤣😀
Harupi’s cymbal work is always top notch! 🤘
Wow. I have seen a couple of Haruna's drum cams from Lovebites Euro Tour. Never saw this video before with multiple views. A picture afterwards of the band reveals how hard Haruna worked as her hair was a bit matted from sweat.
Haruna has a very efficient style in how she hits the drums and symbols. You mentioned her bass drumming and that does stand out. A great drummer does several things. One is the basics is providing the beat. Haruna does that with the double kick. You can hear that beat that the other members are going off of. She keeps that so steady. For the chorus she changes up the bass drum beat to match the change in rhythm. Truly, Haruna is a human metronome. The second thing a great drummer does is to add texture and Haruna does plenty of that. The third thing is not to let the texture step on the beats. Through out the song, her beats are clear and distinct. The last thing is to not step on the other members. There is plenty of room for the other members to breathe their life into the songs, too. Haruna is special. They call her "The little big engine." I call her the nuclear sparkplug of the band.
and I am almost 50 years... 😊
thanks for apreciated "the metronome lady", haruna-san. 😊
I can’t ever imagine playing all her stuff with that much ease…. It’s 🤯
wow, she must have legmuscles of titanium to keep this up for a whole concert, little big engine or a 4'7 pocket nuke as I heardd someone call here, she's awesome
Negative, she does NOT break a sweat. Our pocket sized Goddess merely glistens more.
As for the Bass Drums, this is like Haruna taking a break.. most songs are about 3x higher BPM in the set, so this probably is like stretching for her, lol. I adore this woman on every level!
This is one of the slower LOVEBITES songs, so Harupi can take a break from the usual crazy beats per minute she plays! 😎
Her latest hairstyle works even better for tossing about. Plus, she appears more svelte and toned as well, really looking great. I believe she has followed some of Midori's nutritional paths if I picked up clues correctly. The recent drum cams of her are superb!
It's the impression of HARUNA, but his personality is also calm, and he doesn't look like he's playing heavy metal drums ... I like this gap irresistibly! This play is non-stop for 2 hours, the physical strength to continue for days on the tour, what kind of training do you do every day?✨💪😎✨
LOVEBITES - Raise Some Hell lyrics:
Who is playing?Who’s that chick?Shredding on guitar
Who is playing?Who’s that chick?Heavy noise on bass
Who is playing?Who’s that chick?Pounding on the drums
Who am I?I’ve got a voice, it’s gonna knock you out
Blowing up a storm
Pick up microphone
Ready to depart for the battlefield
Ringing in my head
Burning in my soul
Crazy rock and roll, we’re ready to go
Let there be sound, be rock, come on now all together
It’s like a party everybody shout tonight
Let there be sound, be rock, come on now we are gonna stay free
This is time to rock yeah
Make some noise!Raise some hell!
Who will win?Who will lose?Claim the victory
Who will scream?Who will cry?We can all survive
Who will come?Who will go?Show me what you’ve got
Who will die?Who’s alive?OK, bring it on
Blowing up a storm
Pick up microphone
Ready to depart for the battlefield
Ringing tin my head
Burning in my soul
Crazy rock and roll, we’re ready to go
Let there be sound, be rock, come on now all together
It’s like a party everybody shout tonight
Let there be sound, be rock, come on now we are gonna stay free
This is time to rock yeah
Make some noise!Raise some hell!

My 3 favourite drummers to watch are Haruna, Akane from Band-Maid and Jukka from Nightwish (although he’s not drumming for them now). They are all Sonny’s mic when they play.
Haruna is steady bass a rock with her double pedal work and it doesn’t matter what she’s doing with her right hand her left hand on the snare is so in the pocket and never waivers.
I’m glad you mentioned her cymbals because I’ve always considered her as one of the most creative drummers when it comes to her cymbal work.
Great reaction, thank you.
haruna is super tiny but the cutest drummer in the world
You're right on target. I can't say I have a favorite member of the band, but for sure I would say Haruna is their "secret weapon". To use a sports analogy, she probably has the greatest "wins over replacement" of all of them. As many have pointed out, every member of this band would be the center of attention, the star of a normal band. But Haruna would level up any normal band,
great reaction. Haruna is friends with Akane
Thank you for reviewing and for the wonderful comments on our lovely cute tiny titan “HARUNA Chan”❤😊
ありがとう😭❤😊
She is so efficient it's insane. It's crazy because she is tiny, and her kit is large. Yet, she covers it in its entirety. She is a technical wizard, and this song doesn't come close to displaying her full potential. This is a fun song, and Haruna is just so cute when she plays. Then I think, WTF is the matter with me, calling a metal drummer cute 😂. This made me happy. Fun reaction.
The Little Big Engine !!
Here is another Haruna's drum cam ...enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/T0aQNUUT6j8/v-deo.htmlsi=VBgw-5frHI9k0W8V

Thanks so much for sharing this. I had no idea it existed either. By the way, the new live CD coming out in August from their Judgement Day tour has a Haruna drum solo included. That was one of the biggest reasons I ordered my pre-sale copy. Brilliant reaction. Cheers.
I've seen this song in the full live video, but hadn't seen the drum cam til now. Probably is easy for her, and she keeps it up for 90 min to 2 hour shows.🤘🤘#LittleBigEngine.
Performance is the live show at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020(5 of a Kind DVD). Song is on the 3rd album, Electric Pentagram, brand new at this concert. Lyrics : Asami. Composition: Miyako.
I would love to see her drum cam when she play SSS.
That should be fire🔥
Haruna je l'adore!! 😍😍😍😍
Liked your comment at the end of this video. Thats very true thats in todays world theres to many haters and "D" out there. Trust me, I know, I go to that almost everyday being called that "D" word constantly because since my first name is Richard. LOL🤘🔥💯
LOL! Well, you are the exception Sir! Thank you for the laugh!
If there is 100 cymbals....Haruna will hits it all that 100 cymbals..... 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Watch JUNNA do drum cover songs Pain Killer(Judas Priest), LUX AETERNA(Metallica), DRAGONFORCE, IRON MAIDEN.....
Funny you should mention JUNNA... Keep your eyes peeled, or better yet click the Bell. LOL
Lovebites . . .🤘🏻🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺🤘🏻
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
She's adorable.
Two things:
1st - great reaction video dude. Far too often Metal drummers are overlooked, and it's been that way since the early 80's sadly;
2nd - Haruna is an absolute BEAST on drums. Lovebites actuality has many songs where the drum tempo (especially the kick drums) is much faster, and the entire time Haruna is smiling and making it look effortless.
There's a reason why Haruna is sometimes referred to as the 'Pocket Nuke', because she has so much explosive power on drums.
My opinion is that Haruna sounds like a combination Dave Lombardo and Tim 'The Missile' Yeung combined, with a little bit of Paul Bostaph added, then combined with her own personal unique style of playing.
If you want to hear Haruna playing much faster, I'd suggest Set The World on Fire (Live in Tokyo 2021, the last performance before Miho left), or the song Soldier Stands Solitarily from their newest album.
That being said, again great reaction video dude.
Oh by the way, you just got a new subscriber.
Thank you for such an informative post. These are the kind of love to see. I appreciate your subscription! Welcome to the funny farm.
I always loved how efficient she is with her movement, so clean.
If you want to give Fami some love too, she has her own youtube channel where she upload covers and her own music, even if not for a reaction id recommend checking some of her stuff out (Alien alien usually her most popular cover, but any will do) id guarantee it will blow your mind, as technical as Lovebites music is, since its so guitar heavy she barely gets to show all of what shes capable of with her bass.
Alien alien is already reacted to. I did that as soon as they announced her as the new bassist. :-)
@@ThePentagenarian Oh, ill check it out right away! sry i didnt see it, my bad.
That was a pretty fast response to my recommendation of this clip in my comment to your "We Are the Resurrection"-reaction! :) I hope you also check out the four short-clips of Haruna from their four European festival appearances, at least on your own, because they might be too short for a reaction. Personally, I could imagine watching an entire concert-DVD/Blu-ray showing Haruna on a split-screen from different fixed camera angles. Maybe adding one camera focusing on what she does with her feet would be nice as well.
Your suggestion was something I have actually been considering for a while. I just hadn't had the time to look for a clip! You basically provided the clip that I was going to go look for! LOL

🤘🐺🔥
never seen her even come close to breaking a sweat. how is it even possible. she makes a big noise with her kit with a minimum of movement - efficiency. she is my favorite drummer and nipping at her heels is junna. another small japanese girl that is 5 ft. 1 in. - a giant next to haruna ! she is in her early 20's and has many videos of her killing everything in her path. she recently joined the female band HAGANE and with their new lineup is a band to be reckoned with. check her out in their new official mv : ua-cam.com/video/GhMamN_DBO4/v-deo.html
Keep an eye out Thursday... :-)
@@ThePentagenarian gotcha !
Haruna is part of the "little cute monsters" family as Yukina 😂and Live need a big screen only for her :D or a "spinning drum set" as the one of Motley Crue 🤣🤣🤣
It made me wonder if any of the cymbal hits are improvised. As for breaking a sweat, in a backstage shot from one of the European shows she’s using what looks like a hairdryer, (set to cold) or a hairdryer style electric fan and she explained, almost apologetically, that she works up quite a sweat on stage and I know from being at 4 of the gigs that those stages, in what were relatively high temperatures, were damn hot.
Haruna is, to put it simply, the perfect drummer for Lovebites. She's a metal version of the "pocket drummer," with a groove to her playing that always matches the song and ultra-precise on tempo. From start to finish of their long live sets, she's relentlessly precise and powerful. No, she's not a super-technical drummer...not (for example) a Senri Kawaguchi, a Kanade Sato, etc...but in the context of the band she's in, she doesn't _need_ to be. And it's not like her technical chops are sub-par at all (particularly her excellent footwork)!
It's interesting to think how many of my favorite metal drummers these days are Japanese women. My very favorite, Tamu Murata, Haruna, Junna, Tohko (Saiseiga), Mizuki (East of Eden/Lonesome Blue), Meg-chan (Ark Royal), KanaKo (PaleNe0 support)...and while normally considered fusion jazz players, the aforementioned Senri (Saki solo project) and Kanade (KOIAI) have shown that they can absolutely slay at prog-metal. And that's leaving off hard rockers like Akane Hirose or Nagisa (TRiDENT)!
Interesting that you mentioned Trident. I will be posting a reaction to Hagane tomorrow. I was entertained by their drummer, who, as you know, is JJNNA. So I looked into her and will be having a reaction to work from her UA-cam channel soon, as well as some 4 year old Trident... Which will lead to more recent Trident... LOL
@@ThePentagenarian Yep, Junna was the original TRiDENT drummer (or, technically, the pre-TRiDENT drummer, since the name change from Girls Rock Band Kakumei happened after Junna left). Interestingly, I think TRiDENT is actually better with their new drummer (Nagisa). The latter also has mad skills, but doesn't overplay like the Junna of old frankly used to. Junna's matured in that regard (and in addition, no way band leader Sakura is going to stand for that in Hagane!)...and Hagane's style suits a "busier" drumming style anyway.
ハルナ最高❤❤❤
Might want to be careful with this one and a copyright strike/claim. This video comes from their paid fan club subscription. Just an FYI.
One reaction to this clip has been online here on YT for two years now and has currently more than 30,000 views.
Copyright scan notified me that there was a claim but the owner allows for use on UA-cam. :-)
Good looking out though! Thank you!
☺️💕🤭👏💓
Relentless is a poor description! Those feet never stop! Little big engine is right!
I think percussionist is the term most appropriate, drummer does her a disservice.
