This isn't the first time Obi-Wan knew Anakin was Darth Vader.....he was shocked Anakin survived on their fight at Mustafar....and how he survived being burned alive.
About Obi-Wan learning Anakin is alive: you need to remember he left him about to die at Mustafar and left to help Padme, and of course after that, he went into exile, and went to Tatooine, at the far part of the galaxy, the outer rim, so Obi-Wan wouldn’t necessarily know about Vader. About the bacta tank: of course he never was gonna be completely healed, he was burn at the whole body (the parts left of it), so he always needed to go back to a bacta tank to try to keep him the best posible to survive, even with the help of the suit and the mechanic limbs and breathing assistance.
I think a lot of kid actors could have pulled off the brassy mouthy parts, but when obi wan talked about “his friend that passed away” and she’s a bit startled and apologizes… something about it was so Carrie it’s crazy
@@rash1990ful You explained how future characters in the Star Wars will endure themselves to us fans of Star Wars. Deborah Chow has always had a passion for and she spent so much time with Dave and George that she gets what Star Wars is all about and after directing episodes of Mandalorian season 1 it was time she became a Jedi director.
With Leia, I was taking those scenes where she was understand peoples motivations not that she was smart, but she was reading their thoughts via the force. The way Vader does.
Obi-Wan knew about the Darth Vader name because he saw it in the recording in the Jedi temple with Yoda in Epsiode 3 when the emperor promoted him. Obi-Wan left Anakin for dead and saw him caught on fire so he thought he was dead this whole time. Great reactions. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
Yes I knew he knew anakin was Vader but when I watched the show I completely forgot that he thought anakin was dead still so good I can’t wait for the next episode!!
The Inquisitors were basically former Jedi who succumbed to the dark side, their goal is to hunt down all the surviving Jedi of Order 66. Their first appearance was in the animated series "Star Wars Rebels (which takes place years after this series)"
"He's good at blocking" I loved this detail as Obi-Wan was known as one of the best practitioners of "Form III", the most defensive form of lightsaber fighting, so it's a great detail to add to his other fighting styles that he's good on defense
My thoughts on why "storywise" Obi Wan is watching over Luke instead of Leia is because Leia would have more protection and be safer than comparing to Luke would.
You should watch The Clone Wars and Rebels if you haven’t already. Some amazing storytelling that led to these live action series. Also, Vader always needs Bacta treatments to keep his body alive. The biggest shocker for me was Reva knowing Vader’s secret. Almost no one knows that Vader was once Anakin. The Empire listed Anakin Skywalker as dead. I hope we see why she was trusted with that secret before the series ends.
I was seriously disappointed when Reva said Anakin's name. I hope there's a good explanation. I'll be equally disappointed if Vader and Obi-Wan meet face to face. Scene 38 in A New Hope was the first time they met since the final act of Revenge of the Sith according to cannon so far. I'll enjoy a good story and a good fight with Vader in his prime but I'll always know they broke cannon to do it. Opinions may vary ;)
@@mckrackin5324 Honestly I wasn’t disappointed I was more intrigued. Very few people know that secret, even fewer in the empire. I don’t even think the Grand Inquisitor knows. I am very curious how she knows and is still walking around with that information. Has she gained Vaders trust or is she somehow using that secret to improve her standing in the Empire? As for them meeting before Epsiode IV, that can be explained that still makes sense. George never counted on the prequels being made so before those everyone assumed Anakin was still an apprentice when he turned. Vader’s line “When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the Master” could make more sense if they meet here because he is still “learning” the Dark Side and adjusting to his life in the suit. I mean he definitely wasn’t a padawan in Revenge of the Sith. Canon is always hard to navigate when you are trying to add to already well established events and dialogue. I know Filoni was consulted for canon so I trust he’ll steer it in the right direction that makes sense. I’m enjoying the show very much I hope you are too.
@@brianhampton923 He's not "learning" the Dark Side at this point though. This time in his life is literally the pinnacle of his power. He rarely sees the Emperor at this stage. He has his own armies, his own naval forces, several bases, his castle/school, his own apprentices and the Inquisitors. He is literally a master in every sense of the word. They never claimed he was a "Padawan" in ROTS. He was a Jedi Knight and had passed the trials but he was still Obi-Wan's apprentice. Padawan and apprentice are similar but not the same thing. Anakin was not a Padawan but he was not a master either. He got instruction from Obi-Wan even as he had his own Padawan (Ahsoka Tano). I'm just going to have to try not to let my fascination with the lore get in the way of enjoying a good story. lol
@@mckrackin5324 If we take him at his literal word, he actually says “When I left you I was but a learner…” so that doesn’t even have to refer to a “last time we met” sort of situation. It does leave room for encounters after he “left” Obi-Wan, which can be interpreted as when he changed sides. But at the end of the day, yeah even the prequels retconned some things, so it’s whatever.
@@mckrackin5324 I’m pretty sure it’s nearly confirmed since the announcement of the show that there would be a Vader vs obi wan in this show… also I’m pretty sure their fight in a new hope is one in a long while not specifically since revenge of the sith
Obi-Wan knew Anakin was Vader but didn’t know he survived Mustafar. Vader would always need the suit due to the damage to his lungs that Mustafar did. The girl that plays younger Leia plays a child of two superhero’s on a Netflix film “We Can Be Heroes” which is a good film to check out.
The little Leia actress Is incredible. Easily one of the best child actors I've ever seen, and the way she delivers some of her lines reminds me so much of how Carrie Fisher would've delivered them. She is EXACTLY what I'd I'd expect from a younger Leia.
It didn't "took a while" for Anakin to become Darth Vader (he became Vader at the end of EP. III, which was 10 years before the events of this show). Obi-Wan was just living as a hermit in Tatooine during that time, completely cut-off from everything except Luke, so he didn't know Anakin survived and was part of the Empire regime.
I think she was misunderstanding Vader being out of the suit and assumed he was still being repaired. I have frequently seen and heard Star Wars fans talking as if he rarely ever takes off the suit and mask, so it's not just her. The idea never made sense to me, it always made more sense that his suit and mask were mobile life support that he'd forego on his down time.
@@fadedjem Exactly that. Remember Vader/Anakin and Luke dialogue after the death of the Emperor where Anakin asks Luke to remove his mask so he could see him with his own eyes, Luke's immediate answer was "but you will die!"
Certainly the Grand Inquisitor is not dead in this second episode because he only dies in Star Wars Rebels, and the Kenobi series happens 6 years before Rebels
He's probably in a bacta tank now and is pissed at Reva. Maybe because she's chasing Obi-Wan and is hot on his trail, Darth Vader might allow her to go after him and maybe Force-Choke the Grand Inquisitor for his incompetence.
I definitely didn't expect to see young Leia in this limited series, but for me the funniest part so far was Teeka. The concept of this show reminds me of Logan for several reasons. If you know, you know.
I absolutely believe that Third Sister/Reva was one of the kids from the beginning shot. Her hatred of Kenobi--and the fact that she somehow knows that Anakin and Vader are the same person, when that should be a huge secret--makes me think she was one of the kids from the Temple and she lived past O66. I think she blames Kenobi for failing with Anakin and allowing him to turn to the Dark Side.
That absolutely makes sense. Anyone who saw Anakin as Vader before the Mustafar duel could know Vader and Anakin were the same person if they heard him called Lord Vader.
Obi-Wan knew Anakin became Darth Vader in Episode 3. Yoda tells Obi-Wan "The boy you trained...gone...consumed now by Darth Vader". He thought Anakin died or was dying on Mustafar from his burnt wounds after he walked away from him after their battle.
It actually makes a lot of sense because most clones can't live a life outside the military. Being soldiers is all they know because it's what they were bred for.
Not really she’s been used as both comedy relief and plot mover. Not just that but according to the official cannon Leia was not meant to meet Kenobi til episode 1/4 a new hope.
I love that Kumail is in this. He is a true nerd so every time I see him in nerdy stuff I know how much he is loving being a part of it. His podcast about the X-Files was excellent. Its called "The X-Files Files"
I think that the reason Leia is so smart even though she's only 10 years old is because she's unconsciously using force to read people, Luke has a lot of manipulative powers but Leia is definitely more powerful when it comes to intuition and sensitivity
Leia stole the show. Reva is a perfect villain. This entire series seems dark and serious, and better than I thought it could be. Really happy for Ewan and Hayden!
As a few others have mentioned, the drug dealer in episode 2 is Ewan McGregor's real life daughter. Also, Ewan's uncle was in the original trilogy as X-wing pilot Wedge. This is a new precedent as 3 generations of actors have appeared in the Star Wars universe.
If we talk about the aging of Obi-Wan you have to remember that Episode 4 takes place 9 years after this series. That is the time for Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan to age to Alec Guinness's Obi-Wan. So the next 9 years will be even harder on him. Ewan McGregor is 51 today and Alec Guinness was 63 when Episode 4 was released so the age line up quite closely if you start from today. The timing between the prequels and this series is not in Ewan McGregor's favor, the character age 10 years but it has been 23 years between the releases.
This and Doctor Sleep, Ewan’s carving his niche in his older age at playing brilliant complex characters tasked to protect special kids! He’s absolutely still got it as Obi-Wan, I feel his acting accent has gotten more and more Alec Guinness which just cements how phenomenal his casting was in the prequels. I’ll be honest though, if I don’t get one single “Hello there” I’ll riot. 😂
I don't think she hates Obi-Wan. I believe her ambition, her desire to please Vader, to be his #1...is her all consuming motivation. To drag him before Vader, and present him as a gift on his knees.
You didn't show it in the UA-cam edit, but the girl who gives Obi-Wan the bottle of spice, while saying, "I was someone's daughter, too," was played by Ewan McGregor's actual daughter. Also, Leia being introduced to Obi-Wan as "Ben" explains why she reacts the way she does when Luke says, "I'm here with Ben Kenobi". Instead of asking "Who the Hell is Ben Kenobi?" (Keep in mind that she only referred to "Obi-Wan Kenobi" in her message), she says "Ben Kenobi? Where is he?", rather eagerly.
With the number of times you've said "Use the Force, Leia!" I just wanted to make sure you knew that as far as I'm aware Leia was completely unaware she could use the Force until after Return of the Jedi.
9:36 Obi-Wan would have watched over both, I'm sure, had Bail not decided to adopt her. Luke was going to his uncle and aunt, who didn't know prior, and who lived in much lower conditions than the Organas. Luke needed the protection far more. Besides, without training, Leia would still have been a senator who could make a difference. Luke would have been wasted potential as a moisture farmer.
Personally I hope they show more of Leia's backstory simply because we all know Luke's story backwards and forwards and this would be a nice unique change, to be honest for me the real star of the series was little leia
Obi Wan thinking of, the former Empress Satin or the friend in Padme, who was a queen? Both were strong and both were leaders ofc then they might also have retcon Star Wars Rebels by ending the grand inquisitor? just hope Reva is written out quickly
Obi knew Anakin became Vader via the hologram footage. But he was sure Anakin died from burning and his injuries. Vader has the suit already as we saw him in it in episode 3 and Rouge One, this is after episode 3 so he's just out of the suit and healing in the tank.
Reva referred to as third sister is I believe the little black girl at the Jedi training temple on croissant whenever order 66 was implemented that you see at the beginning. Her father was somehow connected in some way with Obi-Wan at that time and she has some sort of grievance with Obi-Wan, obviously she was trained under the empire and eventually under Vader‘s orders and she is an inquisitor. As ruthless as she appears to be she is still conflicted within herself.
I never expected Princess Leia as a girl. She's so adorable and perfectly cast. The dialogue was spot on, as I would imagine a smark alecky 10 year old Leia
They kept that plotline well hidden throughout all the promotion of the series. It would the height of amusement to me, if after all the hype for young Luke, the 2 seconds we saw of him in the first episode was his only appearance in the series.
Hi Mary how are you I'm glad that you liked the episodes 1 and 2 on Obi-Wan Kenobi they were good and they were amazing also it was good to see Leah and Luke not as adults but as kids still it was a good episode cannot wait for the next one to see what happens next well take care of yourself and be safe
The reveal that Vader survived really kicks the action into gear. Bail Organa also believes he’s dead. So now it’s not passively hiding the twins, it’s keeping them off Vader’s radar. With them actively hunting Obi-wan, that just became 1,000 times more difficult. That’s why they let Luke keep his last name. They thought Anakin died and it didn’t matter.
There’s a character named Satine Kryze who Obi-Wan could’ve been thinking about when comparing Leia. He probably was talking about Padme, but the description perfectly fits Satine too and Satine was particularly special to Obi-Wan.
Vader never regenerate. He MUST spend time in the Bacta tank when he is not in his suit. Obi Wan is also on the outerrim on a backend world almost cut from the empire, himself behing an outcast and trying to lay low: I'm sure he doesn't have the news
Obi-Wan is looking after Luke because he was given that task AFTER Organa said he and his wife would adopt Leia. So you see, Leia was safe with the Organas and Obi-Wan had to protect the boy. And Obi-Wan knew Anakin was Darth Vader because he saw the Emperor calling him that name in the security footage in the ROTS.
at the table scene in ep 3 Obi agrees to look after Luke and Bail agrees to look after Leia. He didn't feel obligated to protect her at first as he agreed tp protect Anakin.
I just saw a comment about how cool that amazing actor/actress playing young Leia is! She is great!👍Also, that was the most badass footage of Order 66 I've seen so far! I a m loving this show!❤️👍🤘
Luke is not more important than Leia and Kenobi never said that he was. Technically Bail Organa is supposed to protect Leia. It's his job as it is Kenobi's to protect Luke. Thats the agreement...but when he can't do it, Kenobi is the only one they can turn to. It's actually quite unfair of them to ask him to do this but because of who he is despite the nightmares and PTSD and depression, Kenobi will do it.
I just watched your old reactions to star wars episode 4 and 5. Be honest...you were haming it up a little bit right lol? There's no way you didn't know luke was Vader son, Chewbacca was in star wars, and Vaders name when he was introduced...right? That's kinda just stuff you learn from living through life lol. Either way...love your videos
Luke needs to be protected more because if the Darkside finds him he could be turned to the Darkside and he would be incredibly powerful. However Obi-Wan did promise Yoda that he would look after the boy more than anything
Nice Princess Bride reference, I made that connection when I watched the kidnapping scene. The kidnapper reminded me of a cross between Vicini and Yondo from Guardians of the Galaxy
yes it the younglings that escape order 66 that we saw in begin of show now it 10 years later and one of them when to the darkside sister 3 Revia also that one women to sell drugs to obiwan episode , EASTER EGG THAT was Ewan McGregor daughter
"I don't know why Luke is more important than Leia." They are both important, Ben said that he will look after Luke specifically so in a way he promised to do that. I'm sure in his mind Leia was going to remain safe with the Organas in their royal household, that Darth Vader wouldn't be able to track her since he had no idea that Luke has a twin sister.
Also, Obi-Wan could find his lightsaber because he could sense it. Lightsabers are handcrafted by the Jedi in the final acts of their Jedi Apprentice Training, it contains a Kaiber Crystal that they hand-pick. A powerful relic and an extension of himself. He's essentially going out into the desert to find the rest of his arm, he knew exactly where it was.
Btw, actually, no Mary...the news did not get around that Anakin survived. No one in the galaxy knows that Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker are the same person. The Emperor kept that a secret (which begs the question how how Reva knows, really) and the surviving Jedi never published his fall to the Dark Side. As far as the galaxy knows, Anakin died at the end of the war, along with the rest of the Jedi.
Here is my theory of the real reason why the Reva (third sister) is so determined to get Obi, I think that she was one of the 5 younglings they showed escaping at the beginning of the first episode during order 66 and the reason why she hates Obi is because he ran and hid and did not try to rescue them. She was caught and tortured and forced to turn to the dark side and she may have been the only one of the 5 that survived. And I think it will only enforce her hatred for him as he will come out of hiding to save a 10 year old princess but he would not do the same to save her.

@@averysteffen1732 My thoughts exactly about him possibly appearing again in a later episode.
Obi knows Anakin is Vader, but he didnt knew he is alive
From the first two episodes, I LOVE little Leia! She's just delightful! She has stolen the show!
Not really she’s been used as both comedy relief and plot mover.
Not just that but according to the official cannon Leia was not meant to meet Kenobi til episode 1/4 a new hope.
I loved these first 2 episodes. I’m in. Feels more Star Wars than Book of Boba or even Mandalorian.
Agreed!
The first episode was a absolutely a great beginning of the series! This is where the fun begins
Leia stole the show. Reva is a perfect villain. This entire series seems dark and serious, and better than I thought it could be. Really happy for Ewan and Hayden!
This is a star wars show meant for us grown up kids.
3:12 Nice one, however these are clones not stormtroopers so it doesn't quite work here :D
Beyond anything I’m so happy Padmé got a reference. It just makes me sad because now I just wanna see Padmé and little Leia 😭😭😭
That recap at beginning so emotional😢 what obi wan has been through
If we talk about the aging of Obi-Wan you have to remember that Episode 4 takes place 9 years after this series.
That's what I was thinking.
She did try it in the books and she did use the force but not consistently
Obi Wan was ordered to protect Luke by Yoda, he was his responsibility. Leia was supposed to be Bail's responsibility.
Glad to know you and I are both prequel lovers!
First two episodes were a good start, young Leia was perfect casting & Ewan McGregor back as Obi Wan was great to see
Hello There! Fun fact : Vect is Flea, the Bass guitarist of the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers :)
Reva is obviously one of the kids from the opening Order 66 scene.
Personally I hope they show more of Leia's backstory simply because we all know Luke's story backwards and forwards and this would be a nice unique change, to be honest for me the real star of the series was little leia
Darth Vader at the end of Episode 2 got me hyped, so good to have Hayden Christensen back.
Obi Wan thinking of, the former Empress Satin or the friend in Padme, who was a queen? Both were strong and both were leaders
ofc then they might also have retcon Star Wars Rebels by ending the grand inquisitor? just hope Reva is written out quickly
The foundations have been laid. I love all the star wars lore gaps being filled. And quite masterfully too. Thank God!
It gives us good reason for her calling her son ben
Obi knew Anakin became Vader via the hologram footage. But he was sure Anakin died from burning and his injuries. Vader has the suit already as we saw him in it in episode 3 and Rouge One, this is after episode 3 so he's just out of the suit and healing in the tank.
I'm thinking Reva blames Obi-Wan for Anakin and the slaughter of the Jedi and younglings at the temple.
I guess she was one of the younglings at the begining of the episode...
Obi-Wan looks rode hard and put away wet 🤠 loved the review especially in regards to her majesty
Love these first two episodes! Can't wait to see where it goes
The first 2 episodes was real good Leah was real smart At just 10 years old love the video Mary stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
Vect is played by Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, he’s been in other things, notably Back to the Future Parts 2 and 3.
I just realized the Order 66 done was a one shot
Hello There Mary🍒. It’s wonderful to see you 🌺 Enjoy ✝️
Kinda wished you watched The Clone Wars and Rebels, it would've given so much more context
Young Leia gives me Lyanna Mormont vibes.
Those flashbacks are my favorite part so far
There's another New Hope connection: the toy Obi Wan tried to give to Luke is the toy Luke is seen playing with in a New Hope.
“A surprise for sure, but a welcome one.” I see what you did, Marry Cherryy.
My mom and I loved the first 2 episodes of this show, we were impressed, watched it yesterday
That spice is hella strong! It ! made you sneeze right after it broke 😁🤧
xD
Recap gave me chills quick and got me right into it.
So no one is gonna talk about Mary's outfit? Summer vibes are strong with this one
Legendary start Loveing this show so far 💙🎆🌋🤘
I love lil Leia and it kinda breaks my heart that Carrie Fisher never got to see this and meet her
She would've loved the kid's performance.
Little Leia is the most precious thing since Dafne Keen in Logan.
Carrie Fisher would have been proud.
"Do you not want to be so SUS," I died laughing!!!!!!!
at the table scene in ep 3 Obi agrees to look after Luke and Bail agrees to look after Leia. He didn't feel obligated to protect her at first as he agreed tp protect Anakin.
The Grand Inquisitor survives; the character first appeared in Season 1 of Star Wars: Rebels, which is set another 5 years after this series.
23:25 😂
Also I love how much of a Star Wars fan you’ve become, making meme references and everything lol
Ewan McGregor announced that the show's premiere date was changed to the 27th, so that's why we got the first two episodes in one day.
I was counting down all day to this, midnight pst, and then saw a note that they dropped a few hours early. d'oh.
Luke needs to be protected more because if the Darkside finds him he could be turned to the Darkside and he would be incredibly powerful. However Obi-Wan did promise Yoda that he would look after the boy more than anything
The prequels are my favorite as well.
Nice Princess Bride reference, I made that connection when I watched the kidnapping scene.
The kidnapper reminded me of a cross between Vicini and Yondo from Guardians of the Galaxy
Its awesome that the guy that took Leia was Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
I love love that shirt. Can't wait so far obi wan series is of to a good start.
yes it the younglings that escape order 66 that we saw in begin of show now it 10 years later and one of them when to the darkside sister 3 Revia also that one women to sell drugs to obiwan episode , EASTER EGG THAT was Ewan McGregor daughter
Great episode. Kind if wish, when asking Obi Wan for help they said "help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope" just as a bit of a throw back.
Would've been too on the nose I think
"I don't know why Luke is more important than Leia." They are both important, Ben said that he will look after Luke specifically so in a way he promised to do that. I'm sure in his mind Leia was going to remain safe with the Organas in their royal household, that Darth Vader wouldn't be able to track her since he had no idea that Luke has a twin sister.
Jimmy Smitts is such a great actor, I'm really glad he came back to the series.
You should check him out in Dexter and The Tommy Knockers
A friend and I are speculating that Anakin himself was the one to collect Reva to become an Inquisitor, hence how she knows.
I see Leia takes after her mother Padme. You know.....with all the decoys
I wasn’t expecting so much Leia time but I’m here for it!!!!!!
