those concrete cylinders are for testing the psi. They collect them when they pour and often make more than they need. They are put in a hydraulic press and squeeze them until they break.
This was great. The fellas played and commented so well. True professionals. Last thing...Nate Sexton is the best there is at this. Easy and fun to listen too. No long winded bs. Believe many would agree that for us novices concerning this cool game, he makes it easy to watch and listen too. All 3 guys together is a fkn all star team of commentators. Well done.
Always enjoy the three of you together, but this one was somehow even better than usual. Y'all were tearing up the commentary, and, apparently the course, as well. Well done!
@@stoatzsanswich8744they don’t break every sample cylinder. They typically test at 7 days 28 days and if the 28 days fail to meet strength they need samples to test at 56 days. That often leaves a lot of unbroken test cylinders.
I was gonna say they should have given a shout out to Paul's -8 front 9 (matching Gannon), but they did give him credit at the end at least (beating Gannon). Nice job Uli!
Larry Fitzgerald literally has more tackles as a wide receiver than he has dropped passes in his career. 41 tackles, 29 drops in 17 seasons, he has the best hands in the history of the NFL.
We forget these guys are pulling double duty all the time w commentary and playing! Its one thing to do it here and there but they are doing it what 20+ times a year! But they are so humble that I think they forget we know why they are on Jomez, like cause they are the best players and they are the reason Jomez is so good!
I’m taking a trip to the USDGC in October (my first disc golf tournament ever), and I really hope I get to see Mr. Sexton! He seems like a really fun witty guy. Oh Uli and Jerm also! 😊
No matter how much I watch the new Jomez format I'm still annoyed by not having all the score cards at the bottom of the screen. I know you won't change anything but it has made me watch a whole lot more Gatekeeper.
Please show us more shots filmed from behind the player when putting, seeing players perspective of a putt is much more exciting. No way to tell how far player is when its filmed behind the basket, Gannon made 45 feet putt, from that angel it looked like 20 footer.
I feel the same way about how they show drives. Too often they show it from behind the player for a split second then immediately switch to the catch cam for the rest of the flight. I want to see how it flies from the player's perspective much more than from the basket's.
How good can disc golfers become? An awful lot better than now, that's for sure. As disc-tracking technology is moulded into discs, and the incomes ramp up, it will be possible to have a full-time coach. Once that happens, the level will jump quite dramatically.

Those concrete cylinders are from concrete testing. For important jobs, like power plans, bridges, building foundations, and stuff like that, concrete gets tested and put into cylinder molds, which makes those cylinders. At certain increments, cylinders are broken in a press to measure their compressive strength. Once the strength is met, any remaining cylinders are gotten rid of, so those are probably all extra cylinders that weren’t needed. I actually do that for work, I make the cylinders. For another week anyway, and I’m moving on to construction management
@@michaelgazdecki That is absurd. Even when he seems like he's having a bad round it somehow always ends up like five to ten under and you know he'll shred the next day. So awesome to watch.
He left a lot out there, end of round 2 and beginning of this round. He is so close, but it does seem like he is either a slow starter or bad finisher.
@@anhyzered6650 It is hard to penalize a guy for being the most consistent player on tour! His average finish is 2.5 this year. No one is close to that.
Young structural engineer here, those concrete cylinders surrounding greens are most likely test samples for civil or commercial projects using concrete. They are compressed until failure, at which point the force is recorded to ensure it is meeting the specified concrete strength. Construction projects have 7, 14, 28 and 56 day concrete strength tests and enough cylinders are taken for all of four those tests. If the specified concrete strength is met before the 56 day strength test, the leftover cylinders are discarded. I’d imagine there is a concrete plant nearby in Kentucky that donated them! Great idea by the course designer and maintenance crew!
I can assure you that the concrete cores are not from a nuclear power plant, as those would be highly controlled by the NRC. They're either from sample testing, or from core drilling in new building construction to run conduit, pipe, etc.
Have to disagree with the discs. Now we have just more manufacturers making their version of aviar, buzz, teebird, firebird and destroyer to put it bluntly. Maybe the approach disc genre is a new addition but it’s more due to players being able to pitch speed 4 glideless discs consistently inside 300ft range.
Crazy thing about this season for Gannon Buhr: He tried (or so we assume) getting out of his contract with Prodigy into a bigger contract. After all that... he may get an even bigger contract based on how he has played this year. Keep it up young man!
It's like we knew about Gannon being a phenom, but we all wanted BigSexyBari commentary to be playing on lead card. Congrats to good golf all around! There's been past years of Calvin being around top 10. This year it's like top 3 every tournament, incredible run.
This seems like a good place to ask this question. I've been playing for about 3 months and use 2 discs, a River and an A4. I use 2 discs because I only own 2 disc btw lol. I'm to the point where I can throw the A4 about 200ft or so, and the River around 300ish. Is that about the max those discs should go, or am I doing something wrong? I'm very much self-taught, and NONE of my friends play, so it's pretty much just solo rounds.
No you can definitely get more distance from both of those discs. Just keep throwing, watch some pros and the way they spin the disc. It's all about that nose angle and snap with the perfect timing at release. A lot of time, less effort and smoother form will improve your distance. But hey, being able to throw 300-350 with accuracy will help you score on most courses. It's pretty rare that you actually need 450-500 feet of power to be good at disc golf. Putting, upshots with touch, and accurate shots in the woods will save you the most strokes.
Hole 12, Calvin had to have a tee reset. Right as he was about to throw, a little girl was stung by a burrowing wasp and started screaming like crazy. Lasted about two minutes. Might have thrown him off for that shot.
Loved Nate’s closing comments and words he had for Uli!
Nate mentions "the fire". Is that literal or a metaphore for something Uli was dealing with?
Awesome to see Uli and Jerm with strong finishes, and have the band all together for commentary.
Well done guys.
Uli & Jerm did so great and Sexton did awesome as well for his first idlewild!
It truly blows my mind how much excellent commentary can elevate my enjoyment of a disc golf round as much as it does with these guys!
This tournament was an absolutely pleasure to watch and to listen to.
Both congratulations and thanks to the commentary team.
So proud of you Uli!

Parallel jokes between the two commentary teams about what to call the so called "wall" on Hole 11 lmao.. too good.
