I have one that I got working with a new 12v supply. The colours are actually from a light phosphor coating on the inside of the glass. I believe the discharge is in low-pressure argon.
Well, Mine has been around since between 2003, and 2004. I'm impressed that the original power supply still works, and even more impressed the gas lighting hasn't degraded and dimmed. I haven't used the lamp heavily though. I used to have one of the traditional plasma balls, and that wore out in a couple months. Maybe it was defective, but it should have lasted longer, I would have thought. Anyway, glad you got yours working. Have a great day!
@@macinman Mine was missing the original power supply so I adapted one. An old DirecTV switch power supply which is pennies at the local thrift store and super reliable.
Considering I purchased this in the very late 90's to early 2000's this exact model may not be for sale any longer.
