His quote should be cancel cultured out of existence because he owned slaves.
Wasn’t he a also major force in the fight for emancipation?
People do dumb shit. And “owning” a human being counts. Even if it may have been considered ok then.
But why forget all the good.
Slave ownership aside, I think most people would consider him a “good” person.
@@Don-uo5bm man he wasn't a good person and if you think that he was then maybe you are not a good person.or maybe you need to think about what a good person is. Now Jefferson was a great man because he did great things. He was a brilliant man because he did brilliant things. He was one of the people to help start this great nation so he is great. He owned human beings like you would own a goat or a dog , there is nothing good about that. One slave in particular ( He is rumored to have had dozens of children with women that he enslaved) he even kept in his house as a bed wench and there was nothing his wife could do about it, he was a Thomas Jefferson. He is said to father six children with her. A good man a great man are totally different things. He was a great man but certainly not a good person
I feel the same way- it can be divisive. We need to focus more on the HUMAN race.
It isn't divisive at all. There are things that you will learn during Black history month that you wouldn't learn about during the regular American history curriculum. Have you heard of Cassius Marcellus Clay? He was a n abolitionist and Kentucky Congressmen. Muhammad Ali father was named after him and Ali was named after his father
What about John Newton? An Abolitionist who once was a slave ship captain who helped to end the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade,he also wrote the song Amazing Grace. Black history month isn't white hate month. It simply tells stories of the Black experience in America and people of all races contributed to this. Officer T call black people dumb for observing this time of year. He things that we are losers because it only has 28 days. The Irony is that it was chosen for a white man and black man birthday. Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. That is the opposite of divisive. It's the Black part he doesn't like
@@d.d.sarason8749 these are things you can educate yourself about on your own. There’s no need to dedicate a whole month to our history. The fact that you felt the need to tell someone this when black history month has been going on for years proves how ineffective it is. Add all of these to the curriculum and get rid of the month. Simple.
@@juda210 in a perfect world, but some people would complain that black people are getting to proud of their rise from being livestock to being treated as human beings. What do you mean ineffective. What do you think the mission of BHM is. The Irony of Officers T lie is that it wasn't given to black people because it's the shortest month (that's really stupid BTW) . It was chosen by a black man to honor two men a Black one and a White one. As Important as this BHM fact I am about to share with you is, it isn't a part of the regular American history curriculum. After the Civil War and the Emancipation of black people
It was suggested that they be repatriated back to Africa or moved to Central America. Those two men and some Washington DC area clergymen black and white said that Black people would be foreigner in Africa and have been in the US as long as there was a USA. And every since then we have been trying to figure a way to be cohesive.BHM isn't mandatory and you don't need it to gain a diploma. It is simply a time of year that could educate you on The Black experience in the US and not just Black people contributed to this. Officer T propaganda is working pretty good on the people that are trying to figure out a way to make it divisive when his lie is doing a good job

At one time this was a win, however there should have been a progression through the decades to phase it out and add black achievements into our history books.
That part!!! It actually started out a week to recognize "our history" we NEED recognition REGARDLESS!!! Imaging being taught you're from Kings and Queens and great inventors and leaders....
But you guys don't get it. What's the point of recognizing people's achievements because of their skin color? All it does is create division and then people start a contest over which side is better. Why not talk about everybody being americans which does not create division? I don't know a single white person that goes around arguing with people over the accomplishments of white people.

I went to Mexico to visit relatives when I was a child. Now, I grew up in a black housing project and was bussed to a white school. A little bit of me was happy that I'd be soon surrounded by people who looked like me - brown. That didn't happen. I got into a lot of fights that summer. Those kids told me to my face that I wasn't Mexican. They told me I was American. I never forgot that. Damn straight I am an American.

Wow that's the first time you ever heard that? I've been hearing that since I was a kid and I'm about to turn 49 in two weeks.
February was chosen by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926, when he created the first Negro History Week. It was later increased to the full month. Perhaps if they taught us that and more in school we wouldn't have to designate a month to our un-taught History!

Only because most of us can't trace our real roots past 400 years ago. Everyone one on this earth have a tongue, Americas tongue is now blended but, our society wasn't when the just recent past black history was unfolding. American by Generation Maybe,? To know that your ancestors were stolen, raped, murdered, and not given the basic human rights offered even to a criminal today because of skin color or where you are from, I can see wanting to forget but, we would have to forget Kobe Bryant or our mother, our father, family members too. Someone said the same thing about the month chosen in one of my college classes. I waited for the professor to correct her and she did not. So, not to embarrass her, I called the over to me and explained why February was chosen for Black History month... Fredrick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln both share birthdays in February. Also, a black man, Carter Woodson designated the 2nd week in February as Negro History Week!!
