    STORYLINE
    Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was welcomed by Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday at the start of his three-day state visit to Britain.
    Da Silva, known as "Lula," is travelling with a delegation of cabinet ministers and Brazilian business leaders for a visit intended to promote trade between the two nations and boost cooperation in a range of areas including fighting AIDS and improving education.
    After a ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards and a carriage ride down the Mall to Buckingham Palace, da Silva and his wife will have lunch with the queen and visit an exhibition of Brazilian artworks from the royal collection.
    They will attend a state banquet on Tuesday evening at the palace, where they are staying.
