  • “Not everybody will be able to know what you want and if you really want people to hear you and if you want people to support you: if we sit in a place, you know, try to be victims, I think it may be challenging for us in the long run. But if we get up and say that this is what I want to do or this is what I feel I would be able to do, and this is what I feel.”
Words by and in this video: Sonu Periera, Fellow, Ummeed Inclusion Fellowship Program (UIFP)
Sonu is a disability specialized social worker, self-advocate for visual impairment, an animal lover, a singer/performing artist and currently inclusion champion at Ummeed Child Development Center.
Sonu Periera (visually impaired) shares a heartfelt message for people with disabilities, encourages them to advocate for themselves and spells out what self-advocacy could be like for them in simple ways.
Video Description: A young person wearing a black shirt and blue pants shares her thoughts while sitting on a chair with 4 columns of red, yellow, green chairs stacked up over each other in the background. This cuts back and forth with her close up shot. We see a childhood picture of her. We also see other pictures where she is sitting by the sea on a raised platform, singing on stage in a light blue saree, petting a dog and receiving her degree at her convocation.
