- The new Warrior Cats book has a lot of information to process, and here are my best guesses as to what's going on and who is the big villain!

ANOTHER THING!!! The whole medicine cats cant have mates or babies was created because Mothflight grieved for so long over Micah. We see in the book that Frostpaw greived for her mother JUST AS LONG!!! she also abandoned her duties to grieve, causing mothwing to become overwhelmed. This throws the whole rule out the window

I can't believe we have a genuine murder mystery where we don't know anything about the crime, just clues, and this feels so refreshing. If I had a nickel for every time we had a proper murder mystery in warrior cats, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it's only happened twice. The other being Ashfur's murder.
Redtail doesn't count as it was revealed book 1. Firestar's death in Sunrise doesn't count we are literally told during the thing that Hawkfrost did it.

I know! So many former warriors readers think that the new books are too strange, (and they are a little weird) but the plots are so much more related to the warriors past and present life!

I personally am really suspicious of Shimmerpelt! I just searched her name in my ebook and she's mentioned together with Duskfur ELEVEN TIMES.
She’s been around forever, I so hope that she’s becoming important!!
Maybe she's part of the conspiracy. That would provide additional explanation on why Curlfeather told Frostpaw not to choose the obvious choices (Which included both Duskfur and Shimmerpelt).
Maybe after offing her daughter, she promised Shimmerpelt deputyship. Wiki doesn’t say who her mentor was so maybe we can guess it was Duskfur and so Shimmerpelt looks up to her.

@@user-xb7dr6fm5v all the means is we don’t know who her mentor is. She just appears in Bramblestar’s Storm as a full warrior, so she was born and apprenticed in the time between the end of The Last Hope and before the Super Edition. We don’t know who it is, so it could easily have been ANYONE.
An interesting conversation in Sky that stuck with me is Duskfur asking Frostpaw if she was sure Curlfeather was in Starclan.
Duskfur what is your deal. What are you scheming. Why are you implying your daughter might not be in cat heaven.
Imagine that that’s what she wanted!! :0 maybe Duskfur is/was working with the dark forest too!
I don’t really think Duskfur is out of power directly but she values herself more because 1: She’s a senior warrior
And 2: she does have good qualities for being leader.
But that doesn’t mean she would be a good one, her personality lacks the empathy she needs for something like leading a whole clan.
She's trying to make Frostpaw believe Curlfeather might not actually be in StarClan and is making her believe she's using her for her own intentions so Frostpaw will turn away from her mother immediately running to her kin Duskfur for advice leading her into Duskfurs trap
I think Duskfur's grief is fake, and she is just trying to make it seem like she didn't kill her own daughter. Do you remember in Bluestar's Prophecy, when Bluefur became deputy, Thistleclaw faked being supportive, yowling her name louder than anyone else? I'm just saying it's happened before...

Wow I love Dakota’s Duskfur drawing and design! She would make the perfect villain!
This would also be even more interesting if Kate’s theory that Reedwhisker is Duskfur’s mate was true, like she once loved Reedwhisker, but after he became deputy instead of her she became jealous, and of course, Curlfeather and Podlight were just kits at the time so they obviously wouldn’t remember Reedwhisker is they’re father, so Duskfur manipulated Curlfeather into going against him and later on in ASC Reedwhisker and Curlfeather reunite in StarClan and they forgive each other

@@BitterCyder canonically they’re not, it was never mentioned in the books but it’s what Kate put into her “improved allegiances list” on her blog but it was never used in the books, also Jayclaw was originally called Jaywing, but I think we all know why that idea was scrapped!
Reedwhisker was too much of a mama's boy to take a mate, even in death he's hanging out with Mistystar in starclan. Just kidding, I love Bluestar and hate that her bloodline has been erased, so I love the idea of reed fathering a litter.
Isn't it possible there's multiple villans and factions in this arc, duskfur and her Riverclan rebels, berryheart and her inner circle, and possibly tigerstar 2.0 taking his grandfather's place of bringing chaos to the clans, all these different groups possibly fighting each other would be pretty interesting. Oh yeah, and maybe a random mapleshade appearance to do mapleshade things.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mapleshade popped in. After hearing it somewhere and then researching on the Warriors Wiki, it turns out both Mistystar and Reedwhisker both are related to Appledusk and Reedshine. Mapleshade probably would have helped the Big Bad kill Reedwhisker. For Mistystar, I think they just got lucky and she died of a heart attack, old age, something like that.

@@minecraftstar_ yep, the fact that both mistystar AND Reedwhisker died, relatively around the same time just made me instantly think about mapleshade. With both of them dead, her Vengeance would actually be complete. Although apparently somehow stormfur is also related to Appledusk, so idk, but it's a heck of a coincidence that misty and reed are both dead.
I don’t see Berryheart being a true villain, like one with evil intentions to just benefit her. She’s always had her kin and clan in mind when it came to the code and the “clan-swappers”
But that doesn’t mean she’s going to be innocent in all this, heck she’s already trying to get fringewhisker in trouble. While I do pity her for what she went through before and I understand how she feels, it’s still not justified nor right and HOPEFULLY she will see that. Either Sunbeam will make her realize it or she’ll be too far from redemption
Tigerstars have a thing for merging Shadowclan with Riverclan under their control, don't they?
If I had a nickel for everytime a Tigerstar has tried to merge shadowclan and riverclan, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it’s happened twice

I personally don’t think Tigerstar’s intentions are linked to any conspiracy personally, he’s proven himself to be a relentless bully that will start a fight to get his own way (ie the sisters situation in SqH) so I think it was only a matter of time before he turned on another clan rather than going after another outside group. I think that he believes his motivations are noble, but deep down I think that this is just a revenge quest for Rowankit since he believes that RiverClan deliberately withheld catmint. (You don’t turn up to their camp before dawn with almost all your warriors and then threaten to kill cats until you get your way when your intentions are good ones). Whether that catmint was planted is another question, but whatever is going on in RiverClan I feel that Tigerstar isn’t aware of. I think now that RiverClan is under his control, I don’t think he’s going to let them become independent easily- and I feel that Berryheart might manipulate the situation to rally enough cats to vote him out of being leader, especially if now that RiverClan can join in on the vote since they’re under Tigerstar’s rule.
I always thought they would implement the new rule for Bramblestar, since boy is CLEARLY going through it. But THIS.

Yeah I really think the situation is going to end up badly for Tigerheartstar, especially once the other leaders learn about what he’s doing.
I’m curious to see what Leafstar’s potential role might be, since she’s on the cover with him for Shadow. I highly doubt she’ll team up with him though.

She was extremely opposed to his idea of governing RiverClan and considering she shares a border with him as well I don’t think that would rest easy with her. What if he ends up wanting more? SkyClan would be at the most immediate risk.

Definitely. Especially with the history of Shadowclan and Skyclan’s relationship (with the former dissolving and having to be taken in by Skyclan). Hell that history may even be brought up and Tigerstar could call her hypocritical. Love political tension haha.
I will LITERALLY throw a party if they vote TigerHeart out as leader LMFAOOO. I HATE that guy with a burning passion, even moreso than BrambleStar. Like yeah BrambleStars reputation has gone down the drain over time but he isnt nearly as *blatantly cruel* as TigerHeart. AND when you pair this up with how horrible he was towards DoveWing in previous books (... the stalking, manipulation, guilt tripping, etc...) it all just goes to show he isnt as good of a cat as people want to pretend

I believe Splashtail was the one who left the curled feather omen. It would've been on either Dusk's or Curl's orders ofc. But I think he was the one who physically carried out the act.

I think this is actually true as of Shadow.
I am so thankful that they are finally dragging RiverClan into the center of attention. The new book gave me a sort of breath of fresh air. We were so wrapped up with ThunderClan in the last ark, and now that Nightheart left, it leaves us no story inside of TC. I think that the authors are doing great with the new murder mystery plot, and I cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Yes yes! After so long we have a female villain that is actually a part of the Clans! It’s been so long since this, and I really hope they end the whole evil rogue/ghost villain trope. I don’t really read the new books anymore but this is still interesting

Splashtail makes a good deputy but he needs a leader to guide him, just like Owlnose I do not see him being fit for leader but with time I could see Splashstar being a thing.

Oh no… it’s Hawkfrost and Ashfur manipulating Shadowsight and Mothwing all over again.
Also, Bramblestar’s probably gonna retire. He’s clearly losing his mind after the problem with Ashfur. He’s only shown up one time in this book and there hasn’t been a single gathering as far as I could tell!
Sadly, Duskfur may ruin things in RiverClan. But if Mothwing does become leader… that isn’t an obvious choice and it makes sense! Because that’s the name of the series at the moment and we ALL practically know Mothwing has NO connection to StarClan and this may be her chance to get one! Besides, don’t we recall in River, Frostpaw suggested Mothwing, but she refused, because she’s already a medicine cat? It makes sense that the least obvious cat would be Mothwing to lead RiverClan!
Mothwing being leader is a dangerous step though. She has the qualities for one but she doesn’t know any combat. It’d be weird if a warrior had to teach the leader how to be a warrior.

I would love to see Mothwing as a leader but I love her too much as a character for that. She has stated multiple times throughout the books that not only does she not have the skills, she does not want to. And I wouldn’t want her to be forced into the position.
The only reason I don't want Mothstar is because then we'd have three clans being run by Tigerstar's kin which is... unpreferable. Again that's my only complaint about Mothstar, if we didn't have Bramblestar and Tigerheartstar I'd be 100% on board with Mothstar.
Ima be honest rn I’m convinced it’s splashtail and the only reason I rlly do tho is how frostpaw “died” (I believe she’s not ganna end up dieing cuz we just met her and shadowsight survived the basically impossible) and it’s because he was the only cat to know she was going to riverclan and what she was doing, it makes me think that it’s one of three things, splashtail is the villain, hes working with the villain, or the real villain overheard their conversation somehow

You know what could be so awesome that will probably never happen? If sunbeam turns out to be the villain and we get her POV as a villain and then she kind of stabs Nightheart in the back and kills him and then he’s in starclan and we’re getting an inside starclan POV, and frostpaw has to to try and figure all of this out.

I definitely think Duskfur is behind all this. And Shimmerpelt and Splashtail are a part of her group as well. I think Duskfur is pushing Splashtail to get close to Frostpaw and act as her friend so she can manipulate her further as well as know what's going on inside Frostpaw's head. And I bet Splashtail was the one to tell Owlnose to not go through with getting his nine lives and to step down as leader or else. Or possibly Duskfur did if Owlnose is also a part of her group. I also wouldn't be surprised if Duskfur was just faking being sad about Curlfeather's death. Or maybe she was sad, but only because she was (in her mind) forced to kill Curlfeather after she got in the way.
These theories are actually really good. I never really expected these two to do this, but after hearing you making your points, I finally realised. I'm excited to see if Duskfur is the villain and it would be great to see another female antagonist!
Duskfur and Curlfeather working together, with the goal of Duskfur becoming leader, then Curlfeather trying to squeeze out getting more power, and subsequently being betrayed reminds me a bit of Dr. Eggman and Dr. Starline in the IDW Sonic comics... interesting.
SOMETHING ELSE TO ADD: In sky and river Duskfur seems to be going against all the choices of who is going to be leader and seems as if she's trying to make Owlnose and Splashtail doubt the own choices. Duskfur seems to be always pointing out Owlnose and Splashtail's "mistakes". She's trying to convince Mothwing to make her leader cause she can make the "right" choices.
I would love to see Mothwing become leader because there would be so many troubles with not being able to get her lives, forcing her to believe in StarClan and would explain the arc's name.

I don't know but Finchlight keeps getting drop-hinted at being 'off' or atleast somewhat - so far there's nothing to support that claim from Kate. I would love a sister vs brother dynamic between Finch and Night. Nothing is confirmed yet, but maybe.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I heard somewhere that one of the Erin’s said “watch out for Finchpaw” or something a while ago while we were still in the last arc.
Also is it just me or is Bayshine acting a little weird as well? In River he was fairly supportive and a friend to Flamepaw but now he just acts like everyone else. At this point, one of the most supportive characters (in my opinion) seems to be Jayfeather. And something I wish would happen but probably won't is this:
Nightheart joins ShadowClan (he seems to be going to do that anyway) but he still gets harassed about being Firestar's kin. He eventually gets driven mad by all of it, and although he lives up to his kin, he doesn't exactly live up to Firestar. Bramblestar is his kin too (something that he is always nagged about), but that means Tigerstar 1st is as well. He becomes evil and acts like Tigerstar, eventually ruling ShadowClan like Tigerstar did, but making ThunderClan realise how wrong they have been.

I personally think that this series could have multiple villains. Ex. Duskfur and some RiverClan cats, Berryheart and her rebel group, Tigerstar 2, and maybe even Mapleshade and Frecklewish. I'll state my reasons for all of them being villains below.
1. Duskfur.
I think Duskfur would make the PERFECT villain, she is super ambitious and sus. Your theory's prove it, she might be a villain.
I also believe that Shimmerpelt could be on her side bc they are almost always together. (Shimmer x Dusk!
I don’t see Tigerstar 2 being relatively evil. Riverclan DID need that push, they’ve needed that help ever since reedwhisker and mistystar died. I understand that the way he invaded was like.. not cool especially after they had denied help and it does seem like he’s trying to take over. But again, riverclan NEEDS this push, they’ve been stubborn for too long and need good stabilization until the next leader comes along.

I have the wildest theory :p
Sunbeam rejects Nightheart bc she doesn’t fully love him and she still wants a relationship with Berryheart and guess which clan is in need of a leader and is in ShadowClan currently, RiverClan! Nightheart feeling broken down and betrayed yet again teams up with broken down RiverClan. Nightheart would be the cat that isnt an obvious choice! Owlnose went to the Moon pool to guide Nightheart and Owlnose ends up dying saving Nightheart from ShadowClan’s patrol, thought after he dies Berryheart pretends to not see Nightheart and sends Sunbeam and Gullswoop to look for them. Berryheart helps Nightheart get to the moon pool and tells him shes heard stories of Nightstar the fake leader and his good heart being swept out and taken over by Tigerstar. She would say “Night will beat Tiger now.” and walk off. When Nightstar gets back he leads RiverClan to battle now having most of ShadowClan have hatred for Tigerstar as they realized how he took over another clan and such. Tigerstar ends up retreating and going to the moon pool to atone and Cloverfoot becomes the honorary leader until Tigerstar gets back from speaking with StarClan. Nightstar chooses Splashtail as deputy. Which Splashtail declines saying now that they finally are back together he’d like to rest. So Minnowtail (THE BEST RC CAT NO ONE CAN TELL ME OTHERWISE, but cats who are responsible like her can substitute ) becomes deputy.

Bramblestar's usual aging self aside, a show I watch gave me a new perspective on it. In season four of a show called The Dragon Prince (totally recommended, btw, just be warned the art style...takes getting used to), we have our protagonist Callum getting possessed by the big bad by way of an introduction. Baddy doesn't really do much apart from taunting Callum's buddies about how he's aware of them all and their shortcomings, and the possession only lasts a few seconds, but that's not the point. Callum spends the rest of the season terrified of it, to the point where he eventually asks one of his companions to kill him if it happens again.

To be fair, I thought Curl was in Starclan, and "looking Beyond the obvious" meant Night was going to enter Riverclan as he seemed interested in doing, and eventually will be "Nightstar".
The villain though, I had never tried to deduce. Just that Lightleap probably had something to do with Reedwhisker dying due to how shifty she is.
I also believe Tigerstar truly is trying to help and has no ill will.

I feel like Lightheart is also a villain. She DID come back from the border with blood on her fur. She might've killed Reedwhisker, or at least helped. But I forget which border she came back from, so I could be wrong.
Also, who thinks that Bristlefrost's death was really unrealistic, even for warrior cats?! Solid bodies can't just disappear, even though the authors could easily dismiss that. Her body could have just fell into the moonpool.

There is precedent for it actually. Beetlewhisker in OOTS was killed by Brokenstar after attempting to leave the Dark Forest, and his body was never found according to Mothwing’s novella and Dovewing’s powers in The Last Hope. His clanmates searched for him but they never found him, and I don’t believe he was mentioned to be in Starclan OR the Dark Forest as a ghost/spirit in the following books.
So her body disappearing wasn’t completely out of the blue.
I don’t see her being a evil villain but she’s definitely up to something and has a part in this for sure.

Just wanted to say, something that would make more since is that maybe starclan still let Curlfeather in because of the love for her kit and that her death was unfair and brutal. If Ashfur made it to starclan Curlfeather might be able to too. Cuz I don’t think what Curlfeather did was worse than what Ashfur did. Unless she killed her mate, which is unlikely. Or if she is responsible for Reedwhiskers death, But that very likely could have just been Duskfur killing him. Maybe she sent the dogs that killed Curlfeather to kill Reedwhikser. Idk why Frostpaw only saw her clearly tho, might just be a stupid mistake.
My one thing is how did they plan Mistystar's death. Maybe she was poisoned?
If Squirrelflight becomes leader can Twigbranch become the deputy.
I agree with Dusk being a villan. However, I don't think it was her plan to kill Misty as she did.
Instead, I believe the original plan was that after Reed had died Mistystar would chose either her or Curlfeather as new deputy, and only then would Misty have an "accident" (so basically, the same plot Tigerclaw had with Bluestar). But then when Misty had a heart attack this forced her to improvise.
Edit: Though I never considered the idea that Dusk might have killed Curl, I just assumed Duskfur, Curlfeather and Splashtail conspired together. And that Curl just had a change of heart before dying.
Though, Dusk murdering her own kit would certainly be a really good reveal if it turns out to be true (I'm still holding out hope for my Sleekwhisker theory, but this one is really interesting too).
From the future, you where right about Curlfeather manipulating Frostpaw so she could be leader. Great job!

I'd love this, but I feel like Harestar might be the new villian...I mean, we got a major hint when he rushed the emergency gathering.
I don't want to believe that Curlfeather would do that. I'm thinking that maybe Duskfur manipulated Curlfeather? I think that probably makes more sense.
Duskfur left the feather so that on the way to the moonpool, for her daughter to die.
One small thing about Tigerstar planting that catmint, the catmint that was in RiverClan's stores were stated to be dry. If Tigerstar had Fidgetflake plant it then that means ShadowClan or SkyClan had some dried catmint that could've been used on Rowankit. It would be an interesting idea, and explain how Tigerstar knew of the catmint in RiverClan, but I don't think the cat mint gathered on the patrol would've been described as that dry at that point in the story (which was implied to be a couple days to a week maybe two at the max(?) in between the catmint patrol returning home and Fidgetflake joining RiverClan to help them with their leadership issues.

2. What do you think is going on with Bramblestar? Is he getting alzheimer? I get that vibes from him :/

I believe it is splashtail,Spoliers for the new arc,it is reviled it was not a accident and it was someone in riverclan.After frostpaw says her visions aren’t real splashtail seems disappointed so maybe he was manipulating her “Visons” perhaps he was planning to give a vision that he’s the next leader.And the only cat the frostpaw told that her and curlfeather were going to the moon pool was splashtail,so he might have planned the dog attack as he wanted to be leader.Also splashtail admits he “loves” frostpaw but he would want her to be a warrior with him if he wanted to be mates,so he’s most likely manipulating her to think that he “Loves” her
I’d be happy if this theory was true, we’ve been needing a female villain other than Mapleshade (and Darktail’s bullies) for some time now. And it wouldn’t just be a female villain, it would be an *interesting* female villain

This was one year ago, but if you read the last book, SplashTail is the villain, and the one who killed CurlFeather and ReedWhisker(But also CurlFeather was evil and now in the dark forest??)

I think Curlfeather had herself die so she could do what Ashfur did to get to the Dark Forest and rule it, or just to harm Starclan. I’m still suspicious of lightleap though

One thing i wondered about is this: right after Curlfeather died, Mothwing was talking to Frostpaw back at the camp. As Frostpaw looked into Mothwing's eyes, Curlfeather's last words "trust no cat" echoed in her head. Could it be...Mothwing?
Wow. Duskfur was the last cat I thought would be the villain, but reasonable points.
duskfur's grief is still reasonably explainable, it's her daughter that is dead and potential double crossing aside(surprise third party involvement is still on the table) that hadn't changed
I don't think Curlfeather consciously manipulated someone easily influenced by her into the medicine cat position, in order to seize power, ala Hawkfrost, but...sometimes people believe what they want to believe, if that makes any sense. As for Splashtail, I disagree that there's nothing suspicious about him in Sky. Why did Owlnose, who's claim to power is shaky to begin with, pick a very young warrior with no mentorship experience to be his deputy? What dirt does Splashtail have on Owlnose? Or if it's not a matter of blackmail, maybe it's a matter of threats. I really do think it's possible that Duskfur, freshly grieving her dead daughter, was scared into silence by threats against her and her surviving kit, Podlight. I'm not sure how barely-a-year-old Splashtail, who has no obvious connection to Curlfeather, got involved in the RiverClan succession plot but I think he's highjacked it. And, yes, Bramblestar should retire. Please Erin Hunter, just have ThunderClan use the new rule to send their leader to the elder's den so he can just live the rest of his life in peace.

while there is proof that curlfeather could be a villain, how come starclan sent frostpaw a dream right after with a bunch of curled feathers near the moonpool?

If Frostpaw isn't connected to Starclan like Shadowsight (since there isn't any evidence of her being connected to Starclan) then she might become Riverclans new leader and be mates with Splashatil that she mentioned a few times.
I honestly think that Sol will return. Think about it! Sol made ShadowClan not believe in StarClan. And the new arc IS called A Starless Clan. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

my addition to the question of how Duskfur's grief over Curlfeather could be very... confusing? and not even realistic but this is my take
what if Duskfur felt obliged to kill Curlfeather? not callously or anything, but similar to how Brambleclaw was saddened over Hawkfrost's death.
Like Duskfur was /obliged/ to kill Curlfeather; she felt like she was the only one who could 'right' what 'wrongs' Curlfeather did without being revealed.

I love Mothwing but I’d hate a medicine cat leader. Too much responsibility for one cat, way too much power that could be manipulated. Also Ik Bramblestar is overused but I am kind of interested in his plot. He’s acting so out of character, I think he might have something wrong with his brain that will lead him to retire

I know your theory is mostl in riverclan but I want nightheart to get rejected or something by shadowclan then go on a rampage of crazyness we haven't had a main character villain before. Its most unlikely but I wish it would happen.

what if curlfeather was originally against the code stuff, but then she stopped and betrays the other anti code changing cats? frostpaw has a sign of curling feathers, which could have been sent from the dark forest. hypothically for betraying the others, cats lay a trap for curlfeather on her way to the moonpool, and she dies, saying "trust no one". she could be warning frostpaw of the others she may trust?

I thought who killed Reedwhisker was Lightleap, because in River she was found limping alone throught the forest after one of Sunbeams partols heard a yell in the distance at the tme of Reedwhiskers death. I just cant explain why she would kill Reedwhisker, but in the first book thats what I was leaning towards with Lightleap's behavior. Espeshally since her father just took over Riverclan, like his grandfather did.
