This is so beautiful. Even in his winter years, Moe was a master comic. He never lost his touch for the zany and outrageous. He made us smile both then and now.
I was in high school when this aired. It was on in the afternoon and I couldn't get home in time to see it. I was disappointed. This is the first time I've seen it... 35 years later. It's worth it.
So beautiful, just like when Larry ducked and Moe followed him and nailed him. I bet Moe had a blast doing this. Bless The Three Stooges, they live in my heart forever
The rumor is in Mike's book, Moe showed up the day of the taping early in the morning and was sitting in the lobby waiting for him to come to work to go over skits they can do on the show ❤️
@@dragonballsub-zero6632 He was very Type A. He used to memorize all of the other actors' lines in the Stooges shorts, as well as his own, for the sake of timing.
Watching this video makes me wish I was 5 years old again. I would have wanted to jump up on the stage and get in on the action. RIP Moe Howard. Your comedy will never be forgotten.
In Mike Douglas' 1999 autobiography I'll Be Right Back, he writes that arriving at the studio at 8AM, waiting alone in the lobby was Moe Howard, ready with a list of comic bits for consideration in that day's show, and ready to rehearse. Mr. Douglas has said that Moe Howard may have been the most conscientious performer he ever worked with
What an honor it would have been to get hit with a pie by Moe Howard. He has made me laugh so much since I first watched the three stooges when I was little.
@@kachoo2135 I once read Moe traveled to Pennsylvania to see his son, and was asked to speak at a college. During the question-and-answer session, a young man came up on stage with a pie in his hand. Moe frowned because the pie had real fruit in it instead of the whipped or shaving cream pies they used, but the young man would not be dissuaded; Moe threw, the pie exploded, and the man fell backwards. The young man was all smiles. He thanked Moe and returned to his seat.
It's a shame Moe, Larry and Curly havr passed away. It would've been one of the highlights of my life if I could ever be in a pie fight with them. RIP Fellas! You were (are) great!
Me too! I ran home after school so I wouldn't miss a minute of it! I laughed at The Stooges since before I had teeth and my grandmother was a huge Mike fan! As Bob Hope said, "Thanks for the memories!"
Learned so much about the Stooges from this interview, have all 190 plus episodes on DVD and introduced my Nephew to these and he cant get enough of them. The Stooges are and always will be the great equalizer. You can put a nuclear physicist and a hobo in the same room and turn on a stooges short and you can't tell who is who. When I was a kid In the 60's they were promoting the New Three Stooges Cartoon shorts they stopped in SF and I got to see them. Larry was tired, and I never thought Curly Joe was funny but Moe was better than ever and just loved to make people laugh. It's one of my most precious memories, Thanks for sharing this!
This video should be required viewing for anyone wishing to pursue a career in slapstick comedy. Moe Howard has absolutely perfected the art of pie throwing.
I think that Moe Howard was the only person who could discuss the art of pie-throwing as if he was leading a lecture, not to mention that he was probably the only person that you wouldn't mind being the recipient of having him throw a pie in your face.
There is a technique to it, to throw it at someone properly without hurting them. We did a thing at work once where the manager took pies in the face, someone did it too hard and actually gave them a black eye. We're assuming it was an accident 🙄
RIP Moe Howard, Ted Knight and Mike Douglas. This one still has me laughing in tears every time I watch it since the first time I saw it in 1973. God bless you Moe!
Moe Howard...God love you, sir, you were one of a kind and my heavens but you and your brothers and Larry made me laugh myself to tears almost every afternoon after school for years as a kid. This is good, honest humor of a style the world needs to rediscover. RIP boys, you were golden. LONG LIVE THE STOOGES ^.^
Considering that Moe had terminal lung cancer developing at the time, this is one of the greatest captures in cinema history. And God bless Mike Douglas for having been savvy enough to recognize what preserving this means to the rest of us! Four Stars!
The Three Stooges was one of my favorite TV programs always they made me laugh in spite of seeing them again and again, I was a child when you hear one of your show that Moe Howard was dead, so I was very sad and nobody could you explain how I felt in this momnet . today Moe made me laugh again in this video. thanks for sharing. To all the Three Stooges that rest in peace.
i want to thank you for this. it took me back to a time when america was such a better place.i never have laughed as hard as i did when i was a kid and watching the stooges.that was along time ago.nobody can ever do what these boys did.
I was fortunate enough to have Moe as a pen pal back in the 70's when I was in high school. I was able to visit Larry at the Country Hospital too. Both were very nice men and knew how to treat their fans. They were old school entertainers with a lot of class! Miss them very much.
I was born in 1971 and I absolutely LOVE the 3 Stooges. When I was a kid and got home from school if I had any homework, if the Stooges were on my mother would let me watch them first then I'd hit the homework. No other program was worthy of that. Moe, Larry, Shemp and Curly forever!!!!! The 3 Stooges will never die.
I watched all of the Three Stooges episodes when they were shorts in the movies when I was a young boy, to all the reruns. I have watched many of the videos that you have as your favorites. They take my mind off of the real world....
The pie fights are the funniest thing I have ever seen, so much better than the lame comedies we have now...........love the Stodges! Thanks for posting this!
Must have been great for Moe to come on the show and relive sone of the good ole days and that was likely the last pie fight he participated in as well. Thank You Stooges for all the laughter you have brought for generations and many more to come.
Great video! Takes me back to my high school days in the mid-1970s. I'd do my homework after school in the kitchen and mom was watching Mike Douglas in the living room. I was within earshot and listened to each show. Kinda reminds me of the raw egg fight on Johnny Carson with Dom Deluise. Man, those were some great times!!!
Mike Douglas was a wonderful guy and I miss his show very much. It was a true talk-variety show, with guests who came on not only to plug their latest projects but to actually have conversation and entertain.
Whatever one might think of the Stooges' material, their execution of it was virtually flawless. They developed a talent for comedic timing that has never been equalled imho, never mind surpassed. Nobody before or since could make their stunts look as easy, natural, and spontaneous as they could.
How can I describe The Three Stooges with words... I grew up with them, they´re part of my life and memories, they are a feeling. From Argentina, a true Stooges fan. Thank you very much for posting this.
I grow watching every stooge episode, during all my life (49 y.o) I change my most favorite stooge when I learn more and more about the art of comedy, since a few years Larry inspired a new point of view in me sense of humor. But after watch this video I understand this fact: Moe always was the soul of the three stooges. Thanks a millon for share and greetings from Argentina.
1:40 I started giggling like a child at this point. I can't pin point what my sense of humor is anymore but pie fights are one of the classics that still tickles my funny bone regardless. Especially when it's improvised
Sad to think all three of those guys are gone, but thanks to clips like this we can relve the nuttiness! Mo Howard looks like George Burns here, and it was surreal listening to Ted Knight do his Ted Baxter when he asks the Manaquin if she will be in town later! Great stuff, and I do miss these kinds of daytime talk shows. TV is not the same anymore.
It's just great hearing the anticipation of them starting to go at it with the pies. I also can't believe Moe was really that small. Their movies didn't lie.
Thanks for sharing the video clips with Moe from the "Mike Douglas Show." I've been picking up the complete DVD collections that are being released currently, and so I've been in a Stooges mood. -- Matt
Joe Besser was funny--I remember him playing the building superintendent on a season or two of "The Joey Bishop Show" (Bishop's sitcom, not his late-night talk show on ABC that competed against Carson's "Tonight Show"). I always loved the beginning of The Three Stooges' shorts with Besser: "Hello, hello, hell-o . . . Hell-o!," before the "Three Blind Mice" music.
There's just something about pie throwing that makes you laugh...after all these years. Not sure when this aired, but Moe was still a natural. A now long gone style of comedy, these guys never got the regognition they deserved. RIP

Oh Yes
Saw this on TV when it aired in 1973. I was home from school because I was sick. I was bored so I turned on the TV and there was Moe! Funny....
Nobody could throw a pie better than Moe Howard. :)
Perhaps tied with Buster Keaton.
You just know Moe was having a totally blast throwing those pies.
Moe's a real showman, good to see him strut his stuff
who WOULDNT LOL
It would have been something if Curly/Shemp and Larry were there as well. Man, would that have been something.
I'll watch this 1000x over until I learn Moe's skills. Moe is my pie-throwing Obi-Wan. My master. I must learn from him.
