Honestly, Amara, thank you so much for this video. I had my first baby last year, and I am about to end my maternity leave soon. Before I had my baby, I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling and all, but looking at how life has turned out and how expenses have skyrocketed, it seems like I won't be able to achieve that dream anytime soon without another income. I feel guilty about going back to work; it sometimes makes me feel like I'm not doing a good job, but I have to do what I have to do to help put food on the table for our family. It's the only thing I can do right now, as my husband is pulling his weight but is struggling a bit.
Though I do plan on having another child in the future, I will plan ahead and make sure everything is in place so that I can stay at home with the kids longer. This topic needs to be spoken about more; I see a lot of content about stay-at-home moms but not much about working moms. It makes me feel horrible about myself, like I'm putting work before my kids, but the reality is that most moms have to work because they don't have the luxury to stay at home, even if their partners are contributing. It reminds me of celebrities; most of them have to work and choose to, yet they still put their kids in school but are intentional about the time they spend with them after school.
In the end, it's about doing what's best for our families, whether that means working outside the home or staying at home. We all have unique circumstances and challenges to navigate, but what truly matters is the love and care we provide to our children, regardless of our employment status. Let's continue to support and uplift one another, recognizing the value and importance of all types of parenting journeys.
Thank you for sharing this!! Your honesty and vulnerability is so relatable and I can assure you that you’re not alone.
You know what’s best your family at this stage in your family’s life. Put that first and do what you need to do with your head held high. If that’s means staying home at a later stage, I pray that you get the opportunity for that eventually.
Just know that if you ever need support, you’re not alone. There are millions of moms going through this. Im committed to creating a safe space for moms to share, seek support and build community with people who get it!
Best of luck with your return to work ❤️❤️❤️
I remember before I had my son (my firstborn), I was like, “Well, yeah, I’ll send him to day care; I have to work to make money!”, just matter-of-fact like that. Over the course of two kids over 8 years apart (from two marriages), I used the following forms of child care:
1) Staying home with my kid myself because I couldn’t find a job.
2) Regular, center day care.
3) Subsidized day care.
4) Group day care home.
5) Free state preschool with newly-retired grandma providing before and after care and transportation.
6) Dad staying home with baby/working jobs that permitted being with baby.
7) Federally provided free preschool with Dad providing care before/putting child on bus and grandma picking child up/providing care after.
8) State provided free preschool with Dad dropping off before and Grandma picking up after.
9) Private Catholic pre-K with Dad getting child on and off the bus.
10) I forgot, private playgroup Dad provided transportation to and from.
I basically used every form of preschool child care known to man, because different things made sense at different times. Our society is definitely not structured to accommodate the reality that most mothers have to work to have enough money to properly care for their kids! 🫠
Yup!! Every stage will be different.. great that you were able to figure out what works at every stage
Love the video. You described being an outside of home working mom perfectly! Especially the unrealistic expectations we set on ourselves! I’m currently cleaning my house on a Saturday and I know I won’t be able to do it all but I set the expectation in my head that every Saturday I’m going to clean the home til it’s spotless. It never happens. I’m always disappointed in myself. And then I tell myself I’ll do better next time. Rinse, wash , repeat the same unrealistic expectation cycle the next week. Lord help! Lol
Girl!!! I can relate... were all a work in progress, but we'll figure it out 😀
🔥🔥🔥🔥way to go girl🎉. Good job
Thanks mom!! You're the best! ♥♥♥
