  • On a foggy day along the California coast, I go camp, forage for local food along the coast, and do some ocean fishing and catch the BIGGEST Barred Surf Perch I've ever seen with my eyes in my life - I bring it back to the campsite and cook it up for lunch.

Awesome video! That looked like a really cool area. I was so scared when the fishing line was on the rock 😂. What is the general area of the camping spot? What I do when I don’t have a measuring tape I take a picture of one of my hands by the fish, then later I measure in the screen and figure out how many of my hands can fit on the length of the fish. After that just measure your hand and multiply. Now I’m hungry gtg.

If you catch a barred perch then you should try casting your crab snare that way. Barred perch usually hangs out at sand bar. Sand Bar equals to Dungeness crab.

Here is a good formula for estimating the weight of a fish: L x G^(2)/800
That is....length times girth squared, divided by 800. I repeat, it is an estimating tool that works better on more rounded fish like tuna..etc. guessing your pan is 12" ? So judging by the amount of fish overlapping and considering its curved body I estimate the fish's length around 15.5" and the girth..well I can only guess is around 12". Therefore 15.5 x 12^(2)/800= 2.8 lbs
Great fish either way. Love your videos.
