The EVOLUTION of POKEMON on Youtube

  • Pokemon has been on UA-cam ever since the website's earliest days. As the platform has changed, so have the creators and their content. This is the complete history of Pokemon on UA-cam.
There are dozens of creators I could have mentioned in this video, but I just couldn't fit them in organically. This video is not a comprehensive list of the most influential creators in Pokemon's UA-cam history, but rather only some of the biggest names for their time.

Nice video dude! Loved the trip down memory lane.
If there's one thing I can add is that custom thumbnails weren't a thing at first because only YT partners got that feature, and a lot of gaming creators couldn't apply until 2012-ish when MCN's like TheGameStation and Machinima starter signing us on. MCN's in general might be an interesting topic for a future video.
Best of luck with the new Channel! ✌️

Oh man, I totally forgot they were partner-exclusive for a while! The gaming struggle with UA-cam in the early 2010's totally escaped my mind when scripting this. Thank you! MCNs and their reputations would make for a fascinating video for sure.
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks so much for watching!

Marriland, MunchingOrange, TheKingNappy, ShadyPenguinn, GameboyLuke, Patterzz, Smallant, Original151, UnitedGamer, I’d say some back in the day and some still to this day had a positive effect on my childhood. Kept me company during the hardest of times. Even tho school was tough on me, these people making content was something to cheer me up to motions beyond.

Other notable huge things for the Pokemon Series
Jaden Animations entering the Pokemon Scene for nuzlockes was MASSIVE for Pokemon, as it got a lot people back into Pokemon, you mentioned it briefly but I cannot underestimate how massive that was.
In addition, the VGC community has also shot up, with Wolfe Glick specifically making amazing videos about it

Hmmm kinda weird seeing a Pokemon on UA-cam history video without seeing Marriland (edit: and SuperSakrmory) anywhere.
I grew up watching Datai make solo runs as early as 2008 (I think). The first one I watched as a kid was a Starly solo run.
Also, kinda sad some people in the classic era didn't get mentioned here because gaming accounts got suspended in the early UA-cam days.

I do want to give an honorable mention to what I will call the Walkthrough era. Superskarmory, Lueroi, and Marriland all recording their DS screens with no capture card. Minimal editing. Iconic catchphrases. That was where I started my UA-cam Pokémon journey.

One part of the history I think was missing was the time near the end of gen 6 and in early gen 7, where all the biggest creators were doing battles against one another in draft league formats. It was easy for an audience to watch one video in a series without feeling like they needed to watch the rest, and it was a great way for a lot of communities to overlap. This era of pokemon youtube died down in early gen 8 after some creators who headed this movement became ostracized from the community, along with gen 8's battle timer. The death of online battles is what allowed for the rise in pokemon VGC content as well as opened the door to revisit older generations in challenge runs.

  • @WhyYouWahYoo
    @WhyYouWahYoo 2 місяці тому

This video was so strange to watch for me because it essentially described the evolution of the stuff I grew up (and still am) watching. I watched every single PurpleRodri and MuchingOrange playthrough, I was there when Randomizer Nuzlocke popped off, I watched every single ShadyLocke and Soul Link… I still watch TheJwittz’s old videos from time to time, and I was there when the Challenge format began. I’m an avid John Micheal Cup enjoyer, and I was in the Twitch chat when PChal won EK, I still watch draft league every week, and WolfeyVGC is the highlight of my Saturday.
What I’m getting at is, I’m kinda so engrossed in Pokemon and its content that I honestly forgot it was even a thing that would “evolve,” and thinking about it that way is kinda freaky. But cool. Great video!

I feel like a more accurate title would be "The Evolution of Pokemon Let's Plays on UA-cam" just because there's a huge lack of focus on tons of sectors of Pokemon UA-cam, specifically video essays, Top 10s, Theories, etc. I know you touch on this at the end but you say that they didn't have much of a "cultural impact" on the Pokemon community even though Top 10s and especially theories were really huge in the Sun and Moon era which you also say was somewhat dormant when in my view it wasn't (as one of the UA-camrs who kind of found their way during that era). I get it though, we all have different POVs from growing in different parts of the community! As someone who kind of grew up in the Pokemon community, I'll admit I did enjoy this video and loved going down memory lane! This isn't a "hate comment" or anything, just another point of view. Loved the video, great work!

@@muriloricarte4526A LOT of girls came out in January and admitted that he was harassing them. He kept trying to make them engage in erotic foot roleplay. This included Masae, who also revealed she hadn't spoken to him in years because of said harassment, and the videos of them together were uploaded without her consent.
But the most condemning thing that was revealed was one girl that he did this with was a 15 year old girl, which he was completely aware of (He was 19 at the time, but he straight up called her, "his pedocrush.")
He's expressed remorse about it, but he's required by doctors to stay off social media for the time being. So he's currently living with his girlfriend.

@@delphoxhoopa7289no he didn't call her her "pedocrush" and the whole document is a little sketchy imo.
The others were valid though but he's trying to better himself.

@delphoxhoopa7289 wow, what a roller-coaster of emotions this story was. I used to watch his channel, but stopped several years ago due to his attitude and other things that did not resonated with me at the time.
Hope he gets better and keep on with his life.
I'm also shocked to hear about Masae, at the time, they seemed to be very close.

The best part of this comments section is watching everyone take a nostalgia trip. There are names I haven't heard here for a loooong time, and checking up on some of them is actually quite refreshing!
Notably, you didn't cover the _dark_ sides of the Pokémon community, and I think that's ultimately for the better. We all know one or two names would've dominated that segment, and not for the right reasons 😅

that beginning era of pokemon on youtube was my favorite. 10 minute videos of people playing through the games. It wasn't as common to have all these games laying around so seeing what pokemon were in those games through other people's playthroughs was just awesome. Creators like nappy, shadypenguinn, haydunn. they all made me love with pokemon again
I'm not too fond of the current era of pokemon on youtube. Just hyper specific rules modifying the game to oblivion and losing track of what is the actual pokemon games.
Nice video! it was nice to think about this

As a fan of pokemon videos since the beginning I thought this was a great video.
I would address that you missed the era of competitive battle that dominated Pokemon UA-cam from gen 5-6 as their own era.
Then the current then we fight era that is the separation between the ‘normie’ UA-camrs like PointCrow/JaidenAnimations, the extreme Nuzlockers like Pokemon Challenges, and the 2nd generation PokeTubers like ShadyPenguinn or Patterz

I love the new video on your new channel. As some constructive criticism, maybe be slightly more specific with your title. For example, in this first video, you titled it "The Evolution of Pokémon on UA-cam". When I see this specific title, my expectations are that you'll be talking about ALL of Pokémon YT stuff. Like people who made content on the TCG like TheJWittz, or Theory/Educational videos like the ones made by MatPat and Lockstin. Or any other Pokémon stuff, like the anime or mangas. If you're only going to focus on the video games, that's great, I did really like this video, but maybe title it "The Evolution of Pokémon Games on UA-cam" to properly set expectations. Instead of just having a small blurb at the end.
