      Hello Eric
I have to say there some nice choice
From the boxes I like to see just what and how much you can have the small green box can you put
      Your emergency survival gear in
      This is an question ?
Do you think using the sling bag
With gear and one of the other boxes with dryed food and small water packages
On a emergency big out time ?
      My name is Gregory
And thanks for the video's you put out and peace ✌️
      Friend

OK as for color depending on what your doing. If it;s a get home type kit it doesn't matter but a average color I would say would be better but a vehicle kit a bright color would be better. OK as for gear. Fire I say storm matches, bic with a zip tie to keep the button from depressing in the kit, magnesium fire starter and a fero rod, these 4 items will fit in a shirt pocket. Cookware a old school boy scout mess kit you will have a frying pan, plate, cup and a pot with lid for boiling AND you can stash some of the fire lighting items in it. Shelter/cover most items will take up most if not all of the space in those 4 containers.

Still going through the video for the first time but thought I'd add one comment regarding that first small box: while it doesn't have any handle, I did see a couple of holes. One can make their own handle using paracord and whatever and attach it to those holes. Put carabiners on the end of your handle and the handle even becomes removable.

The sling bag is nice, but it's been done a million times. (Including by myself..lol)
I have also done the MTM Surviver dry box only in the smaller size. It works great if you are talking about survival for a day or two and not camping for a few days. It is also available in bright orange. You can attach a handle or shoulder strap on the two top lugs. Most of us have a few miscellaneous clip on shoulder straps laying around the house. My only complaint when I bought the case was the crappy, bubbled up sticker on the bottom that was advertised as a signal mirror. You can definitely get quite a bit of gear in the smaller one if you are selective and organize it while packing it. We all know you are an expert at that! And it will fit under just about any car seat.
With the larger container or bags it seems like people try to fit every expensive gadget they have ever seen on UA-cam (and never used) into their kit.
If it is a survival kit and not a bug out bag it doesn't need 100 items.
Choose the container for the scenario.
Looking forward to this series. You always do a great job and I look forward to your videos.

Have to agree. Lightweight, easily portable, can add to it by the mollie hangers and clip points. In a pinch, a trash bag can be used to cover it if needed to carry it in rain/snow/etc. When not used, it folds up into a very small form.

One problem in getting seen by helicopters or a small aircraft like a Cessna, by using a torch, is the beam of your torch.
A lot of really decent flashlights have a very tight beam, apparently, if it has a tight beam, folks will think it's more powerful.
One way around this, if you have a large day-glow waterproof box, is to set your torch to flash on-off-on, and put the torch into the emptied box. Now the whole box will flash.

I actually prefer the bag, it’s a lot more versatile with the size of things you can put in it and on it, if you’re worried about things getting wet it can be put in plastic bags to keep it waterproof, I mean the items inside. You could even use small Water resistant or waterproof containers inside the bag.

I use cases and containers for home emergency/survival kits. Bags/backpacks I use for bug out bags or get home bags. The Kong case would be perfect for my power outage kit. I would add reflective tape and glow in the dark tape to make it easy to find. With the sling bag, you can use waterproof pouches or waterproof containers to protect the stuff inside your sling bag. Use a small rain cover to also protect your bag.

  • @lordofgraphite

Super excited for this, I will say, I can only see a solid argument for the sling bag, I understand not wanting to do something as small as an altoids tin, but I just can't think of a scenario where its feasible to be lugging gear boxes around. Had you considered belt pouches, John lofty style? Either way, still super hyped to see where this goes :D

    • @themayorofportland4904
      @themayorofportland4904 2 роки тому +3

Yeah I think having at least a loose scenario in mind for these kits is important, the only scenario i could think of that would make sense for these containers would be to keep these on a small boat/canoe. Having a scenario in mind would also make selecting the contents of this kit a little easier.

    Great little exercise.
Make a stationary survival kits from the largest volume box and a field kit in the sling bag. It all kind of depends on the reason and circumstances of survival, at least to me. I have different kits or stashed for different reasons. Just my humble opinion.

    I say Kong Case.
    Bright color.
Water proof, will float if not overloaded.
Big enough, you don't need to choose between a sheath knife or a folding saw. Bring both and a collapsable bucket for water harvesting.
Add a strap to clip through the lock holes. Hard case messenger bag.
2nd choice Amazonbasics, same as above, just add a big stripe of neon or reflective tape/paint to it.

Great idea! I really like this concept. I know it wasn't an option but I really like using dry bags. They come in a bunch of different sizes, they have a sling and a handle. Plus they are great for grab and go. I always have one in the truck. Keep in mind I don't use it as an "only survival" it gets used regularly. Which means up keep is important and may not work for everyone. That's just about 2 cents worth of comment. Thanks!!

Bag, always. Serves both for bug out, or shelter in place for the 24/72hr event. Gives you choice to carry with you. The waterproof containers, well, even if you did get into the water(Flooding, or river crossing -You are not doing any amphibious ops guys, be honest-) they are boxes. How do you plan to swim with them? If completely stacked with gear, their weight will probably exceed their bouyancy, hence, you are carrying an achor on your hand. Put a dry bag in the sling bag, and prior getting into the water you can fill it with air and make a floating device, and keep your staff dry. It also doubles as a water container.

I suggest one of the larger aluminum containers about the size of the 'survivor dry box'. The ability to use the container itself as a means of boiling water or cooking food is extremely useful. It's also less expensive and lighter weight than a plastic case.
Nothing wrong with a larger survival kit, but if it's going to be big you might as well scale up to a small 30+ liter backpack complete with a tent, sleeping pad, jacket, change of socks etc.

I think the sling bag is best, but my second pick would be the dry box from Amazon. Which one to actually choose would be determined by how the kit was going to be used. I'd use the sling bag for a kit that was going to live in my car for emergencies out in the woods/on the road, and I'd use the dry box for a kit that was going to be in my house for natural disaster type situations.

My 2 cents: Either the orange box or the sling bag.
Box: Solid, so great for storage. Water resistant. Visible. Can hold water.
    Bag: Better portability. More flexible.
Note: If lost the big rule is TO STAY PUT. In that case the box is not an issue. The idea is to get found and rescued. If you are hiking and get lost, your survival gear should already be part of your regular hiking kit.

I like the Sport Utility Box. Primarily for the fact that it’s bright orange. USA made is always a bonus because then you have a good warranty, good customer service, and it’s guaranteed to function as advertised (unlike a lot of foreign made cases I’ve had that claimed to be 100% waterproof but got soaked inside from a mild rain storm). It also has plenty of room to build a very nice kit. Waterproofing isn’t a huge deal for me because I’m never out on boats or anything so the water resistance would be fine and if I decided to make it waterproof I’m sure I could find a way to do it.

I'm voting for the sling bag as well. I think it will hold more, is more adaptable, for storsge as well as if it was actually used. I think the back pocket is for a water bladder?

MTM survivor box. I've built kits as gifts using this box. Ideal for bouncing around in a truck or car.

Great project. Id go with the pack just because you might want to be on the move. Other option is throwing a sling in with the which ever box is picked. I see they have padlock holes and you might be able to use a split ring or zip tie to attach the sling to make it more portable although 550 cord could also be used i suppose. Cheers Stu

The sling bag does it for me I think it would be the most versatile

Excellent! In my opinion the bag would be about the best bet easier to put on your shoulder and go as opposed to trying that grab a case and one hand and other things in another hand but yeah the sling pack I think would be the best actually it appears like you could get more in the sling pack just my opinion. Have a great day and stay safe and keep your powder dry! PS you can waterproof or at least make the sling pack water resistant with a spray-on and if you really wanted to you could get an orange spray and I think they make those in the rubberized version to make it more visible. You know second thoughts

I wanna see how much stuff will fit in that kong case. I'll vote for that one. I also agree with you about wanting my case highly visible

A kit for 24-72 hours is a good idea needs to be large enough to hold everything but light enough to grab a carry easy. I like the bright orange one and a little bit of glow in the dark tape that you can get off of Amazon would work wonders to help you see it even in the light and help be seen at low light situations.
