Now I get it!! That's all I needed! All these 16 minute videos are pointless. Thanks brother. Been riding a semi-automatic but tomorrow I get my dream bike. Much love for the quickness
No one else describes this better. Every other biker on UA-cam never points at the actual jockey stick to show the foot motions in play. All they do is talk n talk about shifting gears W no visuals. Ur the best man
Great Video....1st gear is the hardest for any beginner, bc u have to time letting that clutch out, ......too quick and it will stall and u may flip over the friggn handlebars. I have 3 sons who have been riding semi auto dirt bikes since they were 5. Now my 11 and 8 yr old are using the Clutch. My 6 yr old just learning now...I didn't learn to shift til I was 30 yrs old
When i release the clutch and give gas at the same time my bike's engine stops i dont know it anymore its pissing me off in traffic ... What do i need to do? Release the clutch slowly and give more gas?
You answered your own question, but a smooth consistent release isn't always the way. Once it starts to catch a little bit, freeze your clutch hand at that position, known as the "friction point", while giving more gas and getting up to speed, then slowly let the clutch out the rest of the way. This is mainly an issue going from a stop into first gear. Once you get some momentum, the clutch is a bit more forgiving.
that was excellent; and he showed how to place the foot on a sportsbike; if you're a cruiser rider and get on a sportsbike, it's a TOTALLY different feeling; seating position; angle when you ride.
Think this is arguably one of the most need to know facts for beginners like my self. And being so intrigued by speed, surroundings. And a pretty bikes this part squeaks up on use all. Very well shown thanks very much.
This is the first really well explained instruction on what is shifting all about, especially when you are drawing a parallel between a car and a motorcycle gear shifting. Thx
although i know everything about riding a motorcycle but this video tutorial is great for those who clearly doesnt understand the meaning of smooth changing gears .
thank u very much, very informative on the subject.just started new job n gonna get a mi first motorcyle n been NEEDING to ride n ride safely, thanks from NEW MEXICO great vid-\m/
I know we push it down for first gear and pull up for second. But isn't neutral between 1 and second? So doesn't that mean after pressing down, I got to press up twice to reach 2nd gear? Like 1st then neutral then 2nd. And please tell me the same while downshifting? What way can I reach neutral? Please help me wid this question ty.
Dear Sir. I am 62 and have been riding for 2 weeks. Your foot wear appeared to be tie up shoes. I was told to wear boots over the ankles, which makes it harder for me to shift. Can I wear a finer shoe for shorter trips, this would allow a better feel for the little shifter peg. Thank you. Dave
If you have to make a sudden stop, you won't have time to downshift. You need to apply the rear brake and let up on it slowly as you slow down so as not to lock the rear wheel, and simultaneously squeezing (not clamping!) the front brake which you apply adding MORE force as you slow down. That will take practice. You also need to disengage the clutch soon after you start stopping or the motor will bog and the bike will stall. Never do hard braking unless the bike is upright and going in a straight line. Once stopped down shift immediately to first gear.
hey, i have a problem. especially when my bike stop at traffic light. i can't find neutral because it stuck at 1st gear. i can't pull it. i need to push down from 2nd gear to neutral before my bike stop or if not it will stuck and i need to pulling clutch lever until the light go green and my bike still running even in neautral why eh?and while riding my 200cc bike and i wanna shift to 2nd gear it's so hard and all the times im stuck in neautral in the middle of moving traffic helf plss
The sound of the engine RPMs will let you know if you are slipping the clutch too much or adding too much throttle too soon as you accelerate and release the clutch. The release of the clutch and adding power should happen simultaneously and smoothly.
Maybe not, but the engine braking effect, especially in first gear, could cause a skid and loss of control. It would depend on how high are the engine RPMs were before "letting go" of the throttle. I wouldn't recommend "letting go" of the throttle in any case!
lol I know this is a super old comment, but I’m watching Dexter literally right now as I’m scrolling through these comments and saw this. Made me laugh.
So you completely let the clutch out after upshifting BEFORE rolling back on the throttle? It seems this is a different story every video I watch and every person you talk to. One says roll throttle back on THEN let the clutch out, the next one says let the clutch out THEN roll back on the throttle.🤷
wow why can't other 10+, 20+ mins videos can't be like this, this video is a masterpiece with the information exactly needed, thanks!
"The shifter does not sit in a separate position for every gear."
--Priceless
hahaha. Exactly
As oppose to how shifting works in cars?
Short, sweet and exactly what I needed to know.

This taught me more than the 20 minute videos of idiots sitting on a bike trying to explain how to shift without even pointing the camera at the foot!
Same
Exactly!

Agreed. The first video I watched did not help me at all
Picking up my first bike Thursday and this was insanely helpful.
How did you get on?
Curious to know how things went?
"You can bypass neutral going from first to second and vice-versa" ..... Also Priceless
Clear, concise and extremely helpful, thank you!
Clear, concise and to the point. Great video.

That actually was a great video for beginners like myself because I definitely didn't know.

How do you know what gear you're in if the bike doesn’t have a digital indicator?

Well explained - thank you very much for this information.
Yeah, agree with the comments here. Clear, concise, helpful.
Ok so if I am in third gear and I want to stop can I hold the clutch and hit the rear brake or do I have to down shift?
The only video I need. Thanks
Do we have to use the throttle as well while using the clutch?that is what my instructor asked me to keep practicing
What happened if not use clutch while changing break..?
Great and simple to understand. But you didn't explain decelerating.
Dear Sir. I am 62 and have been riding for 2 weeks. Your foot wear appeared to be tie up shoes. I was told to wear boots over the ankles, which makes it harder for me to shift. Can I wear a finer shoe for shorter trips, this would allow a better feel for the little shifter peg. Thank you. Dave
You need to put a pressure to the gear leaver before you press the clutch to make smooth gear change. You forgot to mention that
Helpful beyond belief. I love you.
If you're in 6th gear and need to make a sudden stop, do you have to downshift 5 times THEN get into neutral?
If you have to make a sudden stop, you won't have time to downshift. You need to apply the rear brake and let up on it slowly as you slow down so as not to lock the rear wheel, and simultaneously squeezing (not clamping!) the front brake which you apply adding MORE force as you slow down. When do I shift? Is it just randomly? Or a certain time?
I also want to know the answer to this. Also is it bad to only ride in 1st gear?
Anyone know what riding shoes those are?
This man is a good explanator ..
Holy shayza this is just a small video but i learned all that i gotta learn here

Is it okay if i rode my new bike which i got last night 100 kmph from the now itself.
Im new to biking pls advice me
while upshifting is it better to open a throttle (after the gear change) a little bit while releasing the clutch or just after?
The sound of the engine RPMs will let you know if you are slipping the clutch too much or adding too much throttle too soon as you accelerate and release the clutch. The release of the clutch and adding power should happen simultaneously and smoothly.
loud and clear sir thank you
is it recommended to rev match?
Will the bike stall if i let go of the throttle before using the clutch on the move?
Maybe not, but the engine braking effect, especially in first gear, could cause a skid and loss of control. It would depend on how high are the engine RPMs were before "letting go" of the throttle. I wouldn't recommend "letting go" of the throttle in any case!
Can you shift from 5th to neutral without downshifting through all the gears?
No you cannot
So informative vid.😇
