I love seeing critters like this. They're so beautiful. We only have two moths of notable size where I live (South Central Louisiana) - Luna Moths and Sphinx Moths. It's an absolute treat when we get to see them 😍
Louisiana has a lot more than just that. You should have a fair number of big saturniids around other than luna moths, including the royal walnut moth in the video, try searching around old growth forests, or just any old walnut trees for this specific moth. Actually, you are in one of the southernmost states, in a particularly tropical part of it, so you should have a lot of large lepidopterans (and other insects). I've noticed that it's common for Americans to see strange, big, and amazing insects online and think they are something wildly exotic when they actually have a decent chance of seeing them in their backyard, and a much higher chance of finding them if they looked for them, but unfortunately they aren't even aware of how close they really are. This moth is found throughout the eastern part of the continent.
@@chitinskin9860 I'm talking about my specific region of my state. I'm well aware of what lives here. 😁 But of the 8 identified "common" saturniidae that populate Louisiana, only three of them have significant populations where I live. And the cocoons look like little droppings and that just makes me laugh.
Google Cecropia moth 😳😳🤯🤯
I had picked some flowers n I put them in a vase on the kitchen table.
And I seen a green cattapillar rating on some succulents I picked off a bush. I now call it the butterfly bush, because when I went to get more, the bush was filled with empty pupas.
1-2 weeks I would go n get more succulents n a few flowers for Willow. I named him Willow♥️. He ate day n night. I would go to sleep n he was eating. N in the morning eating. N it is as September n we had a great summer n fall starting out. Rain n rainbows 🌈. 1 evening he was preparing the cacoon. I kept him in the same vase on the window seal with the window open 3 inches. Then one morning he came out n was the HUGEST MONARCH BUTTERFLY I ever have SEEN! Oh Willow♥️.
He knew me n would ride on my shirt where my heart was😁. 1 day I had to let him go. I cried like a baby😢.
Pura poesia.
I love seeing critters like this. They're so beautiful. We only have two moths of notable size where I live (South Central Louisiana) - Luna Moths and Sphinx Moths. It's an absolute treat when we get to see them 😍
Luna Moths will always be my favourite. Such beautiful creatures
I saw a sphinx moth on a hike once! I thought it was a yellowish leaf for a second.
Now we have a crap-ton of other sizable moths in the general region, but the Luna moths are the ones that really stand out. Mostly we're just dragonflies and lubbers (grasshoppers the size of small animals) 😱 🤣
@@DaellusKnights Oh, I just read your comment wrong, sorry. Well i can't be bothered to edit my previous comment so just ignore any of the parts that you already know or don't find helpful.
I absolutely adore both moths and butterflies! Such amazing critters ❤️
I'm gonna put one of those in your bed at night
i shad aggressively reading your horrible comment
those are gorgeous! where did you get yours? i have polyphemus moths that i reared from larvae that i just found outside
my contact for Regal moth eggs is Bill Oehlke in Canada. His email is oehlkew@islandtelecom.com if you are interested!
@@entomology_1 thank you! hopefully they deliver somewhat far. if not, i hear shady oaks butterfly farm has other moths even if theyre a bit more expensive. i definitely hope to see more of these precious babies!
@@nova.chrome Yes I have used Shady Oak as well, but they have never had Regal larvae. Bill uses other breeders and ships pretty far- at any rate, Good luck!
@@entomology_1 thank you!
This was in my garage in GA last night. I've lived here 45 years and this was the first of this type I've ever seen. I actually quickly grabbed and released to the outside. Beautiful moth!
Suuuuure you did.

The months are so fluffy and cute ☺️ like mini owls lol
Whenever i see a moth that looks super pritty in my head my child self just yells "MOTH!!!" cuz it was the first of the few bugs i learned about lol
My family knows a guy who used to breed Luna Moths. He gave us a dozen eggs, and we were able to get the majority to adulthood! So cool!
I hate to give you this fact
Luna moths don't have mouths
@@MaizeCornGod It’s a bit sad honestly.
I just moved to the town next to me a month ago was was delighted to find that there were a bunch of fluffy moths in my area! I don’t know why there weren’t any in my old town, but the ones I see at my new house are really big and fluffy 🥰
@0:25 The way the arms are crossed like she's really posing for the picture omgg
They are so gorgeous oml
When you can see them like this it almost feels unreal to me
I think I'm starting to love moths, there are so many cool ones
I saw one that I thought was a hummingbird a while back, its wings were buzzing so fast
Humming bird hawk moth! (Or if it was grey, it could be a five-spotted hawk moth)
@@alligator_with_internet_access Definitely that first one, it had me fooled until it landed on a flowerpot
Nice :D
maybe a clear wing?
First time I saw one of those really threw me off. Had no idea something like that existed. Same with the bumblebee moths.
I never thought moths could be so adorable until now
I had bad time with the house brown ones, eat my clothes and carpets.
It's unreal how something so beautiful and stunning can turn out from a simple all black coccon! ❤️🖤💜
What comes first? The moth ? Who laid the eggs?
Beautiful moth although I'd bet it would taste awful. Don't eat moths kids. Anything that can't make up its mind up concerning it's physical shape tastes bad.
The dark cocoon is all style, darling, look at those gorgeous colors emerging from the unassuming changing booth
*Yup*
She is absolutely stunning.
Beautiful moths, and they're really impressive in caterpillar form as well.
Wow, she looks like a cartoon! Almost like she has little highlights in her eyes. Adorable!
Never judge the caterpillar by its appearances, They might transform into something gorgeous.
The caterpillar is also gorgeous
@@alligator_with_internet_access I know
@@alligator_with_internet_access eh
But don't always touch the caterpillar some are very painful and some even lethal
Ik! But thanks :D
"Managed to open her wings inside a bucket" This was the best damn KFC commercial I've ever seen!
These moths and caterpillars are literally something from an alternate fantasy land. Fluffy, adorable little winged puppies
That's an absolutely gorgeous moth. I love huge insect because of how alien and unique they look. I mean, small insects also look that way just as much, but before I got a phone with macro camera it was really hard to see. That giant caterpillar is for me an absolutely amazing sight, not as cute, but probably even cooler than the moth it becomes.
Beautiful creatures 😮 The metamorphosis is truly a fascinating event 😊
That has to be one of the most beautiful things I've seen this year! Utterly stunning! 🥰
I love moths, such gorgeous creatures they are 💕
It really looks like a stuffed animal.
It's adorable in all stages, spiny or not
She is absolutely magnificent! So beautiful 🧡

Moths and butterflies are my passion and I love the colors of these moths. I can’t wait to add a specimen to my collection.
I LOVE moths!! They give me so much happiness at how beautiful and adorable they are and this is a true beauty!!
She's so beautiful!! And she's crossing her legs❤
That’s definitely the coolest looking moth I’ve ever seen! I love the colors!
Smash
Don't know why but I've always loved moths. I had a gorgeous moth for a while I was taking care of that had the most beautiful colors. Definitely not as big as this moth but still pretty big. It had these shapes on it that looked like eyes on its wings. So cool!!
Cute fluffy moth 😍🥰
First time i didn't get grossed out by insects. It looks majestic even
When I was younger.. butterfly’s were coool & moths were icky 😅 lol then later on I started to realize just how darn cool moths are! So beautiful & diverse 😊

She’s such a cutie. Her colors are so vibrant too; such a lovely looking girl ❤
Everyone else: How adorable!
Me: Panicked screaming
Wow, now that's a gorgeous moth. I'm surprised that an insect can be so fluffy and adorable.
These are absolutely amazing, the larvae and the moths are so beautiful, really love the colours. I can't promise if one flew at me I wouldn't scream though, I'd definitely scream 🤣
Can agree, as a kid had a panic attack when one landed on my face.. it stared at my soul.
@@zuziiice8907 I get freaked out even they fly right into me, they're weighty for insects, I got one in my hair and it was huge, I was freaking out but I held it together so I could remove it without hurting the moth

Aw, she's pretty
From the few websites I have read, some Hickory Devil Horned Caterpillars grow into Regal Moths as early as in May! The pupa may have hatched early if it was hot where you live, or if you used any tech to help you.
It's sad these beautiful monarchs do not last long, as they die right after copulating and laying their eggs. But I guess beautiful things do not last very long.
Oh my gosh! They’re gorgeous! I’m not a bug person by any stretch of the imagination but these are truly awesome

Super Interesting character development indeed 🤔
That’s Mothra in real life!
What a beautiful moth what an extraordinary creature.
Ooooooh they are so beautiful!!! I love all insects and whenever I can bring in a moth or butterfly larva or pupa I do it…IF they’re in a vulnerable place.
I’ve found monarch chrysalises on the ground, brought them home, tied them up with floss and they’ve eclosed and been released successfully more times than I can count!
I’d LOVE to have some of these caterpillars, watching them pupate and emerge would be fascinating since they’re so large! Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
It looks like a plushie! So beautiful
An absolutely beautiful moth!!!
