  • I'm trying to get back on this posting to youtube thing so bare with me. :)
In this video I show you a little bit of what I've been working on with the trails along the property and the plans for the spring if all goes well as things develop. I chat a bit about what's been going on at the cabin in the woods and some of the issues that have popped up now that the muddy season is here - including a little story time of how I got our new tractor stuck in the mud!! Yup. Embarrassing but funny now that it's out and I've learned my lesson.

    Hard work on those trails!
    Use loppers for bigger stuff.
Use loppers on branches before cart loading.
I've switched to a Bahco 30" bow saw, better leverage. Easier.
Find "Woodman's Pal" a straight 20" machete for trail blazing
Use traditional scythe with 24-36" blade for big brush. Fun!
Use "grass whip" for grassy areas, weeds, swung like golf club!
Wear cheap plastic goggles to avoid eye pokes(!), and work cap underneath conifers.
"Bog bridge" for raised footwork across bog, and look up "corduroy bridge" for ATV passage.
Love trilliums, had them naturally in woods in western Pennsylvania. I mail ordered them for here in south Jersey on my woodland property.
The "Ray sled!" Cut off biggest widest branch first, place on ground concave up. Pile on next smaller and smaller branches same way on top. All trunks to the front. This configuration forms a sled to drag with low resistance.
To easily haul away, out of sight, etc., just grab bottom biggest trunk(s) and drag away!
If HUGE sled, place (straight) branches straight into pile to stabilize it for dragging.
Buy (hand crank) cable winch puller.
    😀
Oh! One more Ray tip. I use a standard plastic foot tub with an inch or two of water, step in it, both boots, to wash off muck, herbicide, etc.
