I think the issue with the modern villain is social media. Unless you have iconic one liners, an easily identifiable bad boy/girl persona… everyone is gonna just try to UPDO you. And that’s a big issue with today in general. EVERYONE CAN BE A STAR. That’s why we’ll never have another Tanisha, Megan, Natalie , Tiffany “NY” or Johnny Bananas. The last villain we got is Chrisean. And it’s because she’s the first mentally challenged villain. So.
Also that goes with Casting as well, Zeus for example casts 15+ wild girls which doesn’t give the villains a chance to shine or for people to just play their role everybody gotta be wild 24/7 and try to make a moment like relax
I think the reason people no longer like villains is bc they don’t get their “just do” anymore. Shows need villains to be interesting, but if we’re only watching villains and nothing being done about them it’s no longer enjoyable. For example season 9 BGC it was enjoyable seeing the villains get their just do at the end of the season and the reunion. With New York, she was a villain, but Flav never picked her, so for the people she wronged it felt good, lol. These days we just have a bunch of people showing out for the cameras. & that’s another thing, when we can tell it’s not genuine and that the person is just showing out, that’s also rubs people the wrong way. They need to balance it out more.

I think the problem really came into play when social media really started blowing up and the “villains” were getting death threats and harassed for simply doing what they believe benefit them in the end, you don’t remember most of the girls from flavor of love you remember New York, you don’t remember too many bag girls but you think of Natalie Nunn first, you don’t remember too many people from the Challenge but Johnny Bananas is the one you think of. It’s comes with its own arch fs but when people are so comfortable being faceless and nameless behind key board it’s so easy to just get away with harassing someone now that no one wants to play that role because people take it a step further every time.
I'll start by saying, production doesn't know how to balance out the image of the villian if they are important to the storyline. Villians back in the day weren't just hateful or evil just cause, they had something enduring or enjoyable about them (like charisma with a cult leader or New York for example and dont forget the major steps back tv editting has taken back). I used to watch RHOP and Giselle bryant is an example of a HORRIBLE Villain because of the bias and favortism they show. We get to see nothing about her life, family or even talk about her and its okay but she is ALWAYS attacking other peoples marriages and familes (even going too far in the last couple of years and ruining the show imo). Even Kenya had to step back and befriend the housewives whwn she realized they would ice her out. Or Mike and his sunday dinners or how none of the people in the house were innocent. We ahad white/grey/black chracters since there is a revolving cast. Again, a villian in reality tv SHOULD BE "someone you love to hate".....NOT just "someone you just hate"

She literally swallowed her pride to get backlash and hate from not only the fans, but the cast of Rock of Love and SAVED Rock of Love from going down the drain and because of her S1 of Rock of Love broke ratings. They chose the theme based of physical AND mental and she has both how was she not deserving.
