Wow that that design is smart! At 9:11 you can see the pulley turn clockwise to drop powder and then turn counterclockwise just a bit to ensure powder at the edge of the large tube does not drop! Awesome programming!!
Love the channel, and the Autotrickler content is fantastic, but using a plywood background in 2021 is just flaunting wealth. 😄

Good video John, I like how simple it is to empty vs the V3 I have. With the fragile plug connectors that came on the V3 and having to unplug from the trickler to empty it, then empty the hopper, it is a little bit of a pain. I'm also on the V4 list, but I'm not expecting it till next year..

Just ordered today! Bought an FX 120i last week thinking I could put up with dispensing via chargemaster lite and then trickle the rest onto the FX 120i with a wonky trickler lol! That lasted a week before I went online and ordered the V4. 5 months to wait for it now.

Nice video. Glad I watched. It cements my opinion the v3 is an amazing piece of equipment and upgrades aren’t always better
Very true. It helps improve ladder testing and large kernel powder issues that the v3 sometimes has, but if you’re happy with the v3 keep running it, nothing wrong with it at all like you said.
Can’t wait for mine to show up next month. Someone is gonna get a hell of a deal on a tricked out v2 setup with Bluetooth!
Looking forward to a more detailed review. I noticed it fluctuated quite a bit. Looks like you had it set to 52.70 and saw it stop on 52.68, 52.72, 52.74. Will it normally stop on 57.20 every time or is that variation normal?
I underhand the concern but please keep in mind I'm doing a lot of testing of various program options so my numbers have been, and will be more varied that the final product. It will be just as accurate as the V3 but will do so in a more optimized way. As the programming gets finalized I'll be making more videos showing it in action to help.
I'm looking to significantly upgrade the speed and accuracy of my powder throws and have already been looking at the FX/FZ120i balance, but recently found the auto trickler! Very, very nice machine, but the part that blows me away besides it's performance is the price! Amazingly low price. I was expecting it be $1,000! $490 for the v4 is incredible for what it does and how well it does it. Even the older v3 is only $270, so nearly half the price and you still get a fantastic device.
I have two V4's on order and dealing with Adam is Painful, I believe I am going to ditch the V4's and go with an Ingenuity precision set up with a manual bulk dumper.
I will keep my V3. You mention V4 is not really faster or more accurate so I don't see the advantage for upgrade. New owners can buy with confidence. The V3 or V4 is a great product.
Thank you and yes I think either unit will work great depending on your needs. The biggest advantage that most people will take advantage of is the ability to run ladder tests or switch powders without ever having to adjust the cars powder drop amount. You can literally switch from 10gr to 100gr and never have to adjust it, it does all the work automatically.
For me the main advantage will be that the V4 takes up less bench space.
I load on a small bench and while the size of the V3's trickler doesn't seem like much I do have to leave a sizable area around it so i can remove it to empty or change powder.

In all fairness I'm currently using the SuperTrickler but I also still have my AutoTrickler V3 w/ Ingenuity Precision trickler. A friend of mine ended up with my V4 because it fit hit needs and he needed one. The V4 is still a very capable unit and a great choice for people who just want a simple plug and play system. The SuperTrickler is more of a complete system (as they add accessories in the future) and has a lot more ability to tinker with it. Search out my recent videos comparing the V3, V4 and SuperTrickler and it should help.
This is great - much appreciated. Two questions - the spout doesnt screw through the top correct, or did you set yours differently? That goes a long way to making cleaning easier - your method is perfect for my set up against a wall. How further forward is the the cup vs v3. Thinking that I dont have to change my Area419 platen and can just put something down as a reference point. Good to know that my cups will still work.
No, the spout doesn’t screw through anymore. Your unit will be just like you saw mine and it just lifts off. As far as the cup you saw how I got it almost back to center so you’ll just have to see how it lines up for you but I’m sure it’ll be fine.
To make it easier to empty- Instead of tipping it back and sliding the rear window up a second time, could you just tell it to throw a charge or two?
I run my 284 shehane with 52,7gn of n160 as well with 180 grain bergers 😊

Couldn’t you just run it set to 300gr (some value larger than the remaining powder) to empty it?
Possibly but I'm not sure it would clear out all the powder in the back. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

@@SigmaBallistics it’s really not a big deal and takes two seconds to empty. I talked to Adam and it would take way longer to use the tubes to empty and especially with the small tube there may still be a few kernels lingering so doing it how he instructs really is the fastest and easiest.
@@FClassJohn i have always just closed the hopper, then cycled the throw using the app about 4 times to clear it.
@@kgchrome Yeah me too but every once in a while it catches you not thinking and powder goes a flyin'. While not a huge deal it is nice that he designed the new one so it can't happen.
How well does the Autotrickler work for smaller load sizes, like for reloading pistol calibers, under 10 grains?
I’ve never used it for pistol, but I do know that it drops small loads just as well as it drops big loads. His new software really works great.
What measuring cup/pan are you using in the video? It looks much more convenient than the small aluminum ones I have been using
It’s just a custom one a buddy made me. Area 419 makes a very similar one you can purchase.

Where do you get the cup that the powder drops into? Or is that included with the V4?
When I turn on my scale(same as yours) it reads in grams. I have to manually change to grains. How do you program it to show grains when it turns on? Thanks, great video.

LOL did he steal the powder hopper on and off idea from LEE or the other way around? Lee powder drop comes off the same way with twist in turn
AutoTrickler V2 used the Lee hopper - we bought them directly from Lee. With V3 we designed our own 3D printed version to save cost and make the hopper bigger. V4 has better tensioning with a single center screw instead of 3 as well as the flat bottom so you can set it down, and the housing lock, and window stop. That’s innovation - iterating to make something better. All cars have 4 wheels, they are not all the same.
John, how does it work with ball powders. My v2 is too messy with ball powders. I end up with powder everywhere and the Lee Powder Drop tends to jam
I don’t use ball but I’ve watched Adam do it and it’s wonderful from what I’ve seen.
I was watching closely and at 9:36 the scale was at 0.14gr as you put it back and the powder started dropping anyway. Is that suppose to happen? I though it has to be zero to start dropping and would that be off than by 0.14gr?
Yeah someone else pointed that out and I'm pretty sure I inadvertently had spilled powder on the pan or in the cup for some reason. If the scale reads ABOVE 10 grains it assumes you're trickling up so it starts adding. If it was UNDER 10 then it stops you from gong further. I've dropped in excess of 1000 loads on the v4 since then and haven't had that problem again. I'm guessing it was just my mistake as I was filming and must've missed something.

How well does the V4 work with ball powder as well as granular powders? I had V2 and with ball powders it leaked every time the throw lever went down.
I don’t use ball or flake powders and only barely tested some friends CFE. It metered good and nothing really stuck except a few balls between the funnel and clear tube. I wish I could help more on this. Sorry.

With all the advanced technology I can see no sense in accepting any error to be faster with end result in substandard ammo or atleast ammo inferior to what you normally produce.
It's still a cool machine.
Qustion..Did you build the side wall wing for better picture quality? Or a gusset f I r strength? Or to negate wind from the side?

Thank you Trey and I totally agree. There will not be any problems with the accuracy for the production models. Please keep in mind that I am playing around with a wide variety of settings to test it out so you will see some fluctuations in my videos that won’t be there once the units ship.
As for the wing it is there for structural stability and to curb a little bit of wind since my garage door is right there and it doesn’t hurt for videos. So you are correct on all three counts.👍🏻

I just received the V4, I have problems with the big Tube over throw, I don’t know how to fix that problem
I would check with Adam but my best experience would say you need to work on adjusting the tilt up a little and then once you change it, re-calibrate it.
Will this work for fine powder like fine sugar powder or wheat flour. I want to use this for different purpose.

Please help me, I can’t connet the Autotrickler V4 with the app…i connet but when I do the calibrate the Autotrickler don’t move.
You may have a power issue that requires the use of the tiny jumper cable that's in the box. Follow the instructions and see if that fixes your problem. I had the same thing happen and the jumper fixed it.

Serious question- how tall is the V4 compared to the V3? From the top of the clear mounting plate to the top of the powder hopper, the V3 is 10 3/4” (27.3 cm).
I ask because my reloading bench has overhead cabinets, and the V3 barely clears it now when sitting on the anti-static heavy mass plate. Thank you to anyone that can answer this.
16.5” to the top of the hopper lid when on.
@@FClassJohn Thank you! So to be clear, the V4 is about 1 1/2” (36cm) shorter than the V3? My V3 is just about 18” from the bottom of the scale feet to the top of the hopper lid.
I’m on the late November delivery list for the V4. I would be stoked if it fits without having to modify my work area.
@@mrbreakit6063 I don't have my v3 to measure anymore but the 16.5" I measure is from the piece of granite it's on up to the top of the lid on the hopper.

No the 419 lid will not work on the new system because of how it works. And the truth is you may not want to upgrade and that’s OK. The new system really lends itself to people that do a lot of low development or a lot of different calibers but at the end of the day it isn’t any faster or more accurate so you just need to make sure it’s worth it for you.

I have no idea. I’m not affiliated with the company in anyway. I would email Adam and ask but they also have a chart on their website that had expected delivery dates based on when you placed your order. I know people have been receiving them based on things I see on forums.

What happened at 9:37? The scale has 0.14 grains on it when you inserted the empty powder cup. Why the autotrickler starts to dump powder if the scale is not exactly at 0 grains? 🤔
I was thinking the same thing. If he goes to a match with those tree last charges, he could probably make a différence in height.
That’s why i always weight on an second scale after.
I don’t know why the scale was off, maybe some powder fell on the pan. The trickler won’t start if the weight is between 0.04 to 0.10, but above 0.10 it will run because that’s like placing a partial charge and letting the trickler finish, which is the way some people use it.
It’s an interesting feature for small pistol load as well. But since i had some problems one time (with another brand of scale, the one used on video seems pretty reliable) i systematicly weight my charge on a second scale.
@@cthomes57 Yeah the problem definitely wasn't the scale, the scale wouldn't possibly drift so much in 10 seconds. There must have been something in the cup or on the pan. The scale is excellent, the price is right, and that's why it's the only one the AutoTrickler supports now, everything is designed around it.
@@AutoTrickler This makes sense. However, would it also make sense to have this configurable as to me it sounds like a great safety measure for the AutoTrickler to drop powder if and only if the scale hits 0.00 for those users that don't do partial charges?
