      There actually were dogs on the Titanic many of the passengers extremely wealthy and one of the perks was that was being able to prong your dogs along for the voyage.

    I think the reason we remember the Titanic, is because of how sure we were that it wouldn’t sink. It was a wake up call that no matter how well built something is, tragedy can still occur. That’s why I think we remember the Titanic the way we do.

    For anyone interested, the youtuber minimme (spelled something like that) has a video talking about a mod of one of the first few Mafia games where someone modded in a full-scale recreation of the Titanic. It's actually super impressive because every minor detail is supposedly accurate, down to the exact layout of the rooms.

    I actually played Titanic: Adventure Out of Time a couple of times. It is _hard as balls._ It's one of those games where you can forget to do this tiny little thing early on and it can completely screw you over at the end. And you can't really pause and look up a walkthrough because it goes through the Titanic's last night in _real time_ and almost all the events will only happen within a certain time frame.

    Jack and Rose might have been fictional people, but make no mistake, James Cameron went to pretty exotic lengths to be historically accurate with other real passengers and crew, and the ship itself.
    I had a professor for a lighting class who worked on the set for the scale-ship, and to disguise some equipment, one of them fashioned this box to look vaguely appropriate to the setting.
    Cameron happened upon it and demanded what the box was, and after it was explained to him... he grabbed the box and tossed it over the side, smashing loudly on the soundstage floor three stories down. In explanation, he said "If it wasn't on the REAL ship, it's not gonna be on MY ship," before walking off.
    ...Cameron's a dick, yes, but he's a dick with standards.
    And let's not forget what a perfect effects showcase Titanic was, still holding up well today. It was the ideal period for practical effects to be enhanced by CGI of the time.
    And you might scoff at the notion of a tragedy being made into such a big story, but watch Plinkett's Titanic review sometime. It was really a perfect time capsule of the time period for class differences, it had inherent drama, the hubris of man, romance, sacrifice... You really couldn't have written something that more naturally lent itself to a grand ensemble story, yet what happened in real life didn't require much, if any embellishment.
    There's plenty to lampoon about the movie, but hey... Did YOU shoot something that blew out the box office records for well over a decade?

    • @EveRosell
      @EveRosell 2 роки тому +11

      Anger issues is not a thing to be praised upon.
      Also, the argument "did YOU do the same?" immediately makes your other arguments sound cheap and non-convincing.
      This one is valid only when similar fields of expertise are compared.
      Not the case here.
      As the saying goes - no need to be a chef to know if dish you ate was tasty or not.

    • @JJMDude
      @JJMDude 2 роки тому +4

      @@EveRosell "AnGEr iSSuEs..."
      Dude, grow up. It's not about "anger," the man is just a control freak who absolutely WOULD NOT COMPROMISE on accuracy when it came to details. He's a director, and sometimes you need a guy to be that much of a stickler in order to get things done right. I wasn't even praising him for being that much of an ass, but in terms of filmmaking it's really hard to argue the guy doesn't know how to get results.
      As to the "chef" line... No. Personal taste unbacked by knowledge or appreciation of the craft is shallow and arbitrary, and ultimately worth very little. If you can't articulate WHY something was well or poorly made... then it's fine if you personally do or don't like it, but don't go shooting your mouth off.
      My family and I have long suffered this with my wife, who gravitates towards darker content and largely can't stand several films that are considered true classics. She eschews Disney films because she grew up reading the far grittier French and German originals.
      And this wouldn't be a problem if she could place her contrarian dislike against some sort of standard of argument, but if you press her she's far more likely to give shallow reasons than a compelling perspective on why a moral, theme or plot in a movie isn't nearly as clever as the wider world thinks.
      It would be one thing if she merely said, "these are probably well made movies, but they just don't work for me," but whether in jest or not she refuses to concede that and merely asserts that the greater opinion of critics and audiences is wrong.
      "Gut feel" and "I know it when I see it" non-standards are why terribly written content is allowed to skate by nowadays while Hollywood laughs its way to the bank, because people don't demand better, because they don't recognize quality, or lack thereof.
      Stories are told and films are shot in ways to he optimally evocative. Art can be subjective, but GOOD art requires someone who knows why it works. There are objective properties to effective art, and before you can break the rules in a mind-blowing way, you need to know what the rules ARE first.

And not to defend the guy for anything but he still came out with a pretty good movie(that's the objective opinion anyway, such movies had always been a chore to watch for me.) If it works and gets the point across, who am I to judge the method? Hell, guy coulda taken it a step further and toss the guy down the three story drop for even suggesting such a blasphemous idea as placing a vaguely in-place prop.

      What? No, none of that is true. She was never advertised as unsinkable. That was media sensationalism. She was built to be as unsinkable as possible, as most ships are. There were no costs cut during her construction. She was the height of engineering in 1912. Bruce Ismay did not bribe anyone for a place in a lifeboat. His life was ruined due to yellow journalism and character assassination by the media who painted him a coward, in various forms, despite how he desperately tried to get people off the ship in time and was in a panicked state during the sinking.
