This game is really meant for Chinese or Westerners who have more than a passing knowledge of Sunwukong or Journey to west. I'd recommended watching the 1980's Journey to the west which is subbed on UA-cam.
Lol the story progresses exactly like journey to the west, the group travels from places to places and rarely meet anyone twice. In that aspect I give developer respect on how they managed to mirror the original story
Good ol 90s and 2000s eh. I have enjoyed so many games that were rated like crap by so called experts. Who cares what anyone thinks right, best way is to try the game out. If you are having fun. That's all that matters. I think the internet ruined gamers in that way.
What’s funny is, if y ou read the negative comments which have constructive criticism, they are saying things noisy pixel said.. It is ike a boss boss fight.. a map would really help, etc.. the bugs.. It’s important to be honest what type of game someone is about to drop $100+ on. Not everyone is good with souls like or even boss fight games.. some like story driven not much combat .. some like puzzles.. etc..
Journey to the west is a story about a group of monks traveling to the Buddhist heaven(“West Heaven”) to seek for the ultimate Buddhist bible from the Buddha. Some of the monks were god in Taoist Heaven(Yes there are two heavens in the story) and was punished to descend as a monk to help the two heavens to complete the mission. Fun thing is that the story mixed the Chinese tradition Taoist universe and the Buddhist universe. Wukong was born as a powerful magical creature and educated by a Taoist god. He was then recruited as a “God of horse man”, of course he don’t know what does it mean at the beginning. After he realized his title means “horseman “ he was so angry that he rebel and fight the whole heaven. He was so powerful that the Taoist heaven have seek the help from West heaven to suppress him. So at the end he was punished and lock for 500 years until the two heavens send his monk master to release him and decide to let him guard the mission to compensate his crime. At the end he became a god of fighting in Buddhist heaven. So you can imagine, Taoist god, creatures in Chinese tradition myth, gods and creatures from Buddhist myth. They are all active and interacting in the story. It makes the story so fascinating. In the black myth Wukong it seems like the journey has already been finished. Wukong suppose to be a Buddhist god now. And seems like players are playing another monkey to revisit the enemies in the journey. Some big thing must have happened after the journey because all things are blacken a lot. I wonder what disasters has occurred to turn them like this.
Seems like game is geared more toward the domestic Chinese market of the developer, rather than the Western market, because the general plot and characters in Journey to the West is widely known in China. I guess they just assume the audience has the general knowledge and goes on from there. US gamers are probably not the core audience for this game.

I just wanna fight some sick foes after work bro, looks right up my alley, none of that tiring open world stuff (which is also great, but i simply lost the patience and time for those after college).
Based on what I have seen over the many reviews which give me pause on buying, 1. The world is beautiful, but there's not much on story, and if there is a story, what's there makes no sense. 2.The game us linear with copy pasted fodder before boss fights. 3. Equipment and upgrades seem basic not indepth, you have the same weapon and just upgrade it and gear doesn't lend itself to many builds. 3. Game seems to be what the trailers showcases which are the bosses, which all seem to be a tech marvel in gaming, and they do look cool, but game seems to be a boss rush. 4. No parry system or counter or Block, just dodge. All in all I'm on the fence with it.
There's a lot of talking and walking in linear level design, tho. There's no aerial combat snd traversal seems to have been a afterthought. The lack of a map, while still having quick travel, just sounds stupid. There's also the running theme of mediocre level design. Sounds like a good first game, but doesn't at all live up to the hype people had for it. I'm guessing some of the QoL stuff can be fixed in patches tho.
not really, the situation is they put storytelling before gameplay. lots of game performance and multiple ending. but story is not easy to understand, you need to know some background to enjoy the story better.
Ya know with a source material and the many takes people have done with it you would think doing a simple story would be easy. Though its not a deal breaker for me as iv played games with ether a confusing or even barley a story and still had fun. So the same should be here as everything else looks fun. Also its great to hear that multiple phase fights leave off at whatever phase you were in.
FYI, just wanted to let you guys know.. your comment about the map Well.. it seems that you were correct, reading chinese and English negatives, and many say “ there are a lot of invisible walls and i’m sometimes getting lost- i wish there was a map” So your review actually tackled things many people are critizing the game for.. and again, very simple solutoins.. and why it’s important to listen to the positive and negative. But maybe if peopel stopped glazing htis game so hard core, it would have noticed.. they focused so much on everything else that a siple map or guide would have been really helpful And you can do it in a really creative way- monkey can just pluck a fur blow it and you see a little sparkling trail where you’re suppose to go.. or he just pulls out a map lol.
Interesting that every review seemingly cannot review this game without comparing it to or mentioning souls-like. The developer says it is not a souls-like. I get that some aspects are similar, but it would be nice if reviewers could describe something without mentioning souls imo. Thanks for the review, though.
I agree. Honestly, the combat seems to be fast-paced to be fully Soulslike. Seems more like an in-between fast-paced character action (DMC) and Dark Souls machinacs (finding the right moment to strike). I find Souls is more deliberate and not much room for error, which hasn't really been shown from the gameplay I've seen. Looks more like a game that would have come out in the mid-2000s in its direction style.
Well i mean.. thats to souls credit.. it was just that iconic.. it is what it is.. live in the shadows until you can get out of it. It’s not a bad thing.. and it’s pretty accurate.. fighting bosses et.c. Some peopel relaly love souls like some really don ‘t like it.. but it is a souls like. Personally i would like an uncharted like thing more action adventures puzzles.. so saying its like a souls like tells me its a lot of fighting. So I thnk it’s a great description.
I hate this souls game comparison, always criticizing the game for not being as difficult as it (even though those games are not that difficult for me). The game has a much different direction in combat, it is more similar to dmc than a souls like game, and honestly those types of games usually have much more compelling combat, considering they require more learning.

First of all, many of the developers ensemble their team in gamescience studios after the 1st trailers drop 4 years ago, many joined to help complete this game. 2nd Black Myth Wukong is a game base on 16th century famous Chinese clasic novel Journey to the West, the Monkey King. This game developed had Chinese gamers in mind that Wukong is a well know character based on 1 of the 4 famous classic Chinese literature. Given Gamescience probably didnt expect for this game to be blow up big with the western gamers audience. Gamescience didn't focused on completed baby this storytelling to the majority of players mainly in China. It understandable for many western players outside of China review Black Myth, Wukong not familiar to the story felt kind of lost while playing and wanted to understand the story of Black Myth Wukong.
"I woke up imprisoned and wukong just pulled out his staff, which they left with him..." It sounds like you're doing a review without knowing the basics of the mythology behind the character. WuKong can use any of his 84,000 body hairs to create anything he can think of. His only limitation is his imagination. Taking his staff from him would be pointless, as he could instantly make another one almost endlessly.
That's not technically true, since there were a few times in the story when Wukong's enemies were able to steal his staff and it inconvenienced him pretty heavily (most notably the time with Laozi's stolen Diamond Cutter). That being said, I'd give this a pass both because even without his staff Wukong is super OP, and also because most "captured and put in prison" levels in other ARPGs like this also don't take away your weapons. For example, you also get captured in Dark Souls 1 after being killed by Seath the Scaleless, but you still spawn back in with all your weapons and gear. Taking away the player's main form of attack can work if the developers plan to have a stealth section, or if the player has alternate combat methods and the developers want you to focus on those for that level, but outside of those circumstances taking away the player's ability to play the fun part of the game because the story demands it generally isn't a net positive. Even if it would be more immersive to take away the player's combat options, doing the most fun thing is usually the best way for games to be engaging, and sometimes, in situations like this, that means that the immersion has to take a small hit. At least in this case it's probably not the biggest of deals, since even if the Destined One isn't Sun Wukong, if they're anything like him taking away their primary weapon is going to be an inconvenience against anything other than a demon king.
So are all enemies difficult like other Souls-like games, or does that apply for bosses only/mostly? Because if i have to sweat from my 1st kill in the game, i'll pass the game like many others.

You don't comprehend the lack of a map, when there's a quick travel mechanic, is stupid? Even Elden Ring has a fucking map, while begging you to explore. Same with Ragnarok. Gets clicks. People love slapping the meme label "souls-like" on any game these days.
Hey.. I’m catching on to the slight shade journalist show Asian Developers. Like their games are allll spectacle and no substance. And, what do you mean “never comes up again?” Why would a slained enemy come up again? Also, anyone who played Stellar Blade, knows it has a decent plot.
PS5 Black Myth Wukong Chinese Game From Developers Game Science for PS5 Xbox Series X and PC Console
You might wanna change also available on Xbox series x!! That’s not happening… lol
I don't think it's correct to say "also available on Xbox". It's not. Xbox version is delayed so it would be misleading for people.
I was so ready to buy this game until I found out there’s no physical copy. I am not buying something I can’t own. This generation is pretty lame. I can’t own shadow of the erdtree or kunitsi-gami either. If they actually release physical copies I would buy them all.
I'm pretty sure I remember the developers.saying they would do physical disks as soon as physically able. Just not sure how long it will take...
Suggestion: Read Journey to the west and learn some Chinese. It would change your perspective totally
BMW
An apt acronym!😌
"I woke up imprisoned and wukong just pulled out his staff, which they left with him..."
It sounds like you're doing a review without knowing the basics of the mythology behind the character.

He whining about the lore being hidden in item descriptions and text..... like from software games and many souls likes,
which they given high praise for this exact story telling method before. It disjointed here but "deep" in elden ring, what a joke.
I will watch it, you cant stop me
I think all western reviewers will find such significant drawbacks which 'marred' this game. And we exactly know why 🤷🏼♂️
Oh no! A 8/10, the horror! The game must be absolutely terrible!
@@Mohgenstein The score is fine. The reasoning is bogus. I dislike the inconsistent reasoning given, where it listed as positive in one franchise and then "disjointed" here.
so you're a 8/10 = bad game guy. lol
8/10 is a good score.
You can't just give 9 or perfect score. Looking at the game, DMC5 is way better. the devs themselves said that it's not a soulslike and it looks like a character action rpg.

Tf? no we need a map
You don't comprehend the lack of a map, when there's a quick travel mechanic, is stupid?
Even Elden Ring has a fucking map, while begging you to explore. Same with Ragnarok. Given how reviews have constantly mentioned this, it's safe to assume the level design is probably mediocre and not intuitive in allowing the players to explore based on visual alone...like the 2 games I previously listed.
@@blackmanwithcomputer None of the other Souls games had maps and they all had fast travel. Ocarina of Time had fast travel and no map. Why does fast travel = map to you? Just pay attention and you’ll be fine.
@@blackmanwithcomputerwow I actually never thought of it this way. It could be the reason because on a recently video that got private from a Chinese UA-cam channel. They showed and talked about how there are many places that look “explorable” but end up being locked behind invisible walls. So you might have a point. Every other game has been having maps why not one here especially if it’s linear it shouldn’t have taken much time no?
