Wow that was the plane I did my first solo flight in August 10, 2021! And I literally just finished my license less than two weeks ago. I really miss flying that plane. I never knew what the story was behind it.
Flew C-150's at Camp Humphreys years ago. Good club there at the time. I did many hours of flying at Rucker. OH-58..and fixwing at Enterprise Airport...great Airfield! A legend (BUCK) was the head man on the flightline....Good luck!!
I was stationed at Yokota AFB 1972-1974. While there I was transferred to Kunsan AFB working on F-4's supporting Vietnam. The base is at the southern tip of Korea. It also had a flying club there.
I went through basic training with Taylor. I just stumbled on your video and had no idea that was the Taylor you were talking about until he told me he bought a plane in Korea. What a small world.
If my memory serves me correctly, your 62502 was part of the AERO Club at Kelly, AFB, TX. I flew it and was Maintenance Officer for the Club, which was later disbanded.
That 53 is Navy it's one of my birds we are down In pohang lol I was told there was a flying club out here this video answered my question to what happened lol
I was wondering how you had all of that "free" time that you could spend on this project.... then I saw your rank! As an Army 11B we always wondered where the CWO's were at. They seemed to have unexplainable powers of invisibility. Ha Ha...😂
2 172's for $11,500.00 good. But how much was all the cost of the material to build the crates and the cost for transporting shipping paperwork the fines the korean company that you mentioned that didnt pay that you had to end up paying and the amount you had to pay an A&P to put the aircraft back together? Separate figure from the $11,500 purchase of the airplanes?
That wasn’t Riker’s way of protesting the National Anthem was it ?😂 All kidding aside, great buy on those planes ! Wow, wish I could stumble across a deal like that ! Cute kids too !
The base was 3 rows of 16ft 4x4 covered by3 sections of 4'x8' 3/4" plywood. The sides extended down and were screwed into that base layer with a 2x4 running down the length of the top of the base. With the side sheets offset to overlap the bottom sections so no seams were aligned. The rest was 3/8" plywood. It ended up incredibly strong and rigid.
Amazing story! And maybe I shouldn't be surprised to know that there used to be flying clubs for the US military, overseas. Do they still play the national anthem before the movie at US military bases?
yea we still have Aero Clubs over here....Yokota and Kadena's clubs still goin. I'm Chief Mechanic at Yokota's we're about to get 3 new DA40's and a DA42!
@@libertygarage1918 our two T41s are AF assets, will be transferred to the cannon AeroClub, but 2 M models due to be sold…although we may keep one of the two exclusively to keep our Tokyo tours viable (high wing vs low wing).
What an amazingly supportive wife and family you have!
You got a great deal and so glad your family supported you in this venture. Be careful and enjoy those planes!

It was indeed! Went to Osan after the kelly club closed.
Interesting and impressive, but at the start, it displayed “Part 1.” So where are parts 2 and 3? I’d really like to see the rest of the story.
Deal of a lifetime right there
I started flying at the Osan Aero Club 1991-1993!

Lol it helps, it all was during leave or weekends, but wore the uniform when I had to get guys thru the gate with less hassle.

Nice job.
What strengthening has the pallets in the create box construction, so the folk lift can be centered and not sag each end?

Sorry to see that N51547 was destroyed in a crash in 2021 out in Washington.
My Brother told me when he was over there that they made sure to turn up they anthem before they played ours
You bought the Aero Club birds?!?! I'm the Mechanic down at Yokota
So we're about to break down two of ours (t41s) to send to Cannon....you got plans for these crates?!
Are they going to a club at cannon? Any spares haha I’m always looking for more. I ended up saving all the wood and using it on building projects here
