Hey Thrash Zone Radio. This is Shark (really I run this site) and I just wanted to say thanks for your support. But I must correct you and let you know that the real name of the song is Metalström which is the same meaning as metal storm but in German. I actually titled the song Metalström and if you look on the original release by Black Dragon Records you will see this is true. Although they did not use the 2 dots above the o . I guess some thought it was a misspelling. And the album was recorded in 1984. It may not of hit some of it's release territories until 1985 but it was first out in 1984. Not trying to bang on you just trying to set the record straight. Thanks so much for supporting Manilla Road and the epic metal genre. Up The Hammers & Down The Nails Shark
Wow, thats cool BUT sorry i have to correct u saying: " [...] which is the same meaning as metal storm but in German". I am german actually and this is incorrect since "...ström" is not german. in german storm = Sturm: thundertstorm= GewitterstUrm, hail storm= Hagel Sturm; metalstorm = Metal Sturm what we dont say in german. We alos say metalstorm since we adapted it from english. ström refers to nordic languages tho. norwegian and swedish.
Well you are pretty much correct actually because sturm is the pure German word for storm. Ström is Swedish in origin but also used in the German language as well or at least understood as storm and used that way at times but the title was used in the sense of Maelström. I believe the pure Swedish definition would be many forms of flood or whirlpool or overflow. Rampaging waters type of thing. My grandfather was pure German and he used the word ström and my drummer understands all of this as well. It's sort of like if people agree on whether Germans are related to the Vikings or not. In my family it was always that the Germans were related to the Vikings. My Swedish grandmother used to tell us that everyone from France and North of France in Europe had the Viking blood in them after the quests of the Vikings. I know several Germans that would argue that this is not true but at the same time a recognized belief by others. In all actuality it is a make believe or made up word anyway meaning a storm of metal music which there is no actual word for so I just created my own through fun with words. So in truth it is not even a real word. And here is where it gets confusing: the word maelstrom is actually a French/English word if I am not mistaken. But I am prone to making errors now that age is taking it's toll on me. Ha Ha. Up The Hammers Shark
+Manilla Road Official Current, Stream, Power. Both related to water and electricity. "Strom" in German, "ström" in Swedish and "strøm/straum" in Norweigan. The viking word was "straumr", but I am uncertain of the ethymology beyond that:) The word maelstrom is believed to originate from the Dutch word maalstroom, but is commonly used in all of Scandinavia as well as English. It is the combination of "male" and "straum". So it is a "grinding stream". The word maul on the other hand does seem to originate from French/Latin. Not sure if related to maal/male though.
Ahhh just when life begins to apply its full course of weight, engrossing my joy with it's disgusting reality -Manilla comes on...this song as of now...and damn, I am thankful once more
From the grave comes the storm fire and ice, and battle horns. Through the night a dark star burns Titans fight, the King returns. Demons eyes spread fear in pain Throughout the minds of those too sane To realize this is no game, Drinking the lies in Heaven's name. Spear of Tiw, forged by Muse Majik mound of Crom. Some they learn, some they burn In the wake of Metalstorm. From the veils blows the storm. Lightning strikes from the sword. Warriors ride upon the wind. All Hallows Night, the hunt begins. Lord of Flies doth spread the plage Throughout the lives of those to blame. For all the lies in Heaven's name The Lords of Light shall rise again. Holy Grail, Silver sails, Court of Avalon. Some they learn, some they burn In the wake of Metalstorm.
@Eduardo Fernandez something like that, but I prefer to think that these lyrics are related to the origin of metal. To be precise, not actually origin but more likely nature and attitude, you know, eternal fight of Good and Evil which our life is.
One of my favorite Manilla Road songs for sure. The lyrics are just epic, and the music rock n' rolling heavy metal (as is to be expected of course, lol). Badass for sure though
just a random germanic language speaker wanting to point out that the origin of the words "storm/sturm" and "ström/stream" does 100% have the same origin. It is obvious from the similarities of the words and what they actually describe (a violent stream of water is literally storming water), but they are likely to have split up during proto-germanic times or maybe even earlier (proto-indoeuropean)
In Swedish the word "ström" means either current or power, as in water and electricity related matters respectively. It's also a relatively common surname.
Many thanks for put this on air

Mark, "Metalstorm" in German would be "Metalsturm" :P
I like how you guys ended the Epilogue of Crystal Logic with the same sound as you did with the beginning of Open the Gates, that's a very nice touch.

This is my inofficial headcanon theme for Balthasar Gelt of Warhammer Fantasy. He is referred to as the Metalstorm. And it just kind of fits.
