Thanks for the well thought out response and for viewing as informative and not us attacking stainless steel snorkels. I’m super keen to understand more about the airflow and if they’re different to traditional snorkel systems. Yes I’d love a cap Aaron Mitchell
How much extra is a silencer though? Majority of people with any staino snorkel don't have silencers. Most men might enjoy the sound but I bet most of our wives don't lol. Mine in particular lol. Proven facts how much quieter it makes it? Videos for both makes on noise, water ingress, dust ingress and expulsion would be good. Un edited tho of course.
Any further info yet in regards to performance? I'm all over the 5 inch snorkel, not opposed to upgrading the air box BUT I'd like to at least know there is no detrimental effect to performance (gains would be a welcome addition) Cheers
My 2nd hand lux came with a stainless snorkel, sounds great but fails at its primary job in the rain. car went into limp mode on the highway, had to swap the saturated filter and clean the MAF sensor. really want to swap back to a safari, but not sure if the safari template will cover over the ledgendex hole
Yeh that’s not cool and not the first time I’ve heard that. The templates are available separately for some snorkels, might be worth investing to see if it’s possible. Thanks for tuning in
I've got a heavy ZD30 GU Patrol, long wheelbase, toolboxes, heavy. it struggles keeping up even with loaded trucks on the road so I'm looking at a tune, not race car, but maybe 145-180kw. What I want to know is what size is the safari snorkel for a GU ZD30 Patrol? Will it be a weak link if I'm upgrading my intake & exhaust to 3" full flow and a bigger turbo?
What about dust? The snorkels main purposes are to prevent water and dust from getting into the air box. I’m assuming dust wasn’t talked about because the safari ram head sucks in 3x as much as the stainless snorkel?
Not at all, we didn’t cover that but not for the reasons you’ve mentioned but because we just forgot. I’d love to see the data on that but I expect you’re right! Not sure about 3 times as much but for sure it’s going to be increased because there’s simply more air flow going into the air box. Is that what you mean?
A snorkels primary function is stopping water ingress. There is an air filter to capture dust and keep it out of the intake track. There is no filter to capture water and stop it progressing down the intake track. The other marketing claim of snorkels getting cooler air is stupid, unless the intake is set up to draw air directly from under the bonnet, which no manufacturer does since carb's got binned.
@@Mouldyturnip75 Thanks for commenting. We've covered the whole cooler air detail in previous videos. Maybe we should get a temperature probe into an intake to check the marketing hype and see if there's any basis to the claim!
@@MORE4x4_auno different to the OEM intake position - engine needs air to operate, but if your bonnet deep in water you'll be wishing you had a snorkel over your oem intake.
I’ll do a video on mine when I get it back in 2 weeks. Plus ram effect ok so this is what I was told by an aviation engineer is that a ram effect will only happen at around 500km/h. An also when just cruising without the right foot going stupid which I do struggle with 🤣🤣 my Fabwitz snorkel is quite. Will be good to see some of my results soon too. Great video again mate 👍🏼🤘🏽
Hey buddy, thanks for commenting. I’d be interested to see the data on ram effect, it’s super interesting to me. See if you can test the noise in the same way we did and check out how noisy it is. Thanks for watching. Aaron Mitchell
Yes we do but we’ve got so many in post production and an ever growing list of new projects it takes time to edit everything we produce. Thanks for commenting and tuning in, it’ll be here soon.
Let me ask you a few questions How many race cars have forward facing intakes vs any other way? Have you ever stuck your hand out the window while driving and made a cup shape? Have you ever googled flow around an object?
Thanks for investing the time to comment, that’s precisely why we put chapters in the comments. How would you have made the same video and covered all the same value points the same but shorter? How long do you think it should have been?
@@MORE4x4_au OK. I'm not trying to be a 'hater' or anything, But I see this a lot on UA-cam. I would assume everyone watching your videos is an enthusiast and knows what a snorkel is, what water ingress means, etc. So you don't need to explain it or labour on each point so long. 6 mins for water ingress is just painful. If you think of Sitcoms. An episode of Friends is 23mins long. They can fit a lot into that 23mins, they don't explain the jokes or the interactions. Keep up the good work. 👍

Totally agree with your opinion and Safari selection.
Safari engineering R&D have my vote.
Gday Kris, thanks for chiming in. I appreciate your comments and I’m stoked you got some value out of it.
Do this with a trubo diesel. Its the turbo induction noise which is the killer.
Yeh roger that, I've had several turbo diesel vehicles with staino snorkels and it's pretty brutal.
which one is the best ?
This is all about you buddy, what’s best for you?

From memory it’s a couple of hundred bucks extra for the hush capacitor.
I’d like to see the evidence on the airflow and noise levels too

Is it auto or manual? What size tyres are you running? Is it regularly serviced? How many km?
Hahahah love the commentary around active and passive system!
A significant amount of fibre should fix the blocked bung hole issue

Well excuse me…I am quite regular as is…I don’t need anymore finger (oops damn auto correct) fibre to make that blow.

Plus with the safari snorkel you can put one of those uni filters to help filter it little better
Yeh that’s true but they are restrictive on air flow and consequently engine performance
Who needs any supporting data when your wearing a Safari hat 😉?
There was always going to be one!

If there's dust in the air, any snorkel is going to intake that dust.
