Had them both but somehow I still like the EMG’s beter. It took Luke about 30 years to discover every aspect of this setup and I guess for him it was time for a change. For me personally, I’m still not done with the Luke II setup. What has been good for Luke, is definitely still good for me. 🎸
Good comparison, thanks. I really miss my Luke 2. Sold it to afford a Suhr, which I don't regret, but am now looking to get a Luke back again. Don't suppose you could compare those two with a Luke 1 reissue as well?!!
Cheers dude, it's definitely more traditional sounding, a bite more bite and openness, but the boost gives ya serious options for tones. With the boost in and the tone rolled back in on the neck pickup you can really get convincing Les Paulesque sounds. It's great. I love it.
Congrats on the new guitar Philip, it sounds great. I think its a bit more open sounding and less compressed. Both great guitars of course, enjoy her man!
I couldn't choose, I love them both. I guess because the buttercream was the first I got and it was a limited edition colour I'd choose that as it'd be harder to replace. But the L3 has the rose wood neck which was also limited. Aaaaargh. I can't decide.
I don't remember to be honest. I think I was using Ernie Ball coated Slinkies back then. But it could have regular D'Addario either. I honestly can't remember. I only use Elixir Optiwebs these days but they weren't available back then
@@dariocrocetta9026 I fell in love with the neck immediately , first time I ever picked up a Luke I felt totally comfortable and at home. I had been playing mostly Ibanez RGs before that

Thanks man i've finally replaced the emg 85 on my luke 2 with the dimarzio transition and I could'nt be happier
Did you keep the active circuit?
@@cobowe no, I have removed it. It's all the way passive right now

Nice, thanks for posting. Both sound good, but to me the III has a bit more clarity and dynamics.
Hi Leo, I was using a line6 xt-live for the distortion into a crate 15w practice amp, not the greatest tone ever but good enough for a comparison.
If only one to keep, which one would you pick? Tks!

Hi Man! what amp and effects are you using here? where do the distortion come from?
I don't Dean, haven't played any of the new sub series guitars.
do you know much about the quality of the sterling sub silo 3?
Is there a treble bleed on volume pot ?
no but because they both have active electronics the keep the high end as you roll the volume back.
Philip Joyce Do you keep the highs even in the passive mode on Luke 3 ? (Important thing for me) :)
There is no passive mode on the L3. The pickups are passive but the active circuit is always engaged.
ok thanx
Hi, which strings do you use on these?

Thanks,I meant the gauge
Ah. Ok I use 10-46
@@PhilipJoyceMusician thanks!did you find easy to adapt to these necks?any advice for someone that comes from a stratocaster?
I use the same gauge
