Hate to get sad in a UA-cam comments section, but my dad passed away a short while ago, and he left me his camera in his will. He left me an entirely full camera bag full of things that I couldn't even name, let alone use. I had little idea as to how to use this camera, but thanks to this video I have learned so much and feel ready to go and use it with efficiency. I love how the video is explained so perfectly, and I was extremely happy when I could do the things that you were doing in the video; I just felt very proud of myself lol. This video is 10/10 in helpfulness. Thank you so much!
@@jesus_says_chill8688 bless this comment and you. I just bought one yesterday awaiting delivery 2moro. £170. I came here to learn about something I know I will love. I am happy you found a bag of treasures that has cost a fortune to build, but instead of seeing value, you felt the sentiment. I hope you still have it all.
In my days of dreaming about this camera, I would watch this video from time to time, attempting to learn the ropes. I am thrilled to say that it is finally in my possession, and I would just like to thank you for such valuable content. Knowing I can come back to this video for any future support is really nice. I think it's really awesome of you guys to do this thorough video for free. Thanks!
Hi Paijo'e.....I'll try and help. I recently purchased this camera and am learning the camera systems too. Note that on the right top of your camera you have a front dial control and rear dial control. The one in the back is the Main Command Dial while the right front dial is the Sub Command Dial. So, keep those two dial controls in mind. Ok....1) Turn camera on. 2) Press the info button on the back to display your screen. 3) Press and hold AF M button on the front of camera. 4) Use the Rear Command Dial (remember above) to control the Focus Mode. 5) Use the Front Sub Command Dial (remember above) to control the AF area mode. Hope that helps....Hope I explained it correctly....Good luck!
I have been a professional photographer for 30+ years. This D7200 is my 8th Nikon in that time. I SO appreciate this video! I assumed that there would be a DVD in the box (as there always has been) so I knew I would just rely on either the Nikon site or UA-cam to give me the quick down and dirty on this one. I really appreciate your tips and your no-nonsense approach to getting up and running. And BTW I just bought your book. You did a smart thing. Others may not agree. Yes. Your learning curve is higher on this camera. However, with available tutorials and your effort to learn you have a camera that you can grow into and truly enjoy. I'm doing the same thing as an old film guy. I have been using this camera for several years now, yet I started at the very beginning and still learned a great deal. The presentation was well organized, the video quality was terrific, I could easily follow the menu and replicate what you were showing on my own camera. I liked not only the details of the functions of the camera but the terrific explanations of when to use the various settings. This is by far the best video on the Nikon DL7200 I have seen. Thank you for doing this!

Tony, thank you for the tutorial. I just received the D7200 for my BD. The information that you provide has saved me numerous hours of researching the user manual. Of coarse I'll refer to the manual as needed in the field until all the different functions and button placements becomes second nature when the camera is in my hands, but you have certainly helped me become better acquainted with it. Thanks again for helping me become a better photographer.
Hey there, just wanted to say, over the past week or so I've been viewing several different websites looking for the best information on learning my camera and taking the best photo's and your site has drawn me back every time. I just bought 3 of your digital books and am excited to get started!! Do you also give face to face lessons?

I have watched many many videos on the Nikon D7200 trying to learn as much as I can about my new camera. Your video has been the best one I've watched to-date hands down. You have a life long subscriber. Thanks for sharing so much of your valuable experience!
Nice Video. You're really good at explaining things. You like what you do and that is visible - I enjoy your videos, although I know this stuff, but I enjoy it nevertheless. I advise people with an interest in photography who want to learn more about it to buy your books.
Thanks Tony - just upgraded from my D3200 to the D7200 and was completely overwhelmed by the thick manual and the many buttons in strange locations and your video made is so much easier to get the jist of this new toy. Thanks!
Damn! This guy is practical and so clever in digital photography. Clearly the best person to help beginners, I bet my money on it. It's so usefully detailed. Real photography education is by following him and learning from him. Also, trial and error approach, personal belief... Thank you for taking such time for "us".
Tony, I've been following your videos for a couple of years now. Just got a D7100 and you have opened my eyes... You're a genius. Thanks ever so much as you had my full attention for an hour on youtube!
I had to chuckle at the comment at 4:09 about it taking forever for pictures to transfer to the computer for viewing... I remember when the wait to view my pictures involved posting a roll of 35mm off to a developer and waiting a couple of weeks for the developed prints to be posted back to me lol
I was fortunate in that my Dad worked for Kodak. So developing was inexpensive for me. However, it took about a month, because my Dad would leave the film in his truck for a week, then leave it on his desk for a week, he'd take it to the lab and they'd get it back that afternoon, and then he'd forget it on his desk for another week or so. I'd forgotten what I'd taken pictures of by the time I got prints back...
I follow your channel, always love the help you and Chelsea provide. I JUST purchased a Nikon D7100 for a "bang around" camera and to take advantage of some older glass. This video is SO helpful, thank YOU! I realize it was recorded a while ago, just shows how important it is to keep the old videos around. Thanks!
+Tony Northrup Which Focus Mode and Focusing Points Mode would you use for shooting video? (overhead product demonstration, for example) Currently using AFS / 51 Focusing Points - Enjoying the d7100 so far!
Thanks for this very informative video. I recently got a D7200 and was initially overwhelmed with all the features and controls/buttons, your video made everything clear and gave me the confidence to take picture in something other than "Auto".
So much easier watching you than boring myself with the manual more than I already have! Thank you. Helped me finish upgrading from a D3300 to this camera to find my preferred settings!!!
Tony, you are a fantastic teacher! I now know more about my new Nikon D7100 than I know about my D70 that I have used a lot for 13 years. Many thanks! John
BRILLIANT!!! Thank you!! I just got this for Christmas and was finally able to sit down with my camera last night and watch your video. I've learned more from this video than all the books and tutorials I've read and watched before. Getting your books for sure!
I bought a D7200 this week and your video was great to get to know the basics to get me started on the right foot! Thanks for the tips and recommendations!
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together Tony. As a first time DSLR owner who just bought a D7200, opening the box and looking through the manual was overwhelming. So many buttons and toggles... I thought "I'll never use this". Having watched your video twice now I feel like I at least know what my camera is capable off and in time I will be able to take full advantage of this amazing piece of technology.Looking forward to expolring all the features and collecting the accesories, including your books! Thanks again from the newbies!
These videos plus SDP book are fantastic. I've been watching, reading and researching and now upgraded all my DSLR kit (D7200 plus Sigma 18-35). All your videos are visually beautifully presented. Love your work Tony & Chelsea! Cheers from Australia
As always, an excellent video. I have been starring at the massive book that came with my Nikon for months feeling completely overwhelmed. Thank you for walking us through the basics. I will be buying your book.
I agree with a previous comment. This is a very good tutorial for a beginer - detailed yet comprehensive, covers a wide variety of most important topics. Well done, Tony!
I can't tell you just how great this video is! I've just got the D7200 as my first DSLR, so it was extremely helpful to have access to such clear and comprehensive user tutorial. Thanks!
I just ordered the D7200 finally upgrading from my D40. I was a tad bit concerned that I was going to be in over my head. This video is the absolute best! Camera will be here in the next couple of days and feel that I'm ready to go with it. I've have placed twice in Philadelphia's National Arts Program and knew in order to be competitive this year I was going to need to upgrade. So you have defiantly help convince me I made a good choice. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this video. I picked up my new D7200 today and was feeling a bit overwhelmed as this is an upgrade to my old D40X. Your easy teaching style made it seem quite easy. :)
Tony, this video production and the content has been most helpful. Your communication style and easy to follow way of depicting features and functionality here was so awesome.....Thank you so very much!
Awesome video! I'm thinking of upgrading from the D5000 to the D7200 and this was not only a great refresher of general photography basics, but lots of detail on how I would operate the new camera. I also love that you added in your recommendations for lenses & other accessories! Thank you so much!
What a great video. I've had this camera (actually the D7000) for a couple years now and even taken two classes and didn't learn half of what you showed me in this video. The number one thing is I never figured out how to focus correctly, now I know, single dot focus. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much, Tony. My D7100 just arrived and I'm super excited! I appreciate you taking the time to help by making these videos and I'm sure most people don't realize how much work that involves. Look forward to reading your book too!
best video explanation. i have a d5200, and i have learned to use it well. i recently upgraded to the d7100. this is the best video tutorial i have watched, and i have watched several. you have that "nikon guy" beat. thanks for putting this out there.
I just got this camera. It was a long search, waffling back and forth but this was the final choice. Thanks for this video it's a big help. The last camera I held (phone aside) was film Nikon so the learning curve here is steep.
Thank you so much! I hate reading through the camera books. That's so boring and I usually lose interest. Love the visual tutorials. Everything you need to know. Learned so much. I am saving this video so I can go back to it any time I need a refresher.
I just love your videos. So much better than any paper manual. I have referred back to your instruction just to back up my knowledge as I progress with my D7200. So easy to follow and understand. Many thanks.
Hey Tony..!! Love from India. I just purchased my Camera yesterday. This is my first DSLR. Hands Down the Best Video! I am still figuring out couple of things and I am going to keep watching your video continuously for next couple of days to master using my camera. Thank you very much. God Bless
I have only recently taken up DSLR Photography and stumbled across a few of your video tuturials online. I have also just subscribed to Photoshop/Lightroom CC and i must say the yourself and Chelsea have made my life a lot easier with your simplified easy to understand videos on all techniques. So much so i have just ordered Your Stunning digital photography book and if i enjoy it as much as watching the videos i will likely order the Lightroom CC book aswell. Thank you so much for the help
What an excellent informative video. I bought this camera about 8 weeks ago and I've had good results but your tips and advice have made some things much clearer and helped with enabling good sensible settings. Great work.
This has been the very BEST explanation of the functions of my camera that I have had, and I have watched a LOT of videos and seen a lot of books. Thanks so much!!! I will be purchasing your book and videos!
very informative and useful tutorial. I purchased d7500 and this is the best tutorial I found for 'basic controls'. even if it is for d7200 I find it very, very useful.
Great big "THANK YOU" to Tony! You and Chelsea are great! Just purchased a D7200 and am finding this video absolutely marvelous! Also, recently purchased your book, Stunning Digital Photography. Truly appreciate the education from this video and in the books to come.
Also I just want to say: this is one of the best tutorial I've ever seen, beside the content it's also high quality image and perfect sound! Thank You!
Thank you. I was stressing so much about switching from the Nikon D5100 to the D7200 (IMO their bodies are worlds apart) . I'm a visual/ hands-on learner so the written guide is difficult for me to learn from so this video is invaluable to me. You've helped me align myself with this camera and now I can't wait to have some fun in the Rockies this weekend.
Thank you. The D7200 is a camera with lots of features and does take some time to become familiar. This video helped a lot in knowing it's various functions quite well. Thanks for index too to jump into the different video sections, very helpful indeed.
Great video! Got this camera yesterday for Mother's Day. Just bought your book too so I can have as a reference. I hope i can remember it all. Costa Rica in 3 weeks. Family vacay, wildlife, waterfalls etc. Feeling a little overwhelmed. Wish I could have you in my back pocket in case I forget settings :)
Mr. Northrup, I've just gotten this camera! My very first DSLR! Wow! What a handful! I really enjoy your video and feel like it was a good way to start. I did have a bit of trouble keeping up and trying to get some of your recommended settings to get started, but I suspect I'll be re-watching this more than once. Thanks again!
With this way of explanation, you should have 10M subscribers! I learned a lot of things from this video about my D7100. Very useful, and thank you so much for that.
Thank you so much! This helped me a lot...just switched over from my D5100 which broke and there was much more difference in the two cameras than I had expected.
Hi Tony. Thanks for a wonderful overview of the D7200, which my husband and I have just bought (my first DSLR). I've watched parts of the video more than once, and made notes. There's a lot to learn, and enjoyed it very much. I'm sure I'll be watching many more of your great videos.
Thanks Tony and Chelsea for your great effort in putting this kind of information available. You to are great partners and knowledgeable photographers. I have a d7200 and learned so much from you too. Thanks.
Thanks very much, Tony! I just got the D7200 (moving up from a D80) - a HUGE difference. Your video gave me a great, quick intro into a camera which, at first, I found rather daunting. Importantly, you pointed out recommended default changes and features I'll probably never use. An hour or so very well-spent. Kudos!
Awesome video. Tony makes it very easy to understand your camera and choose which options are best to use. Halfway through the video I had to pause it so I could go online and purchase his book, Stunning Digital Photography. This is my second Nikon Camera and I was really intimidated by this upgrade to a D7200. What I found in this video not only helped me with my new camera, it also helped me understand my first camera, the Nikon d3400. Thank you, Tony, I look forward to more from you on UA-cam and Facebook!
Hi Tony, thank you for sharing your video tutorial. I just bought my D7200 last Friday. I'm glad I run into your video. I'm very excited to learn photography as my new hobby next to cycling and computers. I watch your video over & over, I like what you said about "Photography is an Art & Science both at the same time, things like emotions, mood, timing, posing, lighting, composition, shadows, color depth, these are important part of photography that make far bigger impact on your pictures than using the right camera settings". Looking forward to read your books/videos on How to Create Stunning Digital Photography, Adobe Lightroom 5/6 and Photography buying guide which I will order soon. Thanks!

Of coarse I'll refer to the manual as needed in the field until all the different functions and button placements becomes second nature when the camera is in my hands, but you have certainly helped me become better acquainted with it.
Thanks again for helping me become a better photographer.
Testing out my new D7200 today at my daughter's volleyball practice. Need to figure it out before the club season begins!!
This is the best Tutorial to get me started in photography with my D7100, simply explained without all the jargon!
Thanks so much Tony.........
Just got my d7200, trying to turn my hobby into something more!!
Hey there, just wanted to say, over the past week or so I've been viewing several different websites looking for the best information on learning my camera and taking the best photo's and your site has drawn me back every time. I just bought 3 of your digital books and am excited to get started!! Do you also give face to face lessons?
Just starting out with photography and bought your book. Can't stop reading and it really helps me with putting my alarm so i will be awake for golden hour.......
This was better then reading the tool guide that comes with the camara
sterling rodas yes coz human beings catch up fast through visuals,i mean what we see through eyes.visuals activates the abilities of a human brain...whereas a theory concept takes time to activate the brains
BernhardRottweiler Thanks!
Thanks Tony - just upgraded from my D3200 to the D7200 and was completely overwhelmed by the thick manual and the many buttons in strange locations and your video made is so much easier to get the jist of this new toy. Thanks!
Great video. I ordered a D7200 yesterday so this is a good primer.
+pjculbertson55 shall I do for it as well? :) how you find it so far after one month using it? thx.
+Mahmoud Said
Really great camera. I'm still learning how to use it though.
Damn! This guy is practical and so clever in digital photography. Clearly the best person to help beginners, I bet my money on it. It's so usefully detailed. Real photography education is by following him and learning from him. Also, trial and error approach, personal belief...
Thank you for taking such time for "us".
btw I think Nikon watched this video. .because my brand new d7200 came defaulted with the camera beep off..
Mine did too! LoL
Thanks!
Amazing tutorial! Thank you!
+Recipe Rack Thanks!
I have this camera and im learning because im dumb like if you did the same thing (you aint dumb)
So much easier watching you than boring myself with the manual more than I already have! Thank you. Helped me finish upgrading from a D3300 to this camera to find my preferred settings!!!
I got this for 150$ ( second hand )
harshit kapoor I got this at 1$ second hand hahaha 😂😂😂😂
A super smooth and super easy-to-follow video that gave a flash intro to my new camera -- much appreciated!
Tony, you are a fantastic teacher! I now know more about my new Nikon D7100 than I know about my D70 that I have used a lot for 13 years. Many thanks! John
Just purchased the D7200, this video was brilliant to show you the way around the camera without going crosseyed reading the manual....
Glad to help!
@@TonyAndChelsea can you recommend an every day use lens, that can cover all eventualities, rather than taking all my lenses on holiday/vacation?
Just got myself a D7200. This video was a awesome first watch video.
Thanks
BRILLIANT!!! Thank you!! I just got this for Christmas and was finally able to sit down with my camera last night and watch your video. I've learned more from this video than all the books and tutorials I've read and watched before. Getting your books for sure!
Glad I could help! Thanks!
I bought a D7200 this week and your video was great to get to know the basics to get me started on the right foot! Thanks for the tips and recommendations!
I just bought the D7100 as my first jump into photography. Your tutorial has helped me immensely! Thank you so much for uploading!!!
Hi Tony, I just bought a Nikon D7200, by far your tutorial is the best, you talked about everything I needed, explanation is great, thank you so much!
These videos plus SDP book are fantastic. I've been watching, reading and researching and now upgraded all my DSLR kit (D7200 plus Sigma 18-35). All your videos are visually beautifully presented. Love your work Tony & Chelsea! Cheers from Australia
+Geoff Scott Thanks, Geoff! Glad to help!
Great Introduction ,,,, No time wasting ,,, clear explanation that gets you very familiar with the general concepts and buttons .... Million Thanks
I can't tell you just how great this video is! I've just got the D7200 as my first DSLR, so it was extremely helpful to have access to such clear and comprehensive user tutorial. Thanks!
This is one of the most, comprehensive videos I've ever watched, you got a new student, thank you!
Today, I bought my first DSLR Nikon D7200, and this tutorial by Tony was very informative, thank you so much for the video!!!
Your video beats the written Nikon manual by miles. Fantastic and extremely beneficial.
Many thanks.
Wonderful information. Don't let the length deter listening. This is worth the time. Thanks, Tony, for making this!
I just switch from D3200 to D7200 and your video helps a lot to learn the camera. Thnx for this kind of videos Tony & Chelsea
I have mine and thanks God we have nice people like Tony & Chelsea to guide us with that lovely machine. You are the greatest teacher man!
+NYRFanSTL Thanks, and glad I could help!
Thanks, and glad I could help!
Thank you. This video ticks all the boxes for me and it's now my 'fallback to' when I want a quick and understandable refresher!
best video explanation. i have a d5200, and i have learned to use it well. i recently upgraded to the d7100. this is the best video tutorial i have watched, and i have watched several. you have that "nikon guy" beat. thanks for putting this out there.
I just got this camera. It was a long search, waffling back and forth but this was the final choice. Thanks for this video it's a big help. The last camera I held (phone aside) was film Nikon so the learning curve here is steep.
This is the most useful video i have found to get to know my camera, i wanted even to change my camera for a different one. Thanks !
GIve a like to this comment if this was your case
(or similar)
Thank you so much! I hate reading through the camera books. That's so boring and I usually lose interest. Love the visual tutorials. Everything you need to know. Learned so much. I am saving this video so I can go back to it any time I need a refresher.
By far the most comprehensive and detailed and understandable tutorial I have watched.Great!!,
+mark ventress Glad to help!
Glad we could help, and enjoy the books!
Revisiting this video for 1st time since 2016. Learned even more. Thank you!
very informative and useful tutorial.
Marguerite Portagallo you're welcome! Glad to help.
Thanks!
+Michael Casareo Thanks, Michael!
How did it go with photography, is it still a hobby?
@@kipsangSmoses Yes, I never stop to this day and I loved it. I upgrade to Nikon D580 and D5.
I just bought a D7200 and you were the best video I have watched so far, I have subscribed and I look forward to more informative videos. Many thanks.
