This right here is an amazing idea. I made one and it works great. The repeater I use has directional antennas so I try and keep them aimed at the drone. I also just made a case for mine. Similar to what you made. A Dell laptop case from goodwill for $6 and a sheet of replacement foam for a chair for $4. Definitely beats $100 thanks for the ideas man.
Hey thanks a lot! That's awesome you found a laptop case that fits it. That's a good idea; most of the cases I've seen that would work well are designed for laptops or travel DVD players. Thanks for sharing euvi85!
Puede ser cualquier extensión de wifi ? ... tienes algún video de que como funciona ?
This was really helpful! I've seen how it boosted the signal. Great! I'm gonna buy myself one now.
Just sold my Bebop 2. Although a quiet for, compared to the Mavic Air, I had issues trusting the battery. I guess I'm a bit spoiled from past drones, Autel, and DJI. Happy flying.
TJ Parsons A Drone Voyager Hi, yeah I am in the same boat. I gave mine away last year and upgraded to a Mavic Air and love it. My batteries on the parrot were doing the same thing, they would drain really fast and be unpredictable.
So how about plugging the wifi repeater to the USB port of the Skycontroller 1, would this improve the overall signal and range ?
you should do another video testing this mod out to see its capabilities. keep up the good work
neville bartos hey, thanks! Actually i do have a video showing it in use, here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/lvBkpKs8_SY/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
Does this work with the jumping sumo?
Sorry I have no idea, I've never used it.
What model iphone did you use?
I see you have been many places, but have you seen majestic Independence OR?
Hey what’s up man? Haha yeah but I haven’t been there since the 10 year reunion!
Hahahaha I knew you looked familiar. Small world! Your channel looks cool man. I'll have to check out some of your adventures. Where you at these days?
FreakinFreedom Haha yeah, not to many Jacobys running around. Thanks a lot bro, I appreciate it. I’m currently in Honduras filming a travel series of the culture and Mayan Ruins here. You?
Dang! That's awesome. Not sure if you remember me or not.. name's Colton, had the big blue ice cream truck back in the day. How'd you fall into all the sweet travels? And I'm working at radian weapons in Salem. Last day end of next month, then I'll be riding the trans America trail on my bike. Going to film it with the bebop, that's how I stumbled on your vids😁
Hey yeah I remember haha. It's been a long time. I started traveling abroad at 25 and just never stopped haha. Oh wow, thats awesome, it will be quite the adventure! Are you going solo or with others? How long will the trip take? Yeah thats funny, I used the Bebop 2 for over a year and filmed most of my travel videos with it. I recently upgraded to the Mavic Air and will be posting my first video with it this week, from down here in Honduras. (it was confiscated in Belize so unfortunately I couldn't film there)
So do I connect my phones wifi to the extenders network or strait to the drone like normal??!!
Hey JD-Vids, so you will need to connect the extender to the drone and then the drone to the extenders wifi signal. It will be the name of your drone with a PLUS at the end. That is the amplified signal. Hope that helps!
I did this setup but i used a flypad works great
Michael Blade Nice! Good to know, thanks.
A year later, and that range extender is now out of production. They have a new version 2.0 that is 2.4 and 5ghz. Is that better, or best to stick with a 2.4Ghz only one? I also wonder if you can convert an omni directional antenna like this to directional by just cutting a coke can in half and attaching it to the back side of the antenna... Hmmm...
thanks dude useful video
Hey thanks a lot Nicholas Baron-Morgan, glad it helps. Thanks for watching!
Hi Jac,...Seems like this would work for DJI Spark. Do you agree?
mosephina Hi, I’m not sure; I have never flown a DJI spark, so I couldn’t say for sure. Thanks for watching!
Great Video but I have one question. I have a Samsung galaxy S6 will the setup still work with android?
EssentialTech Hey, Thanks! Yeah as far as I know this will work with basically any smart phone because all it does is amplify the parrots Wi-Fi signal. As long as your phone can pick up a Wi-Fi signal it should be good to go. Thanks for watching!
Just Curious Jacob....what model of phone is in this video? Cheers
Hey Steve, for this example I'm using my Iphone 6 plus. I've also used this setup with an Iphone 5 and Android running tablet. Thanks for the question!
Can we use this extender to action camera like sj cam what to extend the wifi range of my action camera
you can use moga control from 1:10
Yeah! Those look cool, also MAD CATZ makes a bluetooth controller that sounds like it works well with the Parrot Bebop 2; but I've never tried them. I just try to minimize what I have to pack and carry with me, but yeah great idea. Thanks for sharing and watching Mcl Falcon!
Thanks for the reply. Just curious how bad the video lag is by just using the phone? Does it get worse the farther away you are from the drone? Thanks
Hi Jacobys, I like your videos.
I am from Brazil and I'd like to know where you bought the piloting rod adapters (I saw you use on your smartphone's screen);
Thanks.
Hi Kennedy Alexandre Souza Aragao Aragao! Thanks! I'm not sure what you are referring to, do you mean the small Logitech joysticks?
it can works on AR 2.0 drone?
This works for 5 gHz only, right?
Yes I believe so, thanks for watching mrkentdotcom!
Is it as save for fly as the skycontroller?
Martin Blažek Hello, I'm not sure what you mean by "safe", but it works well as shown in my other videos and in the "distance test video". However the range is not as far as the sky controller. Thanks for watching!
nice
katis999 thanks 👍
Thanks!!
Can it work with parrot 1?
Yes it works the same way with the Parrot 1 or 2. Someone commented the other day that they reached over 1 KM with this simple setup :) Hope it helps, Thanks for watching! More Parrot Bebop videos coming this June!
Wow ...great , I am going to try this
I need to download the USB extender App to my iPhone ?
Any USB extender can connect and work with the battery bank?
Yes to connect your Bebop to this wifi extender you need to download the free app and use it to create a wifi connection the first time you set up the wifi with the Bebop. Only the first time. I've only used two different wifi extenders with the battery bank, I will make a video soon showing the other wifi extender as well.
Hey. what is the maximum distance your drone flies?
Hi there, so using this wifi extender I have reached about 430 meters, and that's with no skycontroller; only using the drone/wifi extender/iphone. Heres a video showing it in use: ua-cam.com/video/lvBkpKs8_SY/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
do you need to go in the settings on the wifi stick to set it up and what's the range.
Yes, the Xiaomi Wifi Extender comes with instructions (and free App) for the initial setup to pair it with the Bebop 2 wifi signal; after the initial setup it will automatically connect when you turn on the Bebop 2 (like shown in the video). As far as the range, every cell phone will probably differ so I left out a specific "range", but with my Iphone 6 Plus, it doubles the range of just using the Bebop 2 and my Iphone. But again, NOT near as far as the skycontroller distance. This is just a miniature/lightweight alternative, and is my backpacking/travel setup I use and it works great for that, with improved signal strength and range. Thanks for watching and for the questions Ben!
Hi. For some reason freeflight pro won't connect to the new bebop....plus signal. Any way to grt it to accept the new boosted signal?
I dunno, Im using a Refurbished Bebop 2 and an iPhone 7, no problems except iPhone 7 is the worst thing Apple ever made.
ziblot123 lol. Thanks anyways.
So what kind of range are you getting with this setup?
Hi twinscrew928, every cell phone will probably differ so I left out a specific "range", but with my Iphone 6 Plus, it doubles the "out of the box range" just using the Bebop 2 and my Iphone. There are a lot of variables like terrain, weather, wifi interference, so it ranges from 300-500 meters. So again, NOT nearly as far as the Skycontroller distance. This is just a miniature/lightweight alternative, and is my backpacking/travel setup I use and it works great for that, with improved signal strength FPS and range. Thanks for watching
Can't this setup be used for any WIFI drone?
Hi Jac.I made the same combo but i only see the drone videosignal and i cant controll it. Can you give me some tips?
Hi, so Im not sure what the problem is. That is really strange you can see the video signal on your phone, but there are no controls considering its all together on the App, so if you can see an image, your Bebop should be connected and you should have all normal controls with the Freeflight Pro App. I mean, what happens when you connect your phone to the bebop without the wifi extender? It should be the exact same.. this combo is only making the wifi signal stronger, it does not effect the free flight pro app.
JacobysJourneys when I connect without the xioaomi wifi repeter everythings is working fine.when I connected to the repeter my drone cant fly.i click the screen for take off and nothing happens.
kovacs norbert Ok yeah I have no idea why it would do that. I’ve never had that happen, or heard it happening to anyone else using it.
JacobysJourneys Ok,thx everything..maybe my phone is the problem. Xiaomi redmi note 4
Does it work with 5.8 GHz
Sorry, Im not sure. I don't use this drone anymore, now I use a DJI Mavic Air. But maybe a Google search would give you a better idea. Thanks for watching!
What range were you getting before and what do you get now? I'm interested because I'm using a Huawei E8372 to connect my Navio2/RaspberryPi Flight Controller to my Laptop for Video and Telemetry. Some guys have been using 3/4G Mobile Network but I haven't ventured down that road yet. I am thinking maybe the WiFi extender is better than this router. Or maybe the Huawei with the external antenna/s would be better. Man, that Controller you showed at the start, could it be any bigger? :s
Mark G Hi, so with only using my iPhone and the parrot bebop I could only get about 100 m in the signal would start to cut out. With this Wi-Fi extender I can go about 500 m until the signal starts to cut out. I haven’t really tried other Wi-Fi extenders to see what I could get. Yeah my Skycontroller is the older one and it’s WAY too big! Haha The new sky controller 2 is much smaller but I have not bought one yet. This set up works great for travel because I can put it all in my carry-on bag and Travel easily. Thanks for watching!
can this same thing be done with the AR Drone 2.0?
Hi CA., so I can't say for sure, considering I've never owned an AR Drone 2.0. But, if it uses wifi to connect to your smartphone like the Parrot Bebop 2 does, than I imagine it would work in the same way. This wifi extender does just that, extend a wifi signal. So anything that emits a wifi signal can be amplified with this repeater, for this example: the Parrot Bebop 2. I hope that helps, thanks for watching!
thanks for the response! I ordered one, going to give it a shot
Yeah no problem. Yeah I have another video showing a distance test with this wifi repeater, ua-cam.com/video/lvBkpKs8_SY/v-deo.html I imagine it would be similar for the AR Drone 2.0, but probably with different range results, considering it has different components than the Bebop 2. Good luck with it, happy flying!
How far can you fly the ar drone 2.0 with the range extender?
Hello Ash, any luck using this setup with AR 2.0? For the life of me I can't find anyone online who showed it directly like Jacoby here. Any info would be appreciated, thanks! Cheers!
Hey what is the range with the WIFI Booster?
Hi Mcl Falcon please check the last comment, thanks for watching!
I have one of these when you turn it on and try to connect the wi fi to your phone it will - The problem is the Free flight pro app does not work with it as it does not allow you to Calibrate the Drone Compass I tried to connect the WIFI with it and without it so what should I do ? Troy
Does this setup improve the frames per second? My quad has terrible FPS and I'm looking for a way to improve it, or at least remove the skips and pauses.
Hey Drew, yeah I know how you feel, mine does the same thing. Yes, this setup does "help" the situation, but doesn't completely fix it. Using the Skycontroller will mostly help with that problem. But yes, I have noticed this setup does help give a bit more stability as far as the picture and increases the distance it can go before the signal (picture) starts to skip or pause. Thanks for watching!
Hi just wot I've being looking for as I do have the sky controller which has a good range but soon as I connect a tablet or phone for camera view the range is not very good apparently the WiFi works through the tablet instead of sky controller which defeats the object of having sky controller for long range unless I fly wiv no camera if there's something I'm doing wrong but of info wud be much appreciated as this was a crimbo present for my lads nearly 2 years ago an they haven't bothered wiv it due to this issue thanks
Could you plug the WiFi stick directly into the phone with an adapter. Micro to USB. I have one that came with my galaxy s7
gerald tardif Hi! I’m not sure, thats a good question, I’ve never tried it. It might work though if the phone can give enough power to the Wi-Fi extender for it to power on. Maybe worth a shot! Thanks for watching 👍
Good, as you did to link the mobile to the router and the Bebop 2 ?, because it does not stop throwing me an ERROR (Connection interrupted)
I just followed the instructions that came with the router. Using the Xiaomi app to connect the router to the wifi, then connect the Bebop 2. Maybe you need to refresh the wifi? Sorry I'm not sure what the problem is without seeing it.
What if you use two extenders on the USB Power bank? Will it triple the range?
Haha I've never tried that, it would be interesting to give it a shot!
JacobysJourneys I hope you'll try it. I want to see it in action haha.
Yeah I have two wifi repeaters of different kinds, I can try to connect one to the other and see what happens haha.
Would be awesome! haha
what you would need is a transceiver with 2 antenna's, such as a wifi Router, as you can only pair to one device MAC at once.
is it possible to boost the range of the Sky Controller 2?
Reigate Robot Hey, I'm not sure. I haven't really tried anything to boost its signal. I typically use this mini setup for travel. Thanks for watching!
Higher the Mbps the farther?
Nice video,,,,,,great idea!
Hey thanks a lot Steve, thanks for watching!
It does give range as skycontroller!!! I'm not flying now with my skycontroller 2, but mostly with this Mi extender, in my case version 2, it gives over 2 km with no problem, and even over it, it can do even 2.6 km. Tested on Bebop 2, Hubsan... I've talked with Bebop 1 owner, the same results!
Surely it depends on conditions, as for any radio signal, maximum you get in the fields...
Will it work without using the Mi home app ?
Hey, so I initially set up the Mi wifi router with the Mi home APP the first time i got the extender (almost 2 years ago) and now it all connects automatically every time I turn it and my drone on. I don't open the Mi home app at all.
Wait...the Parrot auto connects to a USB Repeater??? Usually you need to configure a Repeater, how did you do that? Via PC???
Philip Quaglino Hello, so the first time you connect this setup you need to use their APP to pair it with your Parrot. It’s pretty easy. Then after that, it auto connects once you power it on and select the repeaters boosted Wi-Fi signal. Thanks for watching!
The wifi extender doesn't have to be wired to the phone?????
Hi there, no it doesn't need to be. The wifi extender takes the signal from the bebop 2 and amplifies it, creating a new wifi signal. Then, connect your phone to that new signal. It is basically twice as strong as the bebops original signal. It gives me an increased signal and range, and you can see places I've flown in my travel videos. Easily can recommend it for a quick/cheap wifi amplifier! Thanks for watching.
What can I do to fix the problem with my wifi sometimes I see it and sometimes I don't pls help
On iOS it requires the drone Wi-Fi to have a password after the newest update and my drone doesn’t have a password? Do you know how I can get it to work on iOS? Thanks.
Alex Barkey Hi, it’s been a while since I’ve use this drone, but the last time I did I remember there was an option in the menu to set a Wi-Fi password with the drone. So it allows you to make a custom Wi-Fi password. Maybe you could Google search how to do that. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
tried pairing the xiaomi but the thing is it always says that connection timed out do you have any idea to fix this?
Kenneth Robles I'm not sure, I've never had that problem. But I would probably just reset the Xiaomi extender and redo the initial setup to pair it with your Bebop's wifi. But I'm not sure without seeing it in person.
Hello this is Troy how are you I have tried many times to connect this dongle through the mI home app I have even try one of their other apps that does not work also what is the problem why can I not connect this dongle to that the app and to the device
i dont really understand why you would extend the range of the bebop, its not like it can go that far with its battery life anyway, this mod is much more suited for the disco (the fixed wing drone) as this is a much faster drone with much less battery drain on flight
The idea is to strengthen the wifi signal to allow for increased distance and a more reliable wifi signal, to help reduce chance of interference and connection loss. Always a good thing when flying any UAV, in my opinion.
My parrot bebop 2 has a skycontroller 2 and it only flys 600 feet without losing connection pls help
Kayden yap Hi, I'm sorry to hear you've been having problems with your parrot bebop two. Yeah, that's a really short distance for the sky controller, are you sure that when you connect your phone it is going through the sky controller Wi-Fi signal? That sounds like the distance you should be able to get with just using your smart phone and the bebop two before connecting the sky controller. If you're doing it all correct and it still only gets about 600 feet, I would say there is a problem with your Wi-Fi signal. I would recommend contacting parrot and let them know your situation. I hope that helps, thanks for watching and reaching out!
Thx btw how much feet do you get with a skycontroller
With ur skycontroller
Hi Jacob I contacted parrot and they said that they will reply in two days but it has been 5 days and still no answer
Hi ,
How far the SC2 usually transmits ?
What do you mean by "are you sure that when you connect your phone it is going through the sky controller Wi-Fi signal?" how it can be evaluated ?
Thanks
Hi, we bought the Mi Xiomi wifi extender and installed the app Mi Home on our ipad. The extender finds the bebop but states that only WPA/WPA2 encrypted wifi is supported. Asking for wifi password for bebop 2. How do I overcome this? Thanks!
Dani D Hi there, it's been so long since I initially set mine up I'm trying to remember. But I believe what it's saying is you need to first set up a custom secure password on your bebop, because I believe it doesn't have one when you first buy it. So if you set a custom password through the freeflight app first, it should recognize that and you can put that same password in when you set up the Wi-Fi extender. I hope that helps, if not, maybe you can do a google search about this issue and there might be more info online explaining those terms. I'm not really too tech savvy, but i know it has worked for me, and still does now even flying this setup in China. Thanks for watching! Hope it all works well for you!
Thanks so much. We will give it a try and let you know what happens..
Hello Jac, I just bought the wifi extender Xiaomi, but it has arrived with no instructions nor software, so it endless blink jellow.
Can you tell me how I can solve the pairing problem? Thanks
Hi Guido Billybi, here is a link to a step by step instructions on how to connect the Xiaomi Wifi Extender to your Bebop 2 Drone. Hope this helps, thanks for watching! en.miui.com/thread-277241-1-1.html
I did all the instruction given, but it say "connection interrupted" every time it try to connect bebop, at abuot 40%... and, btw, the MI HOME app is somewhat different from the one that i saw on the internet page. Thanks anyway
So I don't know what the problem is, mine never does that. Maybe it's a faulty unit? I'm not sure without seeing it myself. Yeah they have probably updated the App, so it will always be changing. I've used mine for almost a year.
ok, i managed to obtain a blue led on, but is it correct that the repeater generate a second Wi-Fi named like "bebop plus", together the original "bebop" ? if I connect the new Wi-Fi, the bebop seems to work well.
Guido Billybi Yes perfect! The blue light means it's connected! So now connect your phone to the "bebop ----------- PLUS" wifi and you're all set! So after the first time setup you won't need to do all that anymore. Just turn on the bebop, turn on your wifi extender however you power it (mine is with my USB power bank) and then once the bebop and wifi extender are connected the light will turn blue, and you'll see two names in your phones wifi list bebop and bebop Plus. Use the bebop plus and that's the boosted wifi! Hope it works well for you man, happy flying!
Haw can we programe the repeater? Still waiting for the explanation 😩
The Xioami Wifi Extender comes with instructions on how to connect the repeater with your smartphone and the Parrot Bebop 2 Wifi signal (or any wifi signal you want to boost) It is very simple.
JacobysJourneys yah but min didn't come any explanation, and if you make a video showing it you will have a loot of 👍👍👍👍👍
Mine didn't come with instructions either....HELP!
Jimm Jordan Hi, did you purchase it through the link in the description? That's strange, mine came with instructions. Well here's a link to go to with step by step instructions,
www.techmesto.com/setup-mi-wifi-repeater-other-routers/
or I would recommend contacting the seller and ask for the directions. Thanks for watching!
Eduardo Azevedo Hi, if you bought it through my link it should come with instructions, mine did. Otherwise here's a link to instructions www.techmesto.com/setup-mi-wifi-repeater-other-routers/
only bebop 2 or bebop 1 its exactly thx sir
I only own the Bebop 2, so I can't say how well this would work for the Bebop 1. I would imagine it works in the same way. Thanks for watching!
Hey great Video, well, you use a iphone, why not use a mfi controller, I have the mad catz c.t.r.l.i
in red it only costs 30$
In my opinion, it is much easier to fly, even more fun..
Hey Georg, yeah I've seen the Mad Catz CTRLI and it looks pretty cool! So for me personally, I actually enjoy flying using the touch screen with my phones (I use an Iphone 6 plus and an Iphone 5s). But mostly, with my lifestyle and business which is basically always travel and filming, I try to minimize the gear I travel with and have to carry everyday. I only travel with a carry on sized backpack that has all my personal items and filming gear. The Mad Catz controller would be cool, but it would just be one more thing to try and fit in my already small drone bag and another thing to potentially go wrong when flying and filming haha. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Here's the initial procedure in a nutshell
Xiaomi WIFI Repeater Initial Setup
1. Start Mi Home app, click/tap cancel at bottom of page, then click/tap on + sign in upper right corner
2. Plug in the Repeater to the power supply and reset it with a pin
3. Click “Devices Nearby” in the Mi app and it will start to scan for devices
4. Plug in the drone (takes about 10s seconds for its WIFI signature to show up)
5. The Mi Repeater icon should be showing up in the scan after about 10-20 seconds. If not, reset the repeater with the pin again.
6. Click/tap on the Mi Repeater icon once it shows up in the scan and the app will go to the next page and should show the drone. If the drone is highlighted click/tap on “next” and it should connect with the light on the repeater turning blue.
7. Go to the WIFI settings on tablet/phone and select your drone with a “Plus” on the end of the name.
8. Start the drones app, bind the drone and you’re done.
NOTE: You should only have to do this initial setup once. After that, just power on your tablet/phone, plug in the Mi Repeater, plug in the drone, wait 10-20sec, go to your WIFI settings and the drone "plus" should show up, connect, then the light on the repeater should turn blue.
Hi, i have one question, after selecting the "plus" network on phone, i should select that network on the app also correct? thanks
@@jmagosto The drones app should automatically be connected. If not, then yes, select the WIFI network that has the "plus" at the end of it.
Go Ducks!
What model iphone did you use?
